Said it before and I'll say it again ....... they have got to get away from the war on mutants and Eric/Charles dichotomy. It's been done to death already. Hopefully AOA steers away from all of that.

Smart dialogue, brilliant acting...honestly, what were they thinking?

Didn't they get the ROBOTS GO BOOM! memo from Michael Bay?

Never said any of that didn't happen. But go ahead and run with that to your hearts content.

We're just cooler than everyone else, that's what it essentially boils down to. :oldrazz:

Totally it! :oldrazz:

But, let's not be so doom and gloom for a second. Let's look at this objectively:

This isn't like TASM2 where the movie is showing a massive decline in BO sales for the property itself. The X-Men are just more or less stagnated BO wise (though seeing a bump internationally). We can talk about everything until we're blue in the face (like Beast) but at the end of the day, both TASM2 and DoFP are getting sequels. Sequels within 2 years. So, obviously both studios see reasons to keep going with their given property. Just maybe we should all come to the conclusion that Spidey and the X-Men are not as big of draws anymore as we thought and won't join the billionaires club any time soon.

I'm disappointed on the front of THIS movie is great and it deserves to make a ton of money. But, the fact it isn't going to beat TWS doesn't mean I will suddenly judge the movie more harshly. If anything, it just makes me appreciate what TWS has done at the BO even more than I already do.

I don't think that is true. It's a core element of the comic book, so I don't think you need to abandon it. Plus, we likely won't focus as much on it given Apocalypse is in the next film.

How do you explain the Transformers films?

As with every box office thread, and this is not singling anyone out, it's just a general attitude in every one of these discussions, there's a certain level of lecturing from I Told You So Mountain that's wears on nerves as much overly optimistic fanboys can. There are really no winners in this discussion, it turns into the same thing every time.
That is fair. But I do think there is a difference between "I Told You So Mountain" and presenting the numbers for what they are.

Hated John Carter, haven't seen Lone Ranger. Loved the two Muppets movies. Loved the earlier Pirates movies, but they need to retire that series.

I'm more of an animated Disney movie fan, especially the musicals. Saw Aladdin on Broadway last night, it was awesome.
I am a Disney animated fan as well. The new "renaissance" that started with Tangled has been fantastic. Pixar got them through a rough decade, and then Lasseter helped bring the in house studio back.

Well, I would go onto Facebook and curse out all of my friends who haven't seen it....but I'm not a jerk, so I'm not going to do that.

It is what it is. And it's not terrible at all, so there no need to be so down about it.

Yeah but fans of exssting films somewhat get a punch In the face with ending of
DOFP by erasing the non-FC films so that those who wanted FC to be a reboot
or more or less now getting it.

No other franchise contunes to getbad past films brought up like Origins and LSs are always brought up.

The Xavier/Magneto relationship and mutant analogy for racism wasn't invented for films. They come from Comic Books.

People here bashed me when I said X-Men would never be Iron Man and Avengers box office size hits due to subject matter.Well I am being proven right.

Now comes the question how much will Fox be willing to spend on Apocalypse? Foreign Box office will tell us that.

And fewer I told you so's and incessant :funny: icons in replies to those posts would be a better way of doing that. It's hard enough pulling hyper fans off a ledge when these things happen. That's not helping.

And again, there are no winners in any of these threads. Same thing goes on every time. It's just the same amount of delusion and smugness from both sides every time.

100% not true, LOL! Spider-Man 3 and Superman Returns say "Hi"

As for FOX's spending on Apocalypse, I am sure they won't slash the budget. Especially considering it is showing a bump in international Box Office, and given Apocalypse is a disaster movie, it may attract more people.

See? They just promised Hit Girl that Apocalypse is coming. It's all good.

I will remember you (didi da da da)
Will you remember me (didi da da da)
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

:csad:

RIP X-Men Box Office numbers
Oh thanks for bringing back that. The horrible memories. I am going to end up like Charles in the 70s thanks to this. :funny:

As said before though, Malifecent is going to do $70 million. That is not some juggernaut weekend swallowing up every potential movie-goer in sight.
That is the exact point. Competition doesn't explain this weekend's numbers.

Smart dialogue, brilliant acting...honestly, what were they thinking?

I get you both, and I love the First Class crews take on the Charles/Eric relationship, especially with what McAvoy and Fassbender do with it. But every film with them is the same. 5 films, and 4 end with Eric "betraying" Charles and almost destroying any hope of a Human/Mutant coexistent, only for Charles and crew to bring it back. The only thing the first film was missing was the betrayal.

At some point you have to move away from that, and for a good while. It is getting repetitive and expected at this point now. Hopefully with how this film ended, they can do that.

I am sure they will. Likely, both of them are going to have to work together to defeat Apocalypse. I see Apocalypse as being the type of villain that can unite all sides to work together for a common goal, and Apocalypse likely will threaten everyone, so the mutant vs human drama likely gets down played.

Every superhero franchise has at least one "bad" film that gets brought up. :oldrazz:

Why do fans need to be pulled off a ledge?

Maybe while they are in this giving mood she can get them to promise a Kick-Ass 3!? Please...

Box office wise Superman returns didn't hurt Man of steel at all.Man of steel made more money domesticly than any X-Men films.

With Spider-man there was fallout because audences didn't want a reboot
of spider-man.The first amazing spider-man did very well wW.

ASM2's problems come from quality of film in writing and directing.

DOFP final WW will tell us how much Fox Is willing to spend on APocalypse.

And I have heard nothing on ASM3 since 2 opened and news broke Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci were breaking their partnership and they were suspose to write 3 as they did 2.

We've heard nothing about TASM3 honestly only because the film is 2 years away, LOL! Both Apocalypse and TASM3 will be in the script stage for a long while before we hear anything about potential casting, locations, etc. All that likely comes either around Oct-Dec or early next year. Unless script details leak earlier, it will be quiet up until the DVD releases of both movies.

You mean like the Sentinels? So At the end of Apocalypse, what are the chances Magneto betrayals the professor, and tries to use big guys abilities to wipe out mankind? :D

I guess people prefer the post 9/11 dread and paranoia of Nolan's Batman films?

Maybe Magneto rejoins Xavier after Apocalypse, like he did in the comics for a while! I am thinking that is possible. Hey, X3 hinted that in the 80s they were a team again :oldrazz:

Filmakers of X-Men series talked a lot about Apocalypse. With Spider-man we can't even be sure now who's writing ASM3 or if Sinster 6 and venom films are still on after domestic run of ASM2. It would be nice to know who I writing and if june 2016 release Is still on.

Honestly, that isn't a lot of time for the scripting stage. By this time next year they should be well into filming.

I'd actually love to see that, but I have no inclination that is the direction.

Ideally, that is true. But, works seems to have been done at least on X-Men Apocalypse for a while now, so they're fairly ahead on that. Now, TASM3, given all of TASM2's rewrites, yeah. They seem behind. No argument there.
