I don't understand why people complain about actors using steroids to look good for a role. They put on a wig, makeup, get some help from cgi and lighting.....Oooh they're cool....they use steroids....they ain't really a superhero!!!!!
One pretty major difference is that steroids aren't legal.

thats why the cast of Fast 6 now pops on steroid tests

The Rock has admitted to using steroids in the past (during college), but denied doing so for Pain and Gain, and, given the type of person he's proven himself to be, I firmly believe he would have admitted to doing so if he had.
You have to wonder by looking at him. He looks absolutely monstrous. Can the human body with no external PEDs really become so huge?

I am talking about actors/models/body builders. They are not competing for an Olympic medal. And they do have to train very very very hard. The bigger they get, the harder they have to lift to get results.

Their getting big and ripped isn't causing anyone else to lose something right? In sports it would be wrong.
Aside from that bodybuilders can compete (I guess models etc do it in a certain way too) I was commenting on that using steroids doesn't lessen the achievement. Everything that makes it easier, especially illegal things, lessen achievements.

As for the last question I've already stated that I care less about it when they aren't competing with others. I still find it pathetic but they aren't likely to care what I think.

Guys are definitely using HGH.

It's rampant in sports. A few people get in trouble to act as scapegoats and make an example but it's huge on every level of sports.

So I wouldn't be surprised at an actor using just to look aesthetically pleasing for a movie. Especially in the short amount of time needed to build the physique. No shame in it I guess, gotta do what you gotta do. Not sure why people would expect them to admit it and ruin their reputations as a result though.

Kevin Smith has posted his podcast on smodcast.com which discusses the casting. Not gonna link due to swearing.

Other than the use of them in sports, steroids are legal...

Could he be talking about Tom Hardy? I remember on an interview in the UK he talked about Warrior and TDKR and he said all he did was eat chicken and broccoli....

Tom (given his demeanour) was likely joking. In the Warrior extras you see videos of him and Joel during training and in one of their meal times you can see all the supplements they're taking behind them, whole shelves of creatine, protein, fat burners, probably gonna have ephedrine and more.

I was waiting for this. I bet he's psyched. :woot:

Wait a second, which one is it? I just checked Fatman on Batman, and there isn't anything new. He has a ton of different podcasts on his channel.

The point is, they are taboo.

Don't expect Cavill to admit on national television he took them to get in shape. That's if he took them at all. Just saying.

Since when?

So...are they legal or not? Or is just that they have such a bad rep from sports people using them that many people ASSUME they are illegal?

The article I posted mentioned that he didnt use because of the character he was playing. His trainer is against using:
"The guy who uses steroids and admits to it earns more respect from me than the guy who uses but insists he doesn't and wants his fans to believe he did things the hard way," says elite trainer Mark Twight, an outspoken proponent of a drug-free regimen, who helped turn Man of Steel's Henry Cavill's abdomen into one of the most-talked-about midsections of the year -- a feat that he says was achieved 100 percent naturally."

At least one studio made a conscious effort to keep its leading man squeaky clean. Before Cavill began his grueling five-month preproduction training for Steel, Warner Bros. requested a list of exactly what the training team might ask Cavill to use. Twight gladly complied, given that he believes radical body recomposition can be done naturally when it is guided by experienced trainers and driven by discipline and commitment. For Cavill, Twight recommended only Udo's Oil (a blend of essential fatty acids) and magnesium to aid sleep, the time when growth hormone occurs naturally.
"With Superman, well, that guy better be clean," says Twight. "Because other*wise, it's the kind of thing that turns around and bites your whole marketing campaign in the backside."

I've seen Major League guys lie and lie until the absolute end about using, so I mean.

Starting the Smith podcast though.

I can't find the podcast on the site? What's it titled.

Affleck's physique in The Town was very impressive, but it looked like it could be done without steroids and HGH. I'm pretty sure that Jackman gets his physique using diet and insane work out regimens.

Hollywood babble-on. Latest one.

I normally cant stand Ralph Garman but his opening line killed me. "Last night DC and Warner Brothers announced that they no longer give a **** about the character of Batman."

Same thing had happened years earlier with Michael Keaton, did it not? People petitioned (like they're doing now) and wrote hate mail to the studio in order to have the role recasted.

It didn't work and look what happened, Keaton OWNED the role.
With Keaton prior to Batman he was great in comedies like Night Shift, Beetlejuice and Mr. Mom and got praise for Clean & Sober, what I'm trying to get at is that Keaton is likable and a decent actor.

You don't get that with Ben Affleck, sure he might be a good writer/director but in terms of acting he's pretty 'blah'.

Steroids are legal, they are even legal for athletes. However it is against the rules of professional sports

Steroids are a prescription drug, saying steroids are illegal is like saying Adderall is illegal

Because steroids are a bad health risk and a drug that people can become addicted to, wigs, makeup and CGI aren't. People have died from steroid abuse.
