There is one particular poster who I think was unfairly perma-banned....but I don't think he'd be allowed be back because he kept sneaking back under other SN's

I too miss Franny :csad:

not really but still, fun poster to talk too

I hope what you're saying about transparency comes to fruition. It's been pushed for before and generally failed.

And for the record, it's happened as recently as 07 (and probably 08 too), so saying it's years in the past is a bit disingenuous. As long as it's made clear and adhered to consistently going forward, it's really not so important.

Suggestions.
no not from this thread, from this site

what do moderators want in general from us as posters?

what do you want in order to make your jobs easier/better?

People have let personal biases affect their judgment before. And when these situations occur, the only thing we can do as a staff is try to clean up what's been done.

Of course, when regular posters bring that up, certain moderators take offense, yadda yadda.

It'd be nice if we see those mods who let their personal bias effect their decisions be held accountable for their actions.

Whether it be infractions (which I find useless btw) OR temporary bans.

Naturally, there have been a few situations here and there where a member of the staff may see something as being more "heinous" than the other moderators based on the person involved or the specific circumstance of the purported e-crime. In cases like those, we've often retracted infractions, reduced probations, or eliminated bannings altogether.

But in the case of someone "abusing" their power to the point where it's not really debatable? Well, to be honest, I can't think of many instances in my tenure of that nature. We're not going to scold anyone for making a human, biased judgment unless it's detrimental to the integrity of the staff.

Without a doubt, though, there's a certain checks and balances system to how we go about doing things. You should be well aware of that. No one is going to make a decision regarding a poster's future all by their lonesome.

Well it's a lot different in the Washroom Cmill. Mods there are free from the eyes of normal poster and can be biased, overly opinionated and vengeful without fearing the rest of us of seeing.

I know behind closed doors, mods can vent, lash out, etc. but it's a very disconcerting as a poster who sees how mods react in the Washroom and can't help but think that some of their moderation is not based on personal opinions and they don't seem to realize there should be a level of professionalism and less "cattiness".

I can't speak for the others, so all I'm going to say is this:

Just because someone holds a certain opinion of an individual doesn't mean that person has the freedom to do whatever the heck they want, simply based on how they feel. In other words, a moderator may hold a not-too-pleasant opinion of a poster (just as posters do to other posters), but that does not mean that said mod is going to smack around whomever they have on their e-hate list.

It goes back to what I was saying about checks and balances. No one is making a decision by themselves. It's a group effort. We're going to do what's right to the best of our abilities under the guidelines of the forum, and not what's favorable to Cmill or to Hunter or to Bella.

Mod X may not like Teddy, but that doesn't mean he's just going to go around infracting Teddy at his or her leisure. Somewhere along the line, another mod or another admin would step in to analyze the issue if it is indeed a case of vindictive moderation.

Venting a frustration about a poster and/or annoyed by a poster does not translate into said poster being axed by an angry mod.

Of course, we all love TEDDY. [/robotic]

Seeing a mod say "I can't wait til he steps out of line yadda yadda" or "it felt good laying a ban on something" really doesn't help your case Cmil. And I know all mods are not like that but there should be a level of professionalism that some mods lack. I'm glad there are some mods though that are there to bring the others back down from their power trip.

And honestly, why should a mod watch what they say in the Washroom. The chances of a poster seeing what they say is nil and there's usually a "comradey between the rest of the mods, that there probably will be others who look the other way.

Who wants to say to another mod "hey, maybe we should be a little more professional"?

I bet they're in the washroom saying "Damn, that Erz doesn't shut the **** up."

'Washroom'?? is that a figurative term or is it the thread that the mods all hang in...??

Yeah, it's the forum they all go and are big brother like in.

And I understand exactly where you're coming from Erz.

But I want to reiterate: what someone says does not equate to the actions that are actually taken.

And I would also hope that you can acknowledge how much venom has been spewed about some of the members of this staff inside and outside of this forum. You don't think that some individuals have the right to have natural, human animosity towards certain people? I don't think I need to get into the details of what's been said and done.

Again, this is not to suggest that those feelings are somehow acted upon. It's just to say that people have the right to be upset.

But let's also not kid ourselves here: this is the friggin' internet.

Professionalism? In a private lounge area where venting is allowed? As long as those opinions don't manifest themselves in the form of a poster's dismissal or genuinely unfair treatment, I think it's a moot point.

Any word on implementing the ability for thread starters to be able to change/edit their thread titles? That was as yet unresolved last I checked. :(

From what I'm seeing, it looks to be set up already.

The thread title edit option is not avaialble to us users. It is not in our thread tools. :( I just checked. I wanted to change my fanfic thread title and I can't. You see the option in your tools because you are a mod (I modded a VBullitin board so I know this...)

I looked in the back end, not the thread tools.

What do you mean by back end? *feels stupid* :(

I checked the front page of my thread, back page, all the various click on thingys that are on any given page including the advanced edit page... I got no "back end" I got no edit/thread title of any kind except for the title on an individual post. :(

Drakon never answered my question. Is there a mod here who can tell me step by step, with excrutiating exactness, as if to a very small child, how to edit a thread title? Because I am still not convinced that we regular users have this amazing and tantalizing ability.... :(

Everyone is allowed to vent of course, but you can do that without resorting to name calling and being power trippy especially putting it in the title of the thread.

And how can one discern that one's words are not related to their actions. ESPECIALLY when the mod says it felt good to ban someone.

I understand where you are coming from and I believe you CMil. I just don't trust some of the other mods and I don't think I ever will.

I edited one of my thread's titles once. It was a couple minutes after I made it, I double clicked right next to the title, and instead of the title being all blue and clickity, I could edit it and stuff. Haven't been able to do it since.

Can't say I totally disagree. It's something to think about, even when in private.

And how can one discern that one's words are not related to their actions.

Because those words were never meant to be seen or heard by you. You can only make judgments based on the actual actions taken, Erz. And if you feel those actions are unjust, then feel free to let me know. But peeking into the diary doesn't always reflect what the girl is actually up to.

That's understandable. And you're entitled to feel that way.

All I can say is that I will do everything in my power to ensure that a level of trust can be obtained between posters and moderators. It's the only way we can truly have a harmonious relationship.

I made my thread a few years ago so that's a no... :(

I checked it out on my other screen name and saw no options or ways to change the title. :csad:
