Maybe, but I don't consider the lack of chemistry between Bale and his female co-stars to be a reflection of that. Either way, his take on the playboy persona as a whole just didn't work for me.

It was certainly a very full of himself and smug take on Bruce's front as the Billionaire Playboy.

Yeah, the performance just came across a little forced/artificial to me. It was lacking a certain something.

My only problem with Bale was that, while he excelled in conveying a certain dark charisma as Bruce Wayne, I found him lacking in the more jovial aspects of the character largely encompassed in the playboy persona. Interestingly enough, while people say that Affleck comes across a little forced in his scenes from the BvS trailer (an opinion I personally don't share), that's how I saw Bale in his attempts to depict Wayne as this sort of amiable, jocular figure. Even his relationship with Rachel Dawes, a connection that hadn't been designed to be a feigned performance a la "playboy Bruce", was utterly devoid of chemistry. Two different actresses, and the result was the same.

I think that's largely due to what he was given to work with but I understand what you mean. It's why I'm pretty excited at the aspect of a "social animal" Bruce Wayne in BvS. One who's (hopefully) intellect will be acknowledged as much as his fortune and look is.

I don't think Christian had good chemistry with any of the females and I mean all 4. That says something about him; Anne was rather good and I am one of the fee who enjoyed Katie.
The more I think about it the less impressed I am with Bale as Batman; to me he only owned it in BB and after that he was forgettable.
I still am putting off seeing the BvS trailer but I will admit the clip I've peaked of him holding the little girl seems too forced to me; bit the one of his in the Batcave staring at his suit is much better and more believable.

Couldnt agree more. Bale is a fine actor but aside from Begins, I just couldn't get behind him. Also I myself preferred Holmes over Gylenhall so you're not alone in that. And you haven't watched the entire trailer?! You should, trust me.. 2 trailers in and I still have no idea what the hell is going on. It seems more discreet than the Star Wars trailers.

That's my hope as well. Bruce Wayne is one of DC's most gifted characters; to my knowledge, he has a staggering IQ of 190. Even if the top dogs at WB weren't keen on depicting him as a man with a genius-level intellect this time around, I'd be very surprised -- and frankly disappointed -- if he's portrayed as anything less than a polymath.

Yes, lack of chemistry with a female co-star who is supposed to be the love of your life can't really be blamed on the screenplay unless, of course, you're dealing with amateur filmmakers; and that wasn't the case here. Bale and Maggie G. were noticeably stiff around each other, especially in the scene from TDK where Bruce informs Rachel that he intends to turn himself in.

I'd like to see Bats use his wits to solve problems and outsmart criminals as well. They could maybe have him methodically point out holes in a murder suspect's BS story as an alternative to the GCPD's badgering approach. Who needs a lie detector test when you've got the world's greatest detective on hand?

Indeed. Sheer intelligence aside, this is a trait of the character that has always inspired me and I probably admire the most, and I'd really like to see it depicted in live action:

Indomitable Will: Although he has no superhuman powers, Batman's unstoppable determination and strength of will make him an extremely formidable opponent. This makes him able to function while tolerating massive amounts of physical pain, and also allows him to resist telepathy or mind control. His willpower is strong enough to operate a Green Lantern ring when necessary.

precisely. This is why I wish for the solo Batman film to be a mystery/crime thriller film where Bruce's detective skills could be explored. Mysteries like those of Court of Owls, Batman: Murderer & Fugitive or Batman: Gothic would be where I would draw inspiration from.

And Bale's take on the persona was quite the opposite in my opinion, he was borderline asexual at times.

I completely agree. Sure, he could've had a childhood female friend whom he was very close with, but out of ALL the love interests Bruce had in the comics, why the hell make one up? I never understood why Nolan chose to do this.

Really? Not even with Hathaway? I thought they had great chemistry in TDKR, especially in the ballroom scene. To me, that was one of the better aspects of Selina Kyle - that it seemed way more believable that she and Bruce were attracted to one another way more than he ever was with Rachel, simply because they had better chemistry onscreen. And of course because Kyle was a supremely more interesting character than Dawes.

So he could do whatever he wants with the character without being tied to the comic book lore, I assume. But I'm still not fond of Rachel Dawes.

Did not like the change personally. I didn't think Maggie's acting outweighed Katie's for this particular role to have made this a successful change of actresses.
