Days of Future Past 'Days Of Future Past' BOX-OFFICE worldwide prediction - Part 4

There is NO way in hell Maleficent beats XDOFP WW gross. It will beat CAP2 TWS but not XMEN.

And Trans4ormers actually is in great shape to beat Transformers 3 Dark Of The Moon WW gross considering it has yet to open in 7 major makets plus a few more minor ones.
(Japan , Spain, Venezuela,Germany,Brazil,France,Italy etc.)
Mostly thanks to major China expansion.
Funny a blockbuster like this to have bigger numbers in China.
I guess we will see more of that in the coming years as China grows bigger and bigger.

I've yet to see Cloud Atlas, but I want to see it at some point.

Regardless, Halle is still a name.

Not yet seen Extant either, it's only on Amazon Prime which I don't really want to subcribe to. I can't really justify the cost of a subscription.

IIRC you can get a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime and you get free 2-day shipping on all your orders too.

Yes, that's true. I saw that option. But I hate these 'free trials' because they always hook you in with a convoluted cancellation policy. Usually you have to cancel by sending notification by carrier pigeon to Jupiter or something.

I remember how difficult it was to cancel a gym membership (and also to get the cashback deal on my new washing machine). They try to trap you by making you send documentation that they take weeks to acknowledge and process.

I don't think Maleficent will beat XDOFP's WW gross either, tbh. It may come close, maybe even dangerously close, but I don't see it going past it. It's pretty late in the game & it'd have to practically go #1 again to shoot past DOFP.

A lot of the movies in the UK lately have been resorting to tricky shenanigans to make their opening weekends seem much better than they are.

For example, Transformers has the biggest UK opening of the year, just pipping DoFP. However, Transformers had been running for something like 7 days by the time the 'opening' weekend was over. The same happened with Bad Neighbours. The movie started 'previews' on the previous Saturday. On that first weekend of 'previews' (Saturday / Sunday) it was technically the number 1 movie, but those figures weren't included for that weekend's gross, instead rolling into the next weekend with 6 days of previews plus the three day 'opening weekend'.

It's getting a little ridiculous and they should really curb this nonsense.

On another note, does anyone know how the exchange rates affect the reporting of the worldwide gross for movies? For example, the pound is very strong right now, meaning a movie would technically make more dollars. How do they prevent this distorting the figures?

Fox is First Studio to Reach $1 Billion in 2014
Thanks to a strong debut from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 20th Century Fox has became the first studio to pass $1 billion at the domestic box office this year.

The studio crossed the $1 billion mark on Sunday, which was the 194th day of the year. The last time it took this long for a studio to get there was in 2006, when Disney hit that level in 215 days.

Fox's biggest title of the year is also currently the highest-grossing movie of the Summer: through Sunday, X-Men: Days of Future Past has brought in $229.2 million at the domestic box office. While it will likely wind up below X-Men: The Last Stand ($234.4 million), it's still a hefty haul for the 14-year-old franchise.

Fox has also had a big year in animation, though none of the titles performed extraordinarily. DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon 2 has brought in $152.3 million, but is on track to finish over $40 million lower than its predecessor. Meanwhile, fellow DreamWorks Animation movie Mr. Peabody & Sherman is wrapping up with just over $111 million, which is barely higher than notorious DreamWorks flop Rise of the Guardians ($103.4 million). Finally, Rio 2 has retained most of the first Rio's audience, though it's still down a bit to $129.6 million.

The studio has also had two female-skewing movies that have done strong business. Young-adult adaptation The Fault in our Stars has earned $119.6 million so far, while Cameron Diaz comedy The Other Woman has grossed $83.7 million.

The studio hasn't been a slouch overseas, either: their top five titles have combined for over $1.3 billion, and Apes is on track for at least $400 million.

Fox's biggest year ever at the domestic box office was 2010, when their movies earned a combined $1.48 billion (Avatar accounted for over $478 million of that). The studio is virtually guaranteed to surpass that this year.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will likely add another $150 million or so before the end of its run. August's Let's Be Cops and September's The Maze Runner could surprise, while David Fincher's Gone Girl should be a hit when it opens in October. Kingsman: The Secret Service and animated movie The Book of Life are both question marks at this point, though each will make up for any domestic shortfalls with strong overseas numbers.

DreamWorks Animation's The Penguins of Madagascar will be a strong choice for family audiences in November; don't be surprised if this out-grosses How to Train Your Dragon 2. Exodus: Gods and Kings is well-positioned to come close to Noah's $100 million tally, while Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb is also a safe bet for $100 million (though perhaps not during its brief 2014 run).

Ultimately, Fox could wind up with around $1.8 billion at the domestic box office in 2014.

Way to go Fox!

151,000 Monday

180,000 Tuesday

Should make over 1 million this week and will be at 230 million by Friday

Did Overseas closed all markets this Thursday?

Is the final number for OS 502?

If so we lost out on ASM2 504 million and X3 234 million?

Does anyone know?

The daily comparison gap between DoFP and TLS is less than 3 million. Also, the daily takes for DoFP seem to be on average 200% of what TLS made. Given these facts, it might take a few weeks, but DoFP is still in the running to beat it... eventually.

Theater counts dropping heavily tomorrow, down to 387 theaters.

Based on how CAP2 TWS performed i see XMEN-DOFP have a 232.5mil finish domestically unless it loses theaters fast and have a shorter run.

Ouch though I think this film is locked for $233 million. X3 had 232.5 million at this point and it finished with 234 million. Considering Dofp's stronger legs it should be able to get 3.5 million in the next several weeks.

Unfortunately there is a sizeable chance that happens. Maleficent is at 672m WW now, probably has at least 10m left DOM, probably around 30m maybe more in Japan (19.3m total now, estimates have it ending around 50-60m). That will be 712m WW. I suspect the remaining territories could cough up another 20m+ too. Looks to be close, but I'll give the advantage to Maleficent since it's having a good run in Japan thus far, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended closer to the high end (60m). That would be mean a 740m or more finish WW, slightly edging out DOFP.

But honestly, other than Maleficent fans gloating because they beat all the superhero movies this year, it doesn't really matter, since DOFP has hit almost all targets:

1. #1 comic book film
2. 500m OS
3. Outgrossing X3 (not happened yet, but there's a slight chance. If it doesn't get there, it will get very close)
4. Big return for the franchise.

I just can't with Maleficent outgrossing DOFp worldwide too! :( Especially it opened 1 week after DOFP was released. Hopefully it won't outgross it. It should outgross TASM 2/Cap 2 first, so if that happens, we'll see if it will outgross DOFP.

See what happens when you make good movies? Thank GOD Tom Rothman isnt in charge of the movies anymore. Fox has made some great movies the last few years.

Hopefully the Fantastic 4 reboot will turn out to be fantastic.

And btw, Fox is trying to buy Time Warner. If they succeed with that, its going to be really interesting!

I am remaining open minded on FF till I see trailer. That will tell me If it will be good.

If Fox were to buy time warner that would be something.

Didn't Time Warner already turn them down?... they basically give them the professional middle finger.
