Chapter 46 - "Our Father" - Discussion Thread 12/08/2008

Not really. This is the man who was able to telepathically describe floor plans by memory to Matt Parkman.
I could understand the mom forgetting as her mind was wiped a lot by the Haitian but HRG has a mind like a steel trap:o

Why post that in the thread of an actual good episode?

of course everything is up to ones personal opinion, but really, the writing was good this time whether you like where the characters are going or not

I laughed cause for the Majority of the season yeah its been this way but thats why we have the gripes thread. Oh well, people seem to hate this show when to be honest it has a bigger budget, more flying alongside action and free reign than Smallville in 3 years than it has is 7. I wish the CW would treat one of its biggest shows like it is one of them. *prepares to be flamed for liking both Heroes and Smallville*

Great episode!!! I was in NYC and still stayed in to watch... and I'm glad i did.

so let's settle some debates...

The bullet would blow Arthur's brains out the back of his head.
therefore the bullet is not in the head to be removed. and you cant just put his brain back together. This was covered in season 2 when Adam tells Peter "you dont come back from that".

the marine says "boat load" of hajis.

Sylar wanted to be good to gain acceptance from his "family" but now that he believes that's false he's back to his old self.

The Hiro/Mother scene was great. That's the kind of emotional depth we need to see more of.

Just caught the ep

I hope that the writers don't erase future ponytail-having Hiro by actually leaving him in the past. Or maybe that'll somehow lead to him turning into that. Idk

Arthur dying should hopefully repower all the people who's powers he stole

I gotta say, aside from Sylar's antics I generally enjoyed this episode...but on a show where taking a piss the wrong way or any other tiny action in the past leads to post-apocolyptic futures, does anyone else find it absurd that Claire and Hiro can completely alter where the Company puts something so important (a grown Hiro, someone who is for all intents and purposes a total stranger to people in that time period) and yet somehow everything is fine in the present?

I enjoyed it too. first episode I've enjoyed in a long time. Didn't seem like the rest of the season at all.

I enjoyed this ep but I'm now wondering WTH's going on w/ the writing on this show. I really think that these writers are actually reading all of the internet fanboys critques and whinning about the show and each week they just decide to 180 what they've done previously. Sylar being evil is Kewl and all but really makes no sense considering how they've spent the entire season showing how much he's changed. I find it pathetic really. He had no reason to kill Elle considering he already had her powers. It wasn't like he felt some sort of "Hunger". Arthur seemingly knowing that Hiro was 16yrs in the past was lame. Maybe the writers will give some sort of explanation like he happened to see Issac's comic too or something. Really lame.

Its obvious whats going to happen in that regard, Kid Hiro is most likely going to be the one that sends him back.

YES! YES! YES! Sylar is Sylar again. I know he killed Elle for no reason and that his whole journey towards being a good person is a complete waste. But he is back baby! I thought he was gonna sympathize with that woman to take her powers, hahah guess i was wrong.

What exactly was Claire trying to do? I mean if she didn't get the catalyst as a baby, then wouldn't it just be harder for the heroes to keep it out of Arthur's hands? Because then the catalyst could be anyone and anywhere. I know Hiro took it but Claire didn't know. And how did Arthur know?

I'm curious to see how Peter and Hiro will get their powers back. Peter is way overdue. probably with the formula, which i think is lame.

If Kid Hiro sent him back then Adult Hiro finding out about his powers in Season 1 is 'wtf'.

I have to be honest, even though I got so upset he killed Elle I'm glad evil Sylar is back! :D but I don't really like how he's acting like a total psycho IMO

I liked the evil sylar that was worried about blowing up NY because of all those innocents dying.

and now we have a very confused Sylar who has no idea of what to do next with his life, for instance, by getting the lie detector power, he's just trying to cope with it all

or at least that's what I get out of it

Well, if you think back, Hiro somehow knew in Season 1 he had some sort of power. Remember, he was starring at the clock "trying" to make it move backwards. How did he know he could possibly move time?

Maybe he makes future Hiro go back to his time, so its a taste of his power. That would explain why he believes he is a hero in the first episode.

we dont even know that, we just assumed she did...maybe she never was the catalyst?

the only issue i see with that is why then is she "special" or "different from the rest" like sylar said in the first episode of this season

Of course she was, why else would Arthur be after her? Hiro and Claire changed the past. Had they not been there, they would have given it to Claire.

Anyway, the catalyst is separate from Claire's healing powers.

Claire, as we found out in this episode, never was the catalyst. She only assumed she was after remembering Sylar's comment about how she was "special." Remember Angela's comment to Hiro earlier in the season about him being "the light?" That was a clue that not only was the Cataylst Hiro's mom but that he would become the Catalyst.

Exactly. Claire only assumed she was the catalyst but she never was because Hiro and Claire went back in time and prevented it from happening. The reason why Claire is "different from the rest" according to Sylar is because she can never die unlike his other victims.

If Claire wasn't the Catalyst, then why did Arthur want her, and why was he concerned that she would die?

If Hiro was always the catalyst, that means he had to've already gone back in time, which means Arthur would have already been the catalyst. The whole time thing makes no sense, but Claire was the catalyst. Neither of them were in the past, so Noah picked up the phone and they gave it to Claire.

Now they both went back in time and changed the future, ie, Claire is no longer the catalyst, Hiro is/was. Hiro did become that catalyst, but that does not mean he always was. Claire was until they intervened.

This show needs to stop traveling through time, none of it makes any sense and I completely agree with Matt that they keep acting like time travel could change the world, but it never seems to.

Frankly, if Arthur really just wanted the catalyst, he could have gone back in time to steal it himself. Or just warped to Claire to take it like he did when he snuck up on Hiro both times.

Did anyone else find that scene with Sylar, the Hatian, Peter and Arthur bit weird?
