C. Nolan's Interstellar - Part 2

That's the one movie that makes me fear for Marvel a little. That could be the one where maybe they don't drop the ball per say, but it's the first sign of trouble down the road. Are they supposed to be connecting that to The Avengers universe?

I'm a little concerned for Thor 2 and Cap 2 as well. I don't think we'll get a Part 3 for either of those.

I don't think we will get a part 3 either but that's because neither Chris wants to be there anymore. Evans has definitely showed quite hesitation at coming back to this franchise constantly and rumors say that Hemsworth has been fighting with Marvel which is very possible, looking at how they do business.

What makes you think that? The first films of those characters already made profits, now with the Avengers boost their second installments are all but financially secure, and if they are able to turn a profit once more, which they most definitely will, why wouldn't they have their third movies?

I just don't see this Avengers train trucking along for much longer. I'd love for it to, but I feel like Iron Man 3 was a sign of people saying, "Well, okay, that was fun." *shrug* It made a billion, but does that mean it's universally loved, or does it mean it made a billion dollars? Do people really want more solo films, or do they just want The Avengers 2? I feel like it's getting dangerously close to them just throwing stuff at our faces against our will, and we as an audience will reject it. It'll be one of those cases where a new trailer is being shown in the theater and you hear someone say "Christ, another one?"

^ I could be wrong, and I'd like to be.

We're already hitting 11 movies by 2015, and a freakin' TV show. I realize comics provide infinite stories, but comics also cleverly tell the same stories over and over again. That's the whole point. The Joker, for example, won't just win. He gets locked up and escapes again. Can you do that with 20 movies? 25 movies? I don't know.

Green Lantern was directed by the wrong director. Campbell is a very capable studio director who specializes in old school stunt driven action films. Yet they gave him exactly the kind of movie he doesn't know the first thing how to make.

Yeah, Campbell was a very odd choice. They needed someone like Guillermo Del Toro, someone who's a massive nerd who carries a sense of humor in their work... and who gets the character.

Superman Returns was also another movie where the director had a lot of creative control. So there's that too.

I still to this day can't figure out what happened with this movie. It's so boring and just empty. Singer is such a great director, and he could whatever he wanted, and it was still a disaster. Why didn't this happen with X-Men or X2? And I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that it was "Donner's Superman III" with the John Williams score for nostalgia's sake... That concept could've been handled beautifully. The story and execution is just yawn-inducing. There's no adrenaline or anything that makes you fist-pump and go "Yeah!"

Well, the fact that it made a billion dollars should tip you off to the answer to that question. And no film can be universally loved. It just needs to be mostly liked, enough to turn a profit, and the BO of Iron man 3 guarantees that it does and far more.

Iron Man 3 surprised me how restrained it was at keeping it self contained and character driven. The film was the most isolated and personal film in the MCU since the first Iron Man, and that is a very good sign. especially if the precedent is set for Cap and Thor 2 to be this self contained as well.

See, this is my point.

Does it feel like we'll be getting an Iron Man 4? I feel like the answer's no. And if there's no Iron Man 4, no Cap 3, no Thor 3 . . . what's left?

I think we'll see the series come to a close with Avengers 2. After that, we're talking about recasting everyone, and at that point you're talking about a reboot, which takes the whole thing back to square one.

Just look at it like this: Can you honestly see Scarlet Johansson or Samuel L. Jackson doing five more of these movies, let alone three?

I'm just thinking worst-case scenario here. If it were up to me, there'd be 50 movies, but it's impossible.

I doubt there will be a series wide recast after Avengers 2, considering Phase 3 is currently being assembled (with Thanos being the head villain in TA3.)

Well with Marvel Studios, I don't know where they'll be at 10 years from now. I think inherently, their existence and system of business is just..limited.

You know you're talking about Disney here right?

Maybe just Iron Man and the Avengers could possibly be construed as "universally loved" and only a few have done really well with critics.

And while all the films are linked, is the sheer amount of the films really any different than before when we had arguably even more superhero films coming out each year?

If the marvel films start failing pretty bad, it won't be a rejection of just those films but likely of the genre.

And most comic films literally do just tell the same damn stories.

Well, I just hate how it's hailed as terrible when it wasn't. It wasn't awful - it just wasn't amazing. The internet is obsessed with this mentality that something is either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. Nothing can be, "Yeah, I found it to be quite fair." I respect and admire that fans demand high quality, but don't call something terrible or say it's the "worst comic book movie ever", when it is nowhere near the level of Catwoman, or Batman & Robin, or Jonah Hex, or Elektra, or half of the actual crap out there.

I thought Green Lantern was better than Iron Man 2. There, I said it. And Iron Man is like, the hottest franchise in the world right now.

Your opinion. People didn't fault it for being not great. The faulted it for being quite off putting in many regards.

Interstellar or a bunch of rubbish? Hmm? I wonder which one I'd pick.

Well done - just how I like my steak.

So was that leaked draft of Interstellar real? or a fake?

Yeah..To be honest, WB didn't lose a lot.

Depends on how much choice Paramount gets on the "A list" WB project in the future. Would that include something like the Man of Steel sequel, a Batman movie, etc.? Hard to imagine WB agreeing to give up half the profit on those movies.

Christopher Nolan Recruits 'Rachel Getting Married' Star Bill Irwin for 'Interstellar'

Veteran character actor Bill Irwin is set to reteam with his "Rachel Getting Married" co-star Anne Hathaway on Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar," TheWrap has learned.

Paramount did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A co-production between Paramount and Warner Bros., "Interstellar" stars Matthew McConaughey, Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Nolan favorite Michael Caine, who previously worked with the director on "Inception," "The Prestige" and the "Dark Knight" trilogy.

Story follows a heroic group of explorers who travel through a wormhole and into another dimension.
Like the other actors, details of Irwin's role are being kept under wraps, as Nolan is famously secretive.

Jonah Nolan wrote the original script, which has since been merged with one of Nolan's original sci-fi ideas. The director is also producing with Emma Thomas and Lynda Obst, while Jordan Goldberg will exec produce with Caltech physicist Kip Thorne, who serves as a technical consultant on the project.

Irwin recently starred on TNT's "Monday Mornings" and was last seen on the big screen in Vera Farmiga's directorial debut "Higher Ground." His other feature credits include "Across the Universe," "Lady in the Water," "The Manchurian Candidate" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." His supporting performance as Hathaway's father in Jonathan Demme's "Rachel Getting Married" earned recognition from the Chicago Film Critics Association.

Irwin is repped by Innovative Artists and Viking Entertainment.

'Rachel Getting Married' Star? More like 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas' Star! :whatever:

For those who read the script...

...who do you think he'll be playing?

........ you sure about that?

Welcome back Bill.

It would be great if he'd play Hathaway's dad again. :woot:
Dad, I'm going into space. Deal with it!
