imo, it wouldnt have so much merit, taking into account that we are comparing it to a Spiderman reboot, while Dofp is XMen 7 movie with an stellar cast. Its an unfair comparision.

If this was Spiderman 4, with original cast, Tobey and co, then yeah, I would be celebrating, but since its the reboot with young actors.... I dont feel it.
I'd agree with you if I were comparing it to The Amazing Spider-Man but I'm comparing it to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The first TASM made 752mil so lets not pretend people didn't have a right to expect TASM 2 to outgross X-Men: DOFP. I'm sorry but Spidey is one of the A-listers and it is amazing to see one of his films, that is a sequel to a 752million dollar film, struggling to beat an X-Men movie that came off of a 353mil grossing film.

Furthermore TASM 2 had Jamie Foxx and Emma Stone in it's cast so star power was not lacking in the film.

People used to say reboot Is solution to all problems to franchise and DOFP
Is somewhat of a reboot with the time travel mission.

The Amazing Spider-man made more domesticly than any X-Men film unadjusted
despite the fact many didn't want a Spider-Man reboot.

DOFP outgrossing a Spider-man film Is big news.Plus DOFP may outgross
Thor:The Dark World and that had avengers boost. That proves sometimes
quality does matter.Cap 2 was quality film and Is one of 2 highest grossing films of 2014.

It says everything as well as what some thought of the quality of Amazing SPider-man 2.

There hasn't been a highly praised Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2. Spidey is hurting for 3 reasons. Spider-Man 3, rebooting too quick (which wasn't received as well) and Amazing Spider-Man 2's reception. Sooner or later audiences will stop showing. This isn't coming out of the blue for Spider-Man. It's been a decline since Spidey 3.

You notice how The Wolverine and First Class didn't earn that much domestically? That's because X-Men have had to grab their audience back from the previous poorly received films. Spidey is gonna have to do the same now.

I agree but sony Is detminded to act like nothing Is wrong with spider-man.They are ones that axed Spider-man 4 when Sam rami was trying to devolp script everyone liked.granted ideas leaked about spider-man 4 didn't sound great but still.

Untill Sony realized there is some problem it will be more of the same. That's what fox did when while rothman was still there they brought Bryan SInger back. And they didn't micromanage the wolverine like origins.

BTW! DOFP did not have the benefit of an IMAX release which CA: TWS, Godzilla and ASM2 did.

Just saying.

700 MILLION without IMAX OS or Domestic

I think maybe closer to $660-665M WW. Its gonna finish around $203M after this weekend. And overseas it has made $166M and $82M the past two full weeks. So another drop around 50% will give it about $41M. So that adds up to about $665M WW.

Exactly. The next Spidey will suffer from the effects of 3 well received films and will struggle to do what a Spidey film should even if it's the best of the lot. It's diffficult to fight back from this position and X-Men has had to do it the hard way and even after 3 films the response is muted domestically. Positive momentum is surely building slowly though.

Definitely. It's tough to do and takes time. This flick is just about where I thought it would be box office wise. Now things should be in full swing by the time Apocalypse comes in. Those bad memories and reputations of underwhelming X flicks are a thing of the past now with audiences.

With DOFP making a big enough impression on audiences and the slew of new (but well known and very popular) additional characters in Apocalypse it's, gonna be huge. Plus unlike previous flicks, audiences don't have to wait that long and the announcements will start rolling in within the year. Which is also gonna keep upping the hype and positive wom. The franchise is in the best position yet to cash in on a larger audience. More so then DOFP had.

Estimated $1.7 million Wednesday, around 15% drop, better than the past 2 Wednesday's 30% drop and 25% drop respectively. DOFP continues to have better weekdays than X3, and should match X3's week 3 total again assuming it doesn't drop a lot tomorrow.

TASM2 performed so poorly that it was pretty much bound to happen.
But yeah an X-Men film beating a Spider-Man film domestically and overseas (which will happen as well) is a rare sighting which deserves recognition.

And what's interesting is 2014 is the first year that a Spider-Man film and a X-Men film were released in the same year, in the same month and in the same season!

I think this is a good estimate (all of your predictions in this thread have been good too btw).

in three more week, xmen could reach 500 outside USA. the weekend grosses more the full weeks... it will get it, if not, pretty close, like 490-495

How many more weeks does it haven't have left in China?

X-Men is at $195 mill now, it is already tapping Amazing Spiderman 2's shoulder right now.

Wednesday actual: $1,707,464 (-16%)

Domestic total: $195,050,480

why cant it have three more weeks in China? that would help a lot
back to domestic, will surpass Spiderman2 tomorrow

China doesn't do that. All films have a limited run, even if they are doing great. Cap2 was doing good as well at the end and it still got yanked. I think the only exceptions I know of is if a film is doing poorly, it may get yanked earlier, but no matter how good it does, it won't get to stay longer.

Yep I think the movie will only stay on if it has a huge demand like Avatar.

thats kind of stupid if u ask me. If China is that huge of a market, and the audience is that big, why dont they create more theathers and more screens to include other movies while keeping the ones that are making huge money at the moment?

its like saying: this movie is getting plenty of money and can still get more, but lets not get more money and stop it next week.

623 million DUHLARS worldwide. Weee. Weehhehee. I feel it in my butt that DOFP will crawl to 700 million. Like Wolverine tried to crawl for Magneto, but without getting thrown into a damn river.

Yep it's quite stupid. Apparently the Chinese audience moves on to new blockbusters really quickly so the cinemas assume they have to replace the old movies completely with the new ones.

I believe the reason why China limits how long foreign films run is to protect their domestic film industry.
