Chapter 40 - “Dying of the Light” – Discussion Thread 10/20/08

Whatever happened to Kristen Bell? Slipped my mind...
I was wondering that too. It didnt slip my mind bc everytime I see Daphne, I think thats Elle in a very bad wig. Those two look so much alike

That seems kind of silly to me based on what little I know of how cells work, but they can have powers work any way they like as it is their show. I just wish they'd made Adam a normal instead of killing him. He was a cool character, and it might have been interesting for his character wise. Have the indestructible man suddenly become paranoid now that he's mortal.

yeah. That would have been very cool. Then he could've come back later on. And what happened to Adam's Wife being in this season? I haven't seen her yet! How is she going to take Adam being killed? or maybe he's coming back somehow? Although that is a very, very, long shot...:csad:

Tonight kicked ass. Best episode yet. This season has all the depth and nuance of Season 1 with a completely different tone. It's really coming along well.

I'm sure we'll get those taglines soon. They were on the verge of it during the preview of next weeks episode.

I just assumed that 'You can't choose your family...but you can choose a side' was the tagline.

And, seriously, somebody needs to spray Mohinder with Black Flag (It kills bugs dead :cmad:).

While I doubt this, someone brought up a good point on another board: this could explain how Peter got his scar and have his powers at the same time. Have his powers stripped, get scarred, get powers back and the quesiton is finally answered.

I concur! Very awesome episode. Papa Petrelli is a bad ass. His powers are so interesting. He's like a cooler version of Rogue. :woot:

Peter has basically the same power, he just doesn't need to touch anybody.

The Petrelli Dynasty is da bomb.

I didn't realize people still said that.

Peter has a similar power, but his doesn't remove the powers in the process.

which is also why I think the Hunger thing is dumb in regards to Peter.:o

He does not need to be screwing off heads. Sylar had no other means of acquiring abilities, Peter literally just has to stand there.

Regardless it's a bulls**t side-effect as Sylar has shown sociopathic behavior even without his powers.:o

Okay...Hiro stops time and teleports and does the trick with Ando. Why didn't the superspeed chick see this happen? She was still mobile in the season premiere when he froze time...in fact, she said he didn't really stop time, just slowed it down.

Maybe she has to be tapping into her speed to not be effected.

They were never going to delve that deep into the 12 apparently.

Really good episode tonight, with lots of great developments and touches.

First of all, what can I say--Arthur Petrelli is a bad ass. Oh, sure, he's got a variation of the mimic powers, but it makes sense considering Peter is his son, and it's actually a lot like Rogue's, only controllable. Really was not expecting him to kill Adam Monroe via absorbing his own power, so right away you knew this guy was someone you didn't want to mess with. Oh, I'm sure some will be upset that Adam is dead, but even so, it was a great scene. And taking all of Peter's powers away? There have been complaints that Peter was getting too powerful, so this is a good way to essentially build him up again from the ground up. Not to mention that he's no longer has Sylar's power either, meaning he's not psychotic anymore. Plus, it gives us a very good hint that, maybe, since he no longer has healing powers, that this is how he eventually gets the scar across his face. Well played.

What wasn't so great is the continuing saga of making Sylar into a good guy, as he's the one who comes across being more sensible and more in control of his "hunger"--a concept which I really don't like since I find this aspect of why he was a killer to begin with unnecessary. Although, we got a pretty decent fight scene between the two, although I was somewhat disapointed we didn't get a Peter Sylar team-up by the end.

As for Hiro, I knew he figured out someway to make it look like he killed Ando, and it was pretty well done. Interesting examples of what happens when Hiro goes back only hours or minutes at a time and Ando's reactions. However, the whole sequence with them trying to capture the African precog did wear a bit thin, although thankfully, Hiro only got hit in the head with the shovel twice--three times would have really been pushing it :D.

The whole Matt and Daphne interaction was good as well, as we get Matt, having so convinced about his future that he's a love sick puppy complete with pet turtle, and Daphne treating him like he's a would be "stalker" before Matt mentions the name of their child, followed by her growing sympathy for him and her having second thoughts about being with the Villains. So far, it's shaping up to be a far better love story than the stupid Claire/West teen angst drama from last season.

Speaking of which, the Claire subplot involving rescuing Meredith from Eric Doyle was certainly a highlight for Claire, as she now looks like she's got enough confidence in herself, which is what fans have probably been wanting for her to be for awhile. I didn't think Doyle was sleazy or teisted enough considering his power, but the whole spin the gun scene was very effective the whole way through.

The whole MohinDUH! becoming Brundlefly is still the weakest storyline, but perhaps the addition of Tracy and Nathan possibly confronting him and rescuing his coocooned captives will pick up. The problem, of course, is that this whole idea of MohinDUH essentially becoming a mad scientist was so jarring to begin with, and then we're supposed to feel sympathy for him really didn't wash. Mainly because his whole motivation of being jealous of those with abilities seemed so tacked on in the first place. Hopefully, this will start to be put to bed by next episode.

So, all in all, a very decent outing this time around.

What happened to Adam's Wife finding him? Are they no longer doing that or is he coming back some how? I mean, I remember seeing pix of the actress they cast and everything.

or...will The eleventh wife never be mentioned again and turn out to be a forgotten plot thread that is never resolved, which has been known to happen in Heroes.

Looks like it's going to be more along the lines of trying to find him, and I'm betting she's probably going to be revealed as Niki and Tracy's other sister, Barbara.

Here's an interesting thought, what would happened if Arthur Petrelli touches the Haitian? Being that when the Haitian's around, powers seem to stop working.
