Hunter, the problem isn't about respecting other people's views. Fine, Daisy doesn't want people at work to see her looking at stuff like that. Ok, that's great, but why is there a continuing trend on the Hype that we must cater to the needs of a minority. "We can't do this, because the kids." When kids, who are at least registered here, are in the minority, at least IMO, unless some concrete data is presented, I will continue to believe that. "We can't have that because it offends a few of the female posters." When they're even in the minority within the female poster minority on here. It's not about segregation or seclusion. They have their rights, but why must we dictate policy and regulation around the whims of a few, when the many do not have an issue with it. That's the main argument here which goes beyond a simple avatar.
I was shopping today and saw a Star Wars canvas. Good quality, and very funny.
It was a picture of Hoth, and had an AT-AT looking down at an AT-RT. 'I Am Your Father,' it said.
I thought of Womp when I saw it.![]()

This isn't a democracy Darth. Its not majority rules, it is Mirko rules and he does not want crap that could offend someone on his site. It really is that simple.

I'd just like to know if, as a result of this discussion, Atomiconline.com is adding the keyphrase "humping robots" to their marketing target data for future use in ad placements.

I have to question however how much Mirko is a part of day to day affairs on here. I'm pretty sure he didn't come in last night and tell you guys "Tell Wompum to change his avatar." Excuse me, I meant "ask". Mirko isn't always available to dictate things on here, so you, the moderators are left to run the site. So, in essence, you guys are setting policy, and he's just signing whatever comes across the table. Hey, I'm probably wrong, for all I know, Mirko is a mainstay in the washroom and is constantly discussing stuff. But from the perspective of a peon poster like me here, that's what I see. So yeah, I'm not ignorant to the fact that this isn't a democracy Matt, give me more credit than that. At the same time however, I see this more like a business. You can set all the policies you want and it may work for a while, but when you start losing customers because of them, you're going to start feeling the pinch. So yeah, you can continue with your "In Soviet Russia, the Hype posts you" mantra, but we, the posters make the site. If we didn't come here, there would be no site. So, you can take this analogy a step further, you guys are Rome, and we're the mob. What would they say about the mob?
Singling out this part of this post, so that's all it takes? One person to be offended? Or the possibility for someone to be offended. So technically, no one actually has to be offended. Ok, lets see this in action. Your avatar offends me because I believe it's slightly racist.
So when does another mod come in and "ask" you to change it?
When the first issue over simulated gifs and images was brought up it was taken to Mirko, at which point he said he didn't want any simulated sex acts on SHH, thus the announcement was made. I don't wish to drive anyone away but the vast majority of this site don't give two craps about this kind of thing Darth, they log in, go to their comic or movie section with their character avvy and post, then they leave, there are very few that want to try and turn these little things into some sort of civil rights battle with the mods or owner.
What is racist about it ?
Was it specific though? Was it simulated sex acts involving humans? Was the notion of non-human simulated sex acts even discussed?
Yeah, I realize that most on here log on and talk about casting Johhny Depp in every comic book movie in production. Most of them don't give a crap, they don't even realize when changes are made or policies put into place. You can say the same thing about most people when it comes to governments. So we should just stay quiet then is what you're telling me? Lets go ahead and delete this thread then so no further "civil rights battles" happen ever again.
Well he's mocking a black man and his small role in a major blockbuster movie.
No they weren't, the idea was to simply cut out that type of thing in general, now the truth is you could argue that in Get Smart, a PG-13 movie, there is a comedic scene where Maxwell appears to be humping a dude over a table, now made into an avvy without context it would probably be a no go despite being from a PG-13 movie. In this case it was seen as a juvenile and crude, non PG-13 gif.
I never said that, I have no issue with any poster voicing their feelings over an issue, if I did then why am i the only one discussing it with you ? My point was you were making it sound like if we lost you and the few others who fight these fights, the Hype would break down, I was saying that the vast majority of it's fanbase don't care and it would not break down. I never said that means you shouldn't voice your views.
So is my avvy mocking the white man and his big role ? I mean they are the same, simple gifs showing a moment of their performance in a film.
It really isn't that simple. It's Christmas time, some people have festive avatars, some even religious. What if some people were offended by the religious ones? Would those people be forced to remove their avatars? This isn't a democracy Darth. Its not majority rules, it is Mirko rules and he does not want crap that could offend someone on his site. Oh geez, the Hype is turning into Washington's state capital building.

Just for the record Darth, more than one poster complained.
Fine. I'll leave it at that, because frankly, I'm starting to sound ridiculous and I realize that. Still this issue won't go away and will be brought up again. It just doesn't feel "fair" is the best word that I can come up with that one poster having a problem with an avatar is enough to set in motion the vehicles of change. And please, don't respond with life isn't fair.
I'm offended, is that not enough. The difference is clear though, you're not making a joke out of the moment, Matt is. If I wanted to keep arguing this, because clearly, I'm not actually offended, I'm trying to make a fruitless point.

Does religion violate the PG-13 policy in addition to being offensive?
We're talking about what is "deemed" offensive as offensive is objective.Does religion violate the PG-13 policy in addition to being offensive?
