It's not just more plausible, that is the reason China kicks American movies out so early.

Didn't I read that cap 2 had 6 weeks? Why wouldn't xmen get 6?

Disney was probably able to negotiate a longer window. The window is usually 4 weeks but some films are able last longer. I believe IM3 got longer than 4 weeks too.

CA2 got 4 weeks but opened on a holiday weekend which compensated a bit for traditionally slower spring business.

IM3 got 5 weeks and a premiere in The Imperial City because it was considered a joint China production because of the distribution deal.

DOFP
got probably the best spot of the summer, nice separation between ASM2 and EoT, including a few big holidays because of the presence of Fan Bing Bing.

Edge of Tomorrow got screwed - only one week before Godzilla.

I find it interesting that DoFP surpassed TASM2's gross in China before it did the United States, especially given how on the TASM2 people were saying Spider-Man falling behind the other Marvel heroes was a uniquely American phenomenon.

I think it's also that X-Men featured Fan Bing Bing who's huge in China.

TASM2 was released on a Sunday too, I think that affected its total a little bit.

Yeah it's interesting. Looking through Spidey's foreign numbers, a lot of them seem similar to how it performed domestically: very front loaded. It still did well internationally because it raked in a lot on it's opening, and because there are certain countries that just seem to love it (looking at you, Japan). It seems like Spidey can always find money somewhere or other. But the numbers aren't as good as they could have been if it had the "legs" of something like Cap2.

Through thursday DOFP has made 196 Million Domesticly but it will fall out of top 5 today.

This weekend it will pass Amazing SPider-man 2 Domesticly.

Cap2 is more an anomaly. Thor movies, Cap1, FC and more havent reached the same success as Cap2 in USA, so its just a pattern.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, Cap 2 had unusually good legs, but I still think Spidey appears to have been more front-loaded than a lot of those other movies too. But admittedly that's just from quickly eying the foreign stats -- I don't know how the actual math breaks down. :cwink:

EDIT: Actually going back and looking more carefully a lot of those others seem to have been similarly front-loaded. But I guess with Cap2, it shows that it's possible to do better.

Thursday actual: $1,389,681 (-18.6%) Looks like most of the male audience films, which excludes Maleficent and FIOS, took a big hit on Thursday. Could be due to NBA, and the night showings of 22 Jump Street and HTTYD2.

Domestic total: $196,440,161.

Should pass TASM2 tomorrow.

Actually Captain America the First Avenger and Captain America The Winter Soldier will both have a similar-ish 2.7 multiplier. Both films had pretty decent legs.

A bit off-topic but the average multiplier for MCU films is 2.67. The less front-loaded film being Iron Man (3.23) and the most front-loaded Iron Man 3 (2.35).

Yep it's going to pass 200mil this weekend but I still think it's in for another big drop. Two big films are being released this weekend and they could do 120mil combined.
