He moved on from her by 2x01. They had a whole episode dedicated to him moving on and even had an episode in Season 4 where he was fine not seeing her ever again.
 
In a way, I think the writers would have been better off just not using Laurel at all apart from the 100th (which she had to appear in IMO), and just continuing on without her.
 
Pretty much. Unless they were dedicated to actually giving her some good material, just leave her alone.
 
They seem to struggle with characters, once they have joined the team. That is why I think they wanted to start again and make a new one. They are better at that (ie characters origin stories and journey towards joining the team).
 
Which would be fine if it had nothing to do with taking over the Black Canary title, that was the dumbest piece of writing I had ever seen. Everything Laurel said on her deathbed was cringe worthy. There was not a single good thing about her death.
 
I was talking about the season so far. I have no idea what they plan to do with the BC story in the 2nd half of the season. Of course Laurel fans wont like it. but last time they had a canary that wasn't Laurel, people loved her and wanted them to kill Laurel so there was no threat to her. If they do a good job with the new BC, I am sure most people will like it as they did Sara even though the situations aren't entirely comparable. Laurel and Felicity fans will never be happy, but if the writers can please most fans in general like they have done so far this season, then they are doing a good job.
 
Going through 4 Canaries in 4 years is just bad writing. Leave the mantle buried and let the new character start fresh without that weight.
 
Is Sara as WC the 3rd canary? I don't see how it will be bad writing if it turns out good and people like it. When Oliver dies, someone takes his place as the GA, like we have seen in LOT.
 
No, we've had Canary/Black Canary/Baby Canary. Each one basically nrought about the death of the previous. We saw 1 person take up Olivers mantle, after years upon years of fighting the good fight. So many Canaries in 5 years is just bad writing imo, even if the character succeeds.

They killed Black Canary off to prove a point and shock people, bringing in a new one makes them look stupid for killing off a charater so many people invested time in.

I only saw that episode once, so I may have forgotten something important, but as far as I remember, Evelyn just stole the BC gear and made an outfit to use it to get to Darhk. That is not enough for me to say that she was a Canary, like how I wouldn't call Diggle (in season 1) or Merlyn "Green Arrows" for putting on the outfit for a short-term cause, even though in the end she did decide to not kill in honour of Laurel. She was a copy-cat or wannabe at best IMO. I would not put her alongside Laurel and Sara, she was not on their level. Simply putting on a costume does not make you a hero. Maybe if I watched the episode again, I would change my mind.

Killing Laurel was definitely bad writing, but I will reserve my judgement on whether having a new BC is until I see it.

I don't mean move on romantically, but more so about her death. I haven't seen every episode this season, but it was nauseating how much they've mentioned her in the few times I have watched because it comes off more like they know they messed up and are actually trying to make her death mean something, whereas last season it was just for shock value.

But this season, it seems like he suddenly cares about her again, when last season, you couldn't even say that they were friends.

As much as I hate to say this, because it should not have been done with Laurel, this is actually a fairly realistic storyline if you're right, and one Arrow has not really done yet. Because I'm sure it happens often in real life, that one person doesn't realize that they have feelings for another person until Person #2 is gone. Of course Oliver previously had feelings for Laurel (that he gave up on around S3), but he's realizing that he still had them. And now he has to deal with that without being able to act on them. It would really be a heartbreaking and effective story if it weren't for them stupidly killing off Laurel in the first place.

I mean, I feel like its very telling that in a world where everything was perfect, Oliver was put in a life where he is set to marry Laurel. Romantically speaking, it seems like they're trying to hint that there were unknown feelings inside him, which would be a nice way to go given how things have turned out.

The problem is, and it's very big, is that it really started with Laurel's confession, which made absolutely no sense, especially considering that she brushed past it to tell Oliver to keep going after Felicity. So the whole thing just reeks of "fan service" in the sense that they forced it in a situation that it didn't belong in.

You can't go two seasons of showing the two at odds with one another, with barely any signs of friendship outside of reluctantly working together as vigilantes, only to introduce a romance sub-plot at the very last minute for dramatic effect.
 
Like Slade, Oliver and Laurel are shy about their feelings and keep them to themselves until it is too late :cwink:.
 
Was not happy when the killed off Laurel. Would be ok with the "new" Laurel being Black Siren. Maybe, seeing Oliver and her father or Flashpoint could make her good. Also, she has the natural canary cry...no need for a device.

This!

If she turns out not to be the real Laurel, then this is the only way I'll continue watch Arrow, and it would have to be a redemption plot.

And I can see a person burying their feelings for someone, especially if they did so much to hurt that person. Cheating on her and making moves on her sister despite how Oliver felt about her, may have made him feel like it was over and there was no way to go forward with Laurel from long before he returned from 'the island.'

He'd also be harboring guilt about Sara's death, which would help to make him keep his distance from Laurel.

There is a lot of heavy baggage there to overcome and mask how a person feels, but I'm hoping seeing Laurel again in the dream and the life they might have had is enough to get Oliver back onto the comic-track. If that was indeed Laurel...

I think the best storyline for Siren would be a "merging of the minds" and have her trying to fight against her memories of E1 Laurel. But I doubt they went there or would be able to write a decent storyline around it. I mean it would've been perfect to have DD be the one to bring Sara back to life but we saw what they did there.

It is interesting, Black Siren was the only known E2 person on E1 when Flashpoint went down. I wonder if that had an effect on her.
 
I know this is a bit of a stretch, but a possible reason why the real Laurel would be back. First of all, we know that there are multiple Lazarus Pits, and Talia was recently cast. Could there be a connection between Laurel's return and Talia Al Ghul? After all Laurel is her sister's lover's sister.
 
I just dont see them going down that route with everything we know. If Laurel was truly back, her appearing in 1 episode then disappearing again long term would be weird. Not to mention then Oliver and co. wouldnt have to travelling to look for Laurels replacement.
 
Are they really looking for BCs replacement, or with this new Canary just fall into the roll for a short duration? Gotta agree, the duration for the Black Canarys is pretty short.
 
We know they go on a boys trip and "Tina" will be there. Add to the speculation that they may make her last name Drake (Dinah Drake OG Canary) and we have the makings of Black Canary 3.5
