Chapter 38- “I Am Become Death” – Discussion Thread 10/6/08

Matt had his power before he was taken by the company. And im guessing the heroes who were given their powers, Sylar wouldnt be able to take them since it isnt activated by the brain like people with original powers.

Wrong. Sylar stole Nathan's flight in the first season... oh wait, that good season didn't happen according to the writers. :whatever:

I remember opposite:huh: I may be wrong but I could swear that was the reason he connected with Ted so much. They both talked about their lives becoming messed up after this incident that they didn't remember what happened to them. Matt was abducted before Season 1...we never saw him being abducted.
yes he was...there was a whole scene of him lying on a medical table with the hatian and noah...he was then dropped off home on his couch and could not remember how he got there or where he was before hand

Maybe they were giving him the isotopes to track him then:huh:

Why would the powers that were artificially given to these people work any differently then powers that manifest normally? Lets use common sense here.

The brain and the body still have to integrate the powers to make them work.

I just thought of something, how did claire shoot Sylar if he has the power of basically Luke Cage, or is that scene non-canon?

That scene isn't canon, but was just a deleted scene from season two.

Matt was also capture by HRG and the Haitian after running into Sylar...which the company was looking for feverently. Maybe they did just use a tracking device hoping to catch up to Sylar???

What is also odd is the time these people figure out they have powers. Why does Molly use hers at such a young age and people like Hiro, Nathan, Sylar, Tracy just all of a sudden figure out they have powers? I know Claire had powers from birth and HRG just hid them from her...keeping her out of situations like that.

Well I thought that might be the case but wasnt sure. Oh and since Matts dad was one of the original 12 he could technically be artifical, its possible.

most peoples powers did not start working until the eclipse happened in season one

The same reason the people in the Marvel universe don't find out they have powers until certain times in their life. There are triggers that activate them. Molly's powers were triggered earlier in her life then the others.

I wonder what the eclipse has to do with their powers...hmmmm. Wasn't their an eclipse in Season 2 with Adam?

But we found out that trigger is adrenaline. And in the Marvel Universe...particularly X-Men...they got their powers in their teenage years or later.

yes...they said they were gonna explain it and why the godsend symbol shows up on people but so far they havent

Riiiiight, so in times where there is high adrenaline moving through the body, the powers are more prone to being activated.

And we know the following
that there is going to be another eclipse this season that will cause peoples powers to start to go haywire

So none of these people had adrenaline moments before turning 30 like Nathan or 20 something like Peter:huh: This also has something to do with the eclipse as someone said. Maybe the eclipse activates the powers of those with them and then they are able to use them.

This also could explain why the world isn't populated by Heroes as a dominant and positive gene would win out and populate the entire Earth after many generations. The current Heroes die off and the gene remains dormant until the next rare eclipse???

Just because they have times of high adrenaline doesn't mean the powers HAVE to activate. Remember the triggers back in season one/two?

- Niki being visited by her father Hal rearing up hidden emotions
- Nathan's crash w/ Heidi
- Maya's anger with Alejandro over marrying a tramp

And others I missed. It's not stated that the powers ALWAYS activate during times of high adrenaline.

But that has been retconned with this season and Mohinder saying it was adrenaline. And all of those you mentioned actually could have had adrenaline produced during those moments. It obviously has to do with the eclipse and that explains why 10 year old Nathan couldn't fly.

So Peter cant copy someones ability until they have used the power around him or he just wouldnt know how to use Sylars ability without him teaching him?

Okay I give up, I don't think you're understanding.

What is really up with Tracy, Niki and Barbara??

Where does Jessica fit in? Was she the Barbara triplet?

What is Niki's actual power? Jessica had the super strength that Niki then took as her own.

Will Barbara ever show up? If she does, will Nathan bag her too? (Yeah, he's acting like someone who's found God, alright.:whatever:)

Um... the eclipse happened in the first episode... which was six months after some powers came out.

See what happens with bad writers, they've crapped over their own rules and just did whatever was 'cool'.

I'm pretty sure he needs to know that he has the ability in order to use it. Remember in season one, he was in the same room with Eden and he still hasn't used her power of persuasion.

How can you use something you don't know you have? Well until now...

Well for the x-men it was usually puberty and in this show its usually some form of stress.
