Chapter 53 - "Shades of Gray" Discussion Thread 3/9/09

OK, so we're sure that's Matt's kid? I thought it was just a baby with the same name (there are lots of people in the world, even in the country...) and who probably also had a power, given that Hiro and Ando were led to 'save' him. I could be wrong, it seems you guys caught something I didn't.

In the preview for next weeks episode, it's clearly shown that it's Matt's baby.

Like most episodes, this started out solid. The Danko/Nathan/HRG/Angela plot continued to flourish and was actually handled well and fun to watch. However...once again, we have stupid sideplots such as Claire working in a comic store being quizzed/checked out by dorks and a subplot with the Puppet Master that went no where. Same with the whole Sylar story. YAY! Sylar needed a whole 2 season arc about his daddy issues to develop him into the same exact character he was in season 1.

Also, once again, the useless paintings prove to be just that...useless. And despite a decent end of the episode, it was hampered down by a stupid twist regarding the entirely worthless characters of Hiro and Ando.

So once again, we get a mixed bag, because the writers just cannot create a tightly wound plot.

Also, when Nathan showed the president the files of the people with powers, Micah's picture was on top. Clearly Micah is on file. Yet everyone is baffled as to how someone could be controlling technology to save the other powered people?

You missed the most obvious one: Papa Sylar was about to use a knife to slice Sonny's head open, when he clearly knows how to use TK as a noggin-opener, since he did the same to Mama Sylar, inspiring Sonny's methods.

I guess they can explain it as Papa Sylar's TK being so weak that it is unable to slice through the hardest bone in the human body, but still.

Guess what? I still like the show, and I won't pretend that I can write a better story, because if I can, I already should have--otherwise, I'll just be wasting my talents, huh Matt? Speaking of which, have you applied for that writer position with Kring's production company yet?

That's an absurd defense. Am I not allowed to critique an athlete because I can't slam dunk a basketball? Am I not allowed to criticize my president because I'm not capable of launching a nationwide campaign?

When it's the ONLY thing you can do, you're just a parrot. You're this show's Rush Limbaugh--might have had a point some time ago, but have simply devolved into a megaphone for your own self-aggrandizement.

I'm happy to take the show for what it is, and if it sinks too low in the pit, I'll leave it alone. I'm not going to be "TK slicing" people's brain cells with my repeated rants along the way. If you feel THAT strongly about it, if you are REALLY a fan, as opposed to a mouth looking for a cause to ***** about, freakin' write to Kring or something. I know we agree on other shows, such as Chuck, for example, but this incessant need to nitpick on Heroes is getting ridiculous.

And just to drive home the point: EVERY post, in EVERY thread you post in, in the Heroes forum, is about a rehashed or reinvented gripe you have. Why don't you do your (and mine's) blood pressure a favor, and stay out? I'm sick of hearing how intellectually superior you are over the show's writers and producers. Either do something about it, or stay the hell away from it.

Unless, you know... he's already been apprehended. :whatever:

Luckily this is a public message board and I am able to say whatever the hell I'd like about this show. If you don't like it, perhaps you should leave...or at least employ your ignore button.

Ah yes. The infamous "1st Amendment Defense". I guess my analogy of You = Rush Limbaugh is quite apropos.

At least Rush knows to preach to his choir. Why don't you stick to the gripes thread, where you Negative Nancies can personally pull each other's pud about how intellectually bereft this show is?

Again, I have complaints about this show, and I have personally complained in here about it. I've even agreed with you. But if it's SO bad, where your negativity actually turns the forum into a black pool of Gothness, why stick around? All you're doing now is a mind-exercise in trying to show your "superiority" as THE definitive superhero fanboy.

You're not looking to improve the show anymore. You're just interested in typing up your words and admiring how superior it makes you feel as you re-read them. Obnoxious incarnate.

^^ well said carnut!
And who the hell made matt a mod on the heroes board anyway?!?
that was just poor decision makin right there....
I just don't get how someone can hate a show that much and yet still watch it every week...?
For instance, I stopped watching the news years ago when it started to suck :P

Sylar kills a bunny wabbit.

That's it. I'm done.

I watch it on DVR because I have nothing better to do on a tuesday morning. At any rate, your defenses are coming shockingly close to trolling, so I suggest you know it off.

Do I even know you?

So, relying on our Bill of Rights is infamous, but the practice of accusing a critics we disagree with of egomania is insightful. :whatever:

I made the Gripes Thread was made as a courtesy when the quality of this show was questionable. The fact that this show has decreased in quality steadily is simply beyond argument at this point. It's just plain old not that good. This episode did nothing to contradict that.

More dropped plotlines. More Sylar-fest. Claire is the only character who has done anything this ep that we haven't seen them do a hundred times, and she's still a helpless victim flitting from one father figure to the next following orders and providing a lot of not-really-that-hot teen angst.

Heroes continues to make small improvements, at the expense of things that made it great in the first place. If there's room to speak of the former, there's room to speak of the latter.

I watch it on DVR because I have nothing better to do on a tuesday morning.

And I actually have to FORCE myself to watch Smallville, when there is nothing else in my DVR. And when I am watching, I sometimes have to fast forward through the melodramatic crap. Do you SEE me posting in the Smallville forums about how dreadful I believe the show has gotten? Do you see me handing out half-hearted compliments to the show, only as a jumping-off point for my obvious and inevitable knit-picks?

You know why I don't do all that? It'll be a waste of my time. Now you, what's your excuse? You obviously don't give a rat's ass about this show--even openly predicting a cancellation in the other thread where the show's RENEWAL is being discussed.

So. Why are you here everyday then? If the show is so hopeless, why bother? Again, the only answer left is you're here to flaunt your intellectual superiority to the material (as you see it).

At any rate, your defenses are coming shockingly close to trolling, so I suggest you know it off.

You talk about me "trolling", yet you're the one that really has nothing to add to the discussion. You are about as predictable as rain on a recently-washed car.

Here's your post pattern:
  1. Slight compliment [Optional]
  2. Complain about side-story
  3. Complain about Sylar
  4. Complain about Claire
  5. Complain about another character that happened to be in the episode (Tracy/Hiro/Ando/Matt/etc./etc./ad nauseum)
  6. Complain about inconsistencies
C'mon. You're just parroting yourself over and over again. WE GET IT. THE SHOW IS BAD. IT WAS BAD THE FIRST HUNDRED TIMES YOU SAID IT, AND IT WILL LIKELY STILL BE BAD FOR THE NEXT HUNDRED COMPLAINTS YOU SUBJECT US TO.

How about you leave those of us who actually want to talk about the story AS IT ACTUALLY UNFOLDED--NOT AS HOW WE WISHED IT WOULD HAVE UNFOLDED--alone? Have you EVER seen me in the gripes thread?

We can't ignore Matt because he's a mod :csad:

Attacking and harrassing another poster, even a moderator is forbidden. Last chance Carnut.

Finally watched this episode. I liked it although I felt the Sylar storyline was completely pointless IMO. I am glad Clair is stepping up albeit slowly but really the hot comic book girl??? And the stupid cliche comic books geeks. I hate when shows do that. Angela was at her finest as usual. I am glad that the Hunter finally found out that Nathan can fly. I wonder if Nathan is gonna run away for good or come clean to the president and still run the show. Between Nathan, Angela and Noah I still can't tell where allegiances lie and what are their motives but they are still keeping me interested. I see next week Hiro and Ando will be playing my two dads  Is it safe to assume that the baby is actually Matt Parkmans kid. Missed part of the preview for next week so not sure if they showed that. All in all not a terrible episode.

And that is what is really keeping me hooked, the Angela/Nathan/Noah/Danko plot. Especially the questions surrounding the allegiances of Angela, Nathan, and Noah. Angela has really come into her own this volume.

I am intrigued with just about anything involving Angela. She really should get some more exposure on this show. I also enjoy Peter when they are not writing him like a child. I am totally indifferent to Hiro and Ando honestly. They have so much potential with Claire but they never use it to their advantage. I hate when some actresses are just kept in the show to be the hot girl everyone loves especially if they seem to have the ability to be more than that.

Angela is pretty much perfection. She's been so since the premiere episode of season one.

She's seriously the only person, that always keeps me guessing as to what their motives are or what they're going to do next. Love her!

I will guarantee that Danko will die at the end of this volume so what he does really doesn't matter as his development will go down the tubes.:o It is sad that a show about super heroes, the two most interesting characters are one that doesn't have powers and one that hardly ever uses her powers. Peter use to be awesome and they have just adjusted his character to hell. Sylar once was also awesome but his plot is treading water. I can't believe I had hope for this volume. Next week looks good but we know Tracy will also die so that Barbara can be introduced. Claire, Hiro, Ando, and Matt go no where and Daphne, one of the only bright spots from Villians is not MIA with a wound. Lastly, if we never see Sylar's dad again then I will be extremely mad.

I thought Bryan was back on the job:huh:
