The Mandalorian Chapter 24 Spoiler Discussion

I was honestly kind of dreading watching this finale this morning after the last episode, but I have to admit while my issues with the season as a whole still stand this was a great finale IMO.

Dinn and Grogu finally got their time to shine, and I loved seeing Dinn be a badass again like he was in Mando Season 1, especially during those all those hand to hand/close combat fights.

Moff Gideon in that three-way battle with Bo, Dinn and Grogu was pretty EPIC too as well as just seeing all the Mandos flying and fighting together which gave this episode a nice sense of scope.

The writing and structure of this season is still a major problem that I hope they are able to fix going forward so that this show returns to the quality of the first two seasons, but I was mostly satisfied with the ending.

Rick Famuyiwa direction really elevated his episodes throughout this season and while I have my issues with certain elements its all the more apparent to me that this guy definitely deserves his own Star Wars movie.

Yeah, keep s4 of Mando more episodic.

...give Bo & The Tribe a show around mid-rebuild of Mandalore, maybe 5-10 years into the future.

Tap into Andor political vibes while also letting it have action here and there.

Think;

Postman
Waterworld
Mad Max
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
City Of God
> The Leftovers
Do The Right Thing
In Bruges
The Apartment
> Station Eleven
Munich
The Candidate
Yep.

Bo is getting big now and needs her story told in her own show with the other Mandalorians and while this show can have regular cross over, it should focus again on Din and Grogu's adventures (and Grogu's development FFS lol). I think Boba Fett should have been shorter and could have been an effective show with fewer episodes and leaving the massive Din diversion for this show where it would have helped shore up and give structure to the early episodes. I want that rebuild of Mandalore and strong Mandalorian future you mention, and also to see some of the baddie Mandalorians for them to have conflicts with.

I liked the finale for what it was. Rick Famuyiwa has a talent for directing action sequences. I was surprised there was no mid credits tease for anything coming up, whether for Mando or an Ahsoka tease.

Me when the Praetorians started going after Grogu:

And was Grogu eating popcorn chicken when they stopped off at the bar in the end?

Yeah, glad Rick came in to get the quality back up.

Moff looked a bit more interested this episode too. He can be a great villain when he's up for it.

Also, as much as I did love the finale for the most part its still crazy to me that all the best Mando episodes were in Boba Fett and the best Boba Fett episodes were in Mando which I know others have stated as well.

Given how high quality those episodes were compared to the rest of that show and the top notch sfx/production design quality of this season it at least would have felt a lot more consistent IMO. No idea whose idea that was, but that's definitely something that needs be addressed going forward.

Are we to assume that was IG-88 at the Republic Bar?

It's funny how much better this scene's scale and juxtaposition between the 3 way fight and the Mando/Supercommando air battle compared to Finn's attack and the Star Destroyer fight.

I’m glad to see an IG operational again going forward. IG was one of the big differentiators that set season 1 apart and a shame he couldn't have hung around longer.

Din has his pad through Greef for off season lol. This show is doing a good job of deepening SW lore but needs to get back to Din and Grogu as primary focus from next season and give Bo (who's awesome) and the others a separate show.

Me looking at all the shiny bad guy armor for the past two episodes.

I mentioned last episode that the IG-Grogu-Mech - YES/NO feels like it was made purely for me to lose money on buying. :D

Regardless of execution, I love Mandalorians in general in SW and if they can make money through other avenues (maybe even skins in games), then I guess more chance that they push this side of the SW universe more.

I have to say I’m slightly underwhelmed by this finale, ONLY because I let Eric Voss, the ScreenCrush guy and various other YouTubers suck me down a speculation rabbit hole about who the “other” spy is. And guess what? NO ONE! Not the Armorer, not Axe, not the guy from Top Gun, not Fury Road Skinny Pete. None of them! Who knew that pluralizing a word in a title for no apparent reason could cause such fan chaos? Lol.

That said, the episode was a blast (literally). Loved Din taking out all of the Gideon’s guards, then facing off with Darth Iron Man himself, and then the Praetorian Guards. Loved Bo Karan leading the charge with the Darksaber and then facing off with Gideon herself. Axe crashing the Star Destoyer was badass, though I feel it would have felt a little more impactful (no pun intended) if he had sacrificed himself. Still, great redemption for him.

Also, Gideon ain’t dead. I know we saw him get hit by a fireball but he was wearing souped-up, nigh indestructible armor, fully equipped with rocket boosters. This is a universe where a guy survived after he was LITERALLY CUT IN HALF. Gideon’s coming back. Plus, we already saw that he cloned himself. I know he indicated that Din wiped them all out but I wouldn’t bet on that.

But honestly, I’m good with that. More Gideon is a good thing. This season has kinda been hit or miss for me throughout but once Gideon showed up, it really kicked into high gear. Giancarlo is just such a great actor that he elevates anything whenever he is onscreen. So I look forward to his return.

I'll agree this was a bit of an underwhelming finale, but still enjoyable. Felt like a mini "A New Hope", or just the 3rd Act. I think this season was hampered by the Rangers show being canned, and directing this all to work with Ahsoka and the film.

As for the whole "Spies" talk, sometimes in the world of SW, Marvel, etc...there is nothing deep and speculation is pointless, take what you see at face value and enjoy. Though the whatifs could have been entertaining and perhaps have better/more interesting payoffs for sure. Alas.

Yeah, I usually don’t look for deeper meanings in Star Wars stuff and I really didn’t give the “Spies” title much thought last week until I watched a New Rockstars video and got sucked into all the theories. I should have known better! Haha

So that rumor of Kevin McKidd appearing as Fenn Rau on this season turned out to be false.

I assume Gideon was lying about those being all the clones. If Gideon had won the fight, the lie wouldn't matter, whereas losing the fight left his enemies with wrong information.

Gideon, who values his own power, doesn't seem like the kind of person who would create improved versions (ie, rivals) of himself. The clones must have been limited in some way so that he could maintain control. I'm guessing that the real Gideon is still out there, and that he'd been teleoperating his clones via the Force as extensions of himself all this time.

That four-note refrain in the theme, which we usually hear played by a flute, sounds a lot like the Klingon theme during this episode's title card.

While this season hasn't matched the first two, I must admit I loved this finale. So many epic moments like the Mando's jet pack sparring with Imperial troops, lead by a Darksaber wielding Bo Katan. The Star Destroyer being crashed into the base. Din and Grogu Vs Praetorian guards and then if course Bo Vs Moff with help from Din and Grogu.

The imagery and direction were spot on, and we got bad ass Din back. I only part I didn't like was the Darksaber being crushed. But we got the re-igniting of the forge and another siting of the Mythosaur in exchange. I loved how it ended also with Din and Grogu going on adventures again. Yep, thoroughly enjoyed this finale.
