Maleficent has also been very well marketed to women and girls. Which a lot of these movies, sadly...aren't.

Although, conversely, Maleficent isn't of great appeal to men or boys.

DoFP was testosterone-heavy but it did have J-Law and nearly three-quarters of ticket buyers at Fandango said they went to see X-Men: Days of Future Past because of her being in the movie. Some of those ticket buyers interested in seeing J-Law must surely have been young women who follow her activities.

However, neither DoFP or Maleficent were really 'four-quadrant' movies...

I think Maleficent is doing well because of Disney, Jolie and is a family film. The Fault in our Stars is a marketed to women and girls and that has dropped from 1st to 5th place in a week.

It will still do over 700 million total. So i'm happy with that.

I'm happy with it too. $700 million WW is nothing to turn your nose up about. It only needs $38 million to hit it (which it will).

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is the first Fox movie to pass $200M since 'Alvin and the Chipmunks 2' in January 2010:

Fox must have lower budgets than most studios or something.

Budget has little to do with success.

Sunday is looking like $3.4 million for DOFP, which is higher than estimates. That would be around 5% drop from Saturday, thanks to Fathers' Day. Could go up $9.6-$9.8 million actual if the Friday and Sat estimates are accurate.

That statistic never made a lick of sense to me. It was obviously some poll with strangely narrow parameters. There's no way there was any truth to that.

It was more like, "out of a pool of people who are already buying DOFP tickets... and out of those, the people who know that Jennifer Lawrence is in DOFP... and out of those, the people that are diehard Jennifer Lawrence fans..."

Yeah I don't believe Fandango too. They said last year, The Wolverine has a big gap to the opening weekend ticket sales compare to FC and yet The Wolverine had lower opening weekend gross than FC.

And it's still going. Will most likely pass X2 domestically within a few weeks

YAY! 1st X-Men movie since X3 to hit the $200 million mark in the U.S.

And its a lock that it will pass X2! :woot:

I'm not sure about $700 million though. :csad: But I think 680 million is a lock.

I think it would be more satisfactory if DOFP did so well without ASM2 doing so poorly. As the case is right now, DOFP is only "winning" because ASM2 sucked so hard. So I don't think it's fair at all to lambast one and to praise another. Both can do so much better domestically.

And both are doing stellar numbers OS. So I disagree, it's not only ASM2 that's being "saved" by Overseas numbers. DOFP too is, as well.

Well I disagree with you.

This is the first time in 8 years that a X-Men film outgrossed its predecessors in the United States. From $134 million to $205 million and counting is a great increase. DOFP also had competition from Godzilla, TASM2 and Malificent. If we had more low-key films this May and films that don't gross over 50 million every weekend, DOFP's gross would be so much higher. X3 didn't have much competition in 2006 and its opening weekend was the 2nd highest grossing opening weekend of 2006. While DOFP is only 4th and I'm sure its placement will go down later this year.

And there's just no way DOFP would earn $300 million especially given the last 3 X-Men movies didn't even cross $200 million.

It'll definitely hit $700M. It's only $38M away. It's still going to make at least $15M domestically, $5M to $10M in Venezuela (where it has yet to open), and another $20M to $30M from the rest of the international market (it made $18M this weekend).

The lowest I can see it makking WW is... 662+15+5+20 = $702 million!

But my actual estimate is going to be $720 million. :D

10m in Venezuela would be cool, but not sure about it right now

X1: 1,462,078
X2: $1,205,005
X3: $1,802,556
XOW: $2,524,914
FC: $1,592,230
TW: $3,125,594

I would expect 3 million to 4 million given the gross of the previous X-Men films or 5 million if there's a great increase.

Cap:TWS made $10M even though Cap:FA only made a little over $1M. I know The Wolverine only doubled on X:FC, but who knows what will happen this time haha. But still, $5M there is my conservative estimate.

I heard there's a 4D release in Venezuela so hopefully that will help!

Cap 2 did 10 million there and Spidey did like 7.7 I think. I think 8 will be good for DOFP

Well realistically speaking the movie should end up right between UP(2009 - 731.3mil) and Gravity(2013 - 716.4mil) numbers 58 and 59 respectively on the All time WW grosses.no doubt it will beat CAP 2 total.

I hope you guys are right that it will beat Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

If it will, then the x-men frnachise is still going strong.

And if it doesn't the X-Men franchise isn't going strong?

CAP2 was well received and was financially successful. It'd be great to top it but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't.

PS. anyone using the phrase 'a lock' in this thread needs to be shot.

The movie is a lock to beat X2 domestically. So what now?

BoxOffice @BoxOffice

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST took in $9.82M this weekend. Domestic total now stands at $206.26M. #XMEN

Almost 10 million!
