Is they're any scheme to stop a hypothetical mod from getting too tyrannical? Because whilst the majority of mods are really great at their job, let's face it some of 'em are bound to let the power go to their heads, at which point a normal hypster is defenceless against a scary lunatic in red.:o

How about a Philosophy/Science forum to keep Community more lighthearted and those threads from sinking into the abyss?

Well, the problem with creating more sub-forums is that, eventually, the Community will have no purpose.

Matt locked your threads (Pro Season three and that I'm a Celebrity) with good reason. :whatever:

Meh I'm not really bothered about those threads (see the amount of threads I make and you will understand why) however I am very open about my dislike of Matt, what's your point?

Pretty much everything is discussed among the entire staff. We won't back everyone up if we think they're wrong. We speak as individuals and we often disagree. If someone does become 'too tyrannical', the other staff members will level them out. If a poster feels they're being treated unfairly, they should talk to the moderator in question respectfully. If that gets them nowhere, go to another staff member and discuss the situation.

Thanks for answering, I am a lot happier knowing that a mod can't just have a vendetta against a poster. :woot:

I have found that the mods here are pretty cool in general. :) I've never really had any problems with any of them. Though I maintain that Drak is the cutest. :D

That's because most mods are pretty cool, I'm a big fan of Kel, Corp and Bella I am just wary that some mods may be slightly insane. :oldrazz:

Where did DOG LIPS touch you?

Captain has a point....what's to stop a Mod from carrying out a personal agenda?...I have even asked if this has ever happened with a Mod before and have yet to get a straight answer...

It probably has. But not that I've seen since I've been on the staff.

I think, on a more positive note, that things that get people involved are always great on here. We should do more of them. Hype Idol was great. Where's survivor? I think I've heard Erz mention that he isn't doing it... if I'm wrong I apologise... but I'm sure I heard you mention it.

If so, who else could do it?

Not to say that we start doing sh** like Strictly Come Hyping or anything. Survivor.

:)

Survivor right now is at LSP and is in the process of being wrapped up before Thanksgiving.

No one is stopping it from being here, Stormy tried although family obligations prevented him from finishing it up.

I can't take credit for this thread, ray. Bamfer planted the seed, I just... make sure it grows? It's Bamfer's baby which I and the rest of the mods co-parent because we think it's a good idea.

Bamfer, Here's to you! I'm sure this thread will help improve the quality of life here on the hype!

Just wondering... when suggestions were made, are the thoughts on the Community as a whole or on only a certain group of people? I'm asking this because the suggestion of an exclusive thread seems to only affect a certain group of people. How will having an exclusive thread, the kind that's by invite only, help improve the quality of Community as a whole? (Btw, that can be done by opening a 'club' in the Social Group option)

While I like the color scheme suggestion, does 'rewarding' posters with colored fonts to their username help improve the quality of the poster?

I believe that giving posters the ability to edit their thread title is going to happen, if it hasn't already. Great suggestion, that one.

Rating users? While I can see the pros in that, I see more cons as it can be so easily abused.

The other mods.

All the niceties that are being mentioned may not improve the quality of the actual poster, but moreso the quality of the posting experience. Like having a heater in your car during the winter won't necessarily make you a better driver... but it sure is nice to have one.

A lot of the ideas though are only benefiting oldbies or in one case, completely removing newer posters from oldbie convos.

I get your point, but at the same time, the quality of the posting experience will only benefit certain groups of people, won't it? How will having a certain color to your username font affect the quality of your posting experience? May I ask what are the 'niceties' that you have in mind specifically?

Of the four mentioned in Bella's post... only two would benefit oldbies... and, now that I think about it, having an invite only thread or forum would be incredibly boring as there would be only a few people posting in there.

As far as benefitting new users... don't you think that's the point of places like these? Lure users into trying to stick around by giving them these "rewards" and maybe in the process of obtaining these little tidbits of joy, they will find out that the Hype is actually not such a bad place to hang out on the internets. Hence the benefits of reaching oldbie-ness.

Unfortunately it was cut short, hopefully another one will start up soon.

Hype Idol was pretty fun, to bad neither of us could commit to finishing it and we had some trouble with submissions.

Since when!?

:csad::csad::csad:

Hmmm. I believe over several months ago.
