The Winter Soldier Captain America 2: News and Speculation - - - - - - Part 19

ok really nitpicking here..but i would love to see steve visit peggy for the first time! that should be in the movie!!!!. i wanna see the reaction from both of them.

That was, in a way, sort of the point of the scene.

It was like the first time they met, but in reverse order….

'Scuse me. It's a little dusty in here… *SNIFF SNIFF*

I'm already dehydrated from Chris and Hayley's acting in that scene, that I'm pretty sure watching Steve react to Peggy's condition when he actually finds out would just kill me…. /dramatics

The film was set two years after he was recovered. We wouldn't be able to see Steve visit her for the first time except as a flashback since there's no way he'd take 2 years to visit his best girl. Instead we got what her first time reaction would be like when she slipped into dementia and thought she was seeing him again for the first time. Knowing this is a scenario that plays over and over again as Steve visits her makes it even more poignant and heart rending. :csad:

The worst part must have been finding out his sacrifice was worth nothing. In Steve's mind, he must have been thinking "Yeah, I lost my entire life, but at least I stopped HYDRA." Only to find out that not only he didn't, but that they were now stronger than ever.

Also, I originally took issue with the Steve/Peggy scene not being longer, but then someone pointed out to me that she had dementia, which I didn't pick up on before. The length makes perfect sense then .

Well, he didn't crash the plane to stop HYDRA as a whole, just RS's plan to blow up a large number of cities. I don't think he'd see it as a sacrifice worth nothing. He saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

Yeah but RS was the foundation and root of HYDRA at that time. And maybe he wouldn't necessarily see it as nothing, but it does reveal the threat he thought he put an end to through his sacrifice is still around.

Here's a question:

Do we believe Steve when he said that wasn't his first kiss since 1945?

Black Widow said he's a terrible liar though. I wonder if she just didn't want to pick on him more because she never said anything to indicate "********" when he said that. But when he did, that's the first thing I thought.

Even scrawny runts like pre-SSS Steve Rogers get laid. A big strapping super-soldier spending most of the early part of WWII touring in USO shows with hot dancers is probably getting laid. Soldiers, both super- and not-so-super, spent a good deal of time in WWII getting laid by prostitutes (the ubiquitous "camp followers" from antiquity onward), nurses, and local women. After The Avengers, Cap has had two years to sleep with as many women as he wanted.

"The 90-Year Old Virgin" is just a myth for those who, for some reason, want to cling to the notion that Steve Rogers is a walking model for abstinence or monkhood.

Does no one remembers that blonde during the USO tour that looked like she was ready to give it up right then and there as she asked for his autograph? There's no way he went that whole tour without buckling.

Or because we think it's HILARIOUS that a guy that looks like Steve Rogers and acts like Cap still has his V-card :cwink:

Nah, I actually have headcanon that Bucky hired a pro to help him out when he was just a skinny little guy. But he did say he didn't speak to women at all when he was small guy (in the car with Peggy going to the underground bunker for the SSS experiment).

there was no follow-up to that scene.. did she end up as one of the dancing girls?

During the montage, it shows her flirting with Cap, then cutting to the big finale in New York. I imagine that she's just one of the audiences awestruck by Cap.

I kind of doubt that Rogers slept with women back in WWII, because that one time he got kissed Carter caught him, and I don't think he was willing to do it again. But it is hard to believe that he could stay a virgin, especially when some many women who probably tried to get him in the sack.

I just got back from my second showing and I nearly teared up during those scenes. Peggy forgetting Steve(especially that line about his last dance :csad:) and when Steve recognises the winter soldier but the winter soldier doesn't even recognise himself

???
He was double-dating a chick with Bucky at the exposition where he got 4-Fed by the army. Granted, he was giving her the cold shoulder and was clearly a lot more interested in signing up for the war than in getting with the girl, but it clearly shows that he wasn't shy or uncomfortable or inexperienced with dating women.

He told Peggy that their conversation in the car was the longest he'd ever had with a woman… and that women weren't exactly lining up to dance with someone who looked like him. In fact, one dynamic in his relationship with Peggy Carter was that he didn't know a bloody thing about women. Fondue? Remember that?

From the sounds of it Bucky forced Steve to go on these double dates. And the girls ignored him in favor of Bucky. Steve was pretty inexperienced when it came to talking to women. There's nothing wrong with that, but I think it's okay to extrapolate from the evidence of the first film that dating wasn't something he did because of lack of opportunity.

Yeah i think his lady issues were mostly due to him being visually undesirable and therefore not having many opportunities.
