Chapter 11: "Powerless" discussion thread 12/03

The most shocking thing about this episode for me wasn't even the ending, but it was what Hiro did to Adam. That was freaking sick.

This is just like the hooded killer thing.

It is most likely a stand-in for now unless they already have the twist planned ahead. Or even if they had the twist like the Adam Monroe thing. So just looking may not be the be-all-end-all answer in this case.

Actually the hooded killer was always David Anders. People brightened up the original image and you could see his face.

I do think it was Bennet that shot Nathan. In order to protect Claire, he had to rejoin the Company, and his first assignment was shooting Nathan. Ma Petrelli was most certainly in on it, though.

and let that be a lesson to any other seemingly unbeatable baddies out there: don't **** with Hiro's family!

I am with Katsuro on this, the figure walking away as everyone else rushed forward was in black pants and a black jacket...in my mind, had to be Noah.......

HRG shot Nathan. Reasons:
- He was forced to join the Company again in order to keep his family safe.
- He tried to convince Claire to NOT expose their secrets.
- The Company didn't want the secrets exposed to everyone.
- The Company sent HRG to assassinate Nathan because they do not want the secrets exposed.

Anyone else agree? Disagree? More reasons?

AND

Perhaps the funniest moment in Heroes:

- Peter zapping Hiro through his sword: $30
- Nikki burnt to a crisp in a fire explosion: $170
- Matt riding Nathan: Priceless

"Easy! Easy!! Whoa, whoa! Let's not tell anyone about this. Ever." LMFAO:woot:

I sincerely doubt it. I remember when we were all hailing Nathan, Peter, Ando, Elle, West the hooded killer. Look how that came to be. HRG isn't the killer.

Are you even serious? How can it not be HRG? All the info is all right there layed neatly out for us to look at.

And I don't remember, nor do I understand how someone could think Ando or Elle pushed Kaito off the roof. Especially Ando. You do remember he watched as Adam came running at Kaito and pushed him off, right?

My useless thoughts and ponderings on the latest installment.

Overall, as it compares to the rest of the season, this was a good episode...but seeing as how that's compared to the rest of the season, it's probably not saying much. Some of the inconsistencies bothered me...the writing needs to tighten up. Certain things like why Hiro didn't freeze time when he faced Adam or why Peter didn't use his blood on Nathan could've been explained. It seems so many people who aren't familiar with comics or "comic book logic" simply don't get it. I informed my friend that comic book logic dictates that the reader/watcher has to form their own theories about why certain obvious things didn't happen. Normal non-geek humans don't have the imagination that is ingrained in comic fanboys and girls. All it takes is having Adam say...

[English accent]Your powers won't work on me Hiro...Pe-tah is using your own pow-ah to keep time flowing[/English accent]

...just like how Peter was the only one unaffected by Hiro's earlier freeze. As for the blood? They should've asserted earlier in the season that Peter doesn't have enough control over his power to have the magic blood...even a halfass explanation is better than no explanation at all. The writing needs to tighten up. Another thing that bothered me was how Mo's candy @$$ didn't drop kick Sylar after Sylar put his gun down...Bueller. U have this dude harmless and with a needle jammed in his arm...try pushing the needle all the way through or at least grabbing his gun, or try raising his voice a few octaves. They could've at least had Sylar continue to hold the gun to Mo's head while the blood was drawn. Again, sloppy.

This is my show though, so I continue to rock my rose-colored glasses in hopes that Kring will tighten up the reigns and bring this bad boy back on the right track.

Mama Petrelli...love that woman. This show needs characters like her. She's grimey, straight up evil, and I'd love to punch her in her throat...great stuff! Adam isn't half the villain she is. I love how they reasserted this aspect of her character, first with how she told Matt how to off Peter and then how she was all business about Nathan.

Niki. I almost feel bad about wishing death upon u all season long. I loved the way she took out the thug...I hope Monica was watching so she can replicate the killer technique on Niki's nut crunch the next time she's jumped by a bunch of thugs while playing Spider-Man. The writing was on the wall with her death...especially with how she was so anti-Hero all season long. Can't say I'm all that sad to see her go though...her character stopped being interesting when she stopped being nuts.

Overall, I'm just really disappointed with how they continued to completely disjoint Niki's storyline with Monica and Micah from the main plot. At least last season, the finale showed all the pieces come together...Monica and Micah still have no idea that everyone else was somewhere saving the world...they're gonna feel reeeaaaalll dumb when they try and gloat during the next reunion..."so what if u saved the world, we failed in getting back the priceless comic and the medal...u got served!" But in all seriousness, all these characters don't have to be all together for the plot to flow through all of them...just look at how Mo, Maya and Elle weren't in Odessa with the others...regardless, it still felt like the characters were in the gumbo...the stuff with Niki, Mon, and Micah was just happening on another planet. Sylar + Adam > random thug.

Elle was great...if Kring knows what's good, he'll shower Kristen Bell with bribes and huge amounts of money to appear in every episode next season. I have to admit that I was a little worried when I saw her take off in an effort to make her "Daddy of the Year" proud...but I figured she'd be ok through some spoilerage (smacks hand). I think she's on the side of the angels now...she was loving the positive reinforcement for saving the day. Maybe she can teach Maya how not to suck since the episode ended with them in the same group.

Speaking of Maya...I love you like my porn collection, Dania...but I hope you'll be more intelligent in your 2nd life. It only took u all volume to figure out the guy u were cooking bacon and eggs for was a deranged psycho killer...please consult me the next time u pick a boyfriend...matter fact, make me your next boyfriend...I've never killed anyone.

Hiro's ownage of Adam was tight. I admit that I never thought for a second to bury him alive...(look away from the computer now, Dania) and I pride myself on my sick and twisted ways of thinking. It must really be freakin' boring to be buried alive when u can't die. Hope Hiro at least gave him a Rubix cube or a Gameboy loaded with Tetris. I thought Adam's villain status was lame this season...felt like he was only a villain because we were told he was. They never gave him the characterization that they did Sylar in s1. I wouldn't be sad if Adam was down there forever...there are better villains to create. Which brings me to Nathan.

They might as well have set up a noose on that podium, because who didn't see that coming? Nathan was severly underutilized this season...so they make up for it by giving him the honor of the volume cliffhanger...being killed. I hear rumors he's coming back a little older, so if that's the case, I look forward to seeing him back as a certain other character. Liked the Popeye reference at the end of this episode too.

All in all, lackluster season...it showed flashes. I still enjoyed it though...just hoped for a lot more. Here's hoping next volume returns the show to glory. And the Pats need not ever be scheduled for a Monday night football game during a volume finale again...how am I supposed to enjoy an episode of Heroes amidst the strokes induced by a game that was just too damn close to exist.

You do realize that the episode ended mere minutes after Nathan was shot, right? In all the chaos, you really expected Peter to have a hypodermic needle at the ready to inject Nathan?

And as for why Hiro didn't freeze Adam, well... he didn't need to. Hiro took care of the situation just fine on his own once Peter was out of there.

Hiro handled the situation, but don't you think it was a little too close for comfort? The standoff could've been avoided. I do believe Hiro had a sword to his throat. And the question was asked of me by someone "why didn't he just freeze time?" Which goes back to my point...people are smart. They think about these things. It would be in Kring's best interest to try to explain why certain things don't happen.

As for Nathan, you got me...but what would be the point in them assassinating Nathan if they knew Peter could just revive him? Again, the blood issue is a huge plot hole and it needs to be addressed. Again, people are smart and will start to question how anyone really dies on here and start to feel like there's never any sense of urgency because Peter or Claire can just slit a wrist and turn everyone into Jean Greys.

I love the show. I only want it to be better.

Yes. It was a lame example. But I've heard on a few a forum people talking about Ando and a twin (yes, I know). Anyway, the information was laid out for us with West and someone even went as far to photoshop the head of West onto the Hooded Killers head. (And it even passed for a while).

I dont think the standoff needed to be avoided. Hiro had things he needed to say to Adam. Besides, how boring would it be if Hiro just froze time and killed him, with no final confronation?

And i thought your point was that people aren't smart? You were saying that long-time comic readers know how to fill in the gaps whereas the average viewer needs things explained step by step. Hell, i thought it was hilarious that in the Four Months Ago episode they had to have Peter straight up yell "i cant fly on my own because i'm using all my power not to explode", since that's the thing people kept asking about after last season.

No, no...I meant non-comic readers weren't as imaginative or know their way around superhuman stuff. They're smart in that they ask the obvious questions. I just think there are certain things that came into play this volume that need some fleshing out. Leaving people with some questions, I admit, is good...for example, does Sylar really eat the brains of people? But some things need to be fleshed out...and my POV is that this is simple to do. All Kring has to do is make his own rules...time limits before a dead body can be revived, why Hiro can't just freeze time and diffuse any and all situations, etc. It's my opinion that Heroes is potentially toeing a dangerous line by making some of their characters too powerful. It's why characters like Monica are great...her powers work for this type of show. Claire, Peter (his healing, anyway) and Adam even work now that they're not completely invincible to death. I just think Heroes lore needs to be streamlined...reign in some of these really big ideas with some level of reason.

Good ending to a lackluster "Volume" and although there were some things I was expecting, I got to say it probably was a good thing to have those rewrites at the end because it was a great set-up for the next Volume.

Couple of things:

--I seriously doubt HRG killed Nathan but rather it was another guy. It's not as if HRG was the only assassin the Company has employed, after all. And remember, just because Peter has the same healing powers as Claire, and possibly Adam, it doesn't mean that he knows that his own blood can heal people. And even if he does know, he probably only assumes that the regenerative blood can only heal someone while they're still alive and not when they're dead not realizing that it can.
--As for Hiro burying Adam alive--yeah, it was pretty harsh, but in a way, it actually is poetic justice. After all, what better way to punish someone who can't actually die? At best, Adam would suffocate from Oxygen depravation, but in his case it would be a "living death," the only cure being getting into the open air once he is exhumed or manages to dig his way out (I mean he's definitely coming back). And if you wonder why Hiro would even do something like this? Remember his father was killed by Adam and that would make him somewhat hardened. Not unlike Future Hiro, actually.
--Yeah, Niki's went out pretty cheap, but it was at least better than the send-off D.L. got. She at least died saving someone's life. And I'm betting Micah is going to be guilt-ridden and bitter, with Monica acting as someone to keep him from becoming too dark, sort like a Batman and Robin pairing, but in reverse.
--Too bad Maya is still alive, but hopefully she'll get a brain next volume along with Mohindir a.k.a MohinDUH!. In a way, I can see what their story is going to be, in that Mohindir is going to try and find a way to take Maya's powers away with a modified Shanti virus that doesn't kill her and that a romance develops between the two. After all, why shouldn't two of the most incompetent characters in the series hook up? Both of their brains would equal the brain of an average person, right?:woot:
--And glad to see Sylar got his powers back. Considering how the next Volume is "Villains," I'm wondering if they'll have Sylar team-up with Adam. Or maybe we'll find out just who in the Company wanted to keep Sylar alive in the first place? The same person Angela was talking to perhaps and who ordered the assassination on her own son?
--It also looks like there's the potential for plenty of conflict for next volume as well. I'm sure Angela was referring to Peter as the "Pandora's Box" and is going to be going after anybody connected to the Company, which leads to a rematch between himself and Elle. Then you got Sylar on the loose, and it would be interesting if he winds up in New Orleans and goes after Monica after reading about "St. Joan sightings" in newspapers. You've got HRG and Mohindir forced to work together within the Company, not to mention creating friction between Elle and her dad. And if Claire has now been brought into the Company, does that make her an Agent of the Company now? So what if they decide to have her go after West? (About time those two had a falling out after the dopey teenage romance that dominated way too much of the Season).

I'm really sorry for Adam guys. I mean, it's because of Hiro that Adam turned out this way............ Hiro stole his girl, and he shouldn't have, especially when Hiro was not going to stick around during that time. So, Adam became evil because of Hiro

It's like Batman and the Joker, Joker became the Joker because of Batman, but Batman will never kill Joker , not even BURY THE JOKER ALIVE DEEP IN THE GROUND.

What Hiro did was pure revenge

Not really revenge of the sick kind when the guy you bury doesnt need anything to remain alive indefinitely. Course, when he finally tunnels his way out (he can keep smashing his fist until the wood breaks cos he'll keep healing his knuckles) he's going to be even more insane.

Nathan dying sucks. I almost hope that that was the original intended ending, and not the one brought on by the writer's strike (christ studio owners - give them their shagging money!), because to wipe out a guy who was just starting to be come the leader he has always wanted to be but in the noblest way is just injust.

Aquaman is a badass, and if you think otherwise you fail at life.

not as bad as your mom and dad do.

Why didn't mohinder just inject SYlar with the virus and kill him without his knowledge?

I like this show but this flip-flopping with Mohinder being able to shoot someone in the face and THEN not being able to do what is necessary all of a sudden is seemingly bad writing.

Hiro has failed me. he should have removed Adams head.

and what is up with the Mystical things going on with the Kensei symbol?

does anyone know if its explained in the graphic novels?

You do realize that the episode ended mere minutes after Nathan was shot, right? In all the chaos, you really expected Peter to have a hypodermic needle at the ready to inject Nathan?
well...as far as Peter knows, Adam's blood is the only means of healing someone else, and particularly Nathan. Peter could teleport Nathan to Adam, but Adam's out of the picture, and Peter doesn't know that Claire's blood has the same properties.

anybody else feel sorry for this our poor chap Adam?

I wouldn't count Niki and Nathan out just yet. It was never actually said that they died. We can presume they did, but we'll have to wait til next season to be sure.

Im suprised no one has screen capped the assasin walking away from the scene. I was watching on HD with a 42'' but couldn't really tell who it was. What I can say is that the assasin HAD very dark/black hair and was not wearing glasses from what I could see.

Im really starting to like the character of MICAH, so far he seems the most comfortable with his powers and he doesn't hold back on using it for good. Hopefully we will see more of him
