his first movie after the batman trilogy will be a big test. if its good the guy is going to be on top for at least 5 years.

The news showed up on my facebook and as soon as I saw Damon's photo I instantly thought he had been cast in SvsB :oldrazz:
I haven't kept up with this movie but it sounds pretty interesting and has a great cast.

He already passed "his test" with both the prestige and of course Inception. Nobody is questioning nolan at this point.

I actually wonder how big a success "the prestige" would be had it been released just now? I mean Jackman, Bale and Nolan in one film.

I'm actually wondering if he takes on an established franchise after Interstellar. If you take away Following and Memento (his first two films), there's a pattern:

Non-Batman (Insomnia)
Batman
Non-Batman (The Prestige)
Batman
Non-Batman (Inception)
Batman
Non-Batman (Interstellar)

I could easily imagine him doing Bond for a 2016-17 release.

I don't think he'll be committing to a franchise anytime soon.

He may do a one off Bond some day.

Ths was in a interview with Nolan in the July/August issue of Relavant Magazine.

Q:You mentioned remaking James Bond films as a kid.Would you do a Bond film at this point?
A:I'd love to at some point. But the truth is,I've been busy ripping them off.

Q:What films do you have left to make?
A:The favorite script of mine i've written is about Howard Hughes, but I never had the time to make it.

Whoa, July/August of this year?

I thought he abandoned the Hughes project. Now he's wanting to do it again? :wow:

Considering that he incorporated some Hughes' elements in TDKR, he probably is letting go of that project.

Right, but the question is, What films do you have left to make?, in which his answer is that he has the Hughes movie left to make.

If he truly thinks it's the best thing he himself has written (better than Inception, Memento, The Prestige, etc.), I can't imagine him not making it. That movie will be made, it just might not be after Interstellar.

Yes this year. He also teases Interstellar."I always wanted to do a sc-fi film, and so far I guess Inception is halfway there. It would be fun to explore at some point".
The interview is on the website.

Wow he is going full on sci-fi with Interstellar it seems.

Jason Bourne. In space. Buckle up.

What a cast.

We did get the movie. It was the called The Aviator. :o

No...

Nolan's film would have been all about the recluse and crazy Howard, basically being a psychological drama.

While Scorsese's, was a pretty bio pic.

Not really, he's a lot less versatile. And in terms of clout, still not really.

When Nolan can do a non-dark film, that will be the test. The question remains if he'll want to though. He's in Kubrick-lite territory now.

Spielberg and Cameron are probably the two directors who can do whatever they want, they're that powerful. Nolan isn't on that lever YET. So, McConaughey, Hathaway, Chastain, Lithgow, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman (I think), and now Damon, damn.

Personally I don't want Nolan to be another Spielberg. Spielberg can continue being Spielberg and Nolan can continue being Nolan.

Nolan has already made a mark on the industry though, he single handedly sucked all of the fun and wonder out of a lot genre films so that's a big accomplishment.

I love Nolan's films so I don't 100% mean that disparagingly, I just have a habit of not sugarcoating the truth about filmmakers.

Yes, Inception was the first dark Sci-fi film ever, except for Alien 1-4, Predator 1 and 2, Blade Runner, District 9, Event Horizon, Total Recall, etc. How dare Nolan make Batman a dark and serious character, like he has been in the comics for twenty years. Sorry, Nolan didn't suck the fun out of anything.
