Fantasy Disney Developing Live-Action 'Snow White' (Exclusive)

Once upon a time season 1 is the best Snow White out of all those.

I still haven't seen Mirror, Mirror. The 2 Huntsman movies were visually striking with a dull story. I've seen every episode of Once Upon a Time, and it really overstayed its welcome. The first season was amazing though. They made it like Lost but with fairy tale characters in a small town.

I'm waiting for the new one to hit Disney+. I can't bother to watch these remakes in cinemas anymore, unless they get amazing reviews. I think regardless of the quality/reviews/box office numbers, this was eventually gonna get made and was just something to tick off from their "remake candidates" list. So Tangled, you're next! (after Lilo/Stitch and Moana).

Frankly, a lot of stuff from this movie seems to borrow from Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror, Mirror since those were already more fleshed-out versions of the fairy tale. Case in point, the Evil Queen being a sorceress and her life force or powers are connected to the magic mirror. Evil Queen being a tyrannical monarch and creating dissidents and a resistance movement against her is kind of like Mirror, Mirror. Plus the Seven Dwarfs are Seven Bandits, even though there is a group of Seven Bandits and Seven Dwarfs who are separate here.

To me, the problem with the remakes is they are bland, flaccid, and tepid. They have no vibrancy or warmth to them. They don't incite emotions. I think a good example of this is in the Little Mermaid, everything is so bland and lifeless. Javier Bardem is so low energy as King Triton. He looks bored most of the time. Under the Sea's lyrics don't really match what's happening onscreen anymore. Also, remember Kiss the Girl? That number is great because Sebastian and the gang are bringing the whole lagoon to life and the whole forest is coming alive and singing in a chorus and cheering on Eric and Ariel. In the live-action version, it's just Sebastian, Scuttle, and Flounder, and it's just so boring. The lagoon doesn't come alive and really get you into the spirit of the music.

It's so romantic and lovely. You've got the whole animal kingdom getting into the spirit of the moment. The imagery makes you really feel the romance in the air. It's beautiful.

Comparatively, the live-action version feels so lifeless and neutered. Plus you have to deal with Awkwafina's awful singing interrupting the moment. And it's kind of like this all across the board in the Disney remakes.

I got to give that show credit how much it mashed up so many Disney-inspired IPs and fairy tales together.

Disagree about Kiss the girl. Sure the animated version has a bigger chorus and like you said brings the “whole lagoon to life” but I love the more intimate version in the live action too. Awkwafina interrupting for one brief moment is equal to animated scuttle doing his squalling in the middle of the song too.

Honestly as blasphemous as it may be I liked Live action TLM about as much as animated TLM. Do wish they had animated the animals more like how the animals are animated in Snow White tho.

Yeah, but the other animals are trapping his beak and basically telling him to shut up and stop spoiling the moment. It's character-based and situational-based humor. And then we are later forced to endure a whole song from Scuttle later that doesn't fit in with the tone of the original songs or story at all.

Much like none of the songs in Snow White sound like Disney Snow White songs. It's songs from the guys who did Dear Evan Hansen.

Yes and Sebastian tells her “to pull it back”…

It worked in all the showings I saw the film in as people chuckled.

If only they put some effort into explaining why the Evil Queen stuff in this film. Its like Disney doesnt know how to make a well rounded villain. Either they have to become heroic and in the right or they just have to be evil with no real backstory or anything. At least Cinderella did a great job of fleshing out Lady Tremaine from what I remember.

Oh I wish they hadn’t done Maleficent already as I’d like to see what Jac Schaeffer could do with that character after Agatha All Along.

She seemed like some ancient evil sorceress who made a Faustian pact with the Magic Mirror and it betrayed her at the end to take her life.

The big issue with Aladdin is that you had two people who could have easily carried the mantle Robin Williams left behind in the forms of Jim Carrey and Eddie Murphy, both great comedians who are as cartoony as possible.

And they still chose Will Smith. I get they didn't want a repeat of Williams but Carrey and Murphy aren't like Williams; they just have the cartoony energy needed for the role but could still bring something new.

The media appears to be blaming Rachel Zegler and her Palestine comments causing the less than stellar box office. 🙄
Of course.
Rachel Zegler is pretty much getting the Brie Larson Treatment right now sadly.
Two Women who didnt say anything wrong factual on the topics they adressed, getting bullied and harrassed by not only grifters and incels, also the Media.

But do both of them still have that cartoony energy?
Havent watched a recent Jim Carrey movie, but Murphy didnt felt as energetic to me in the new Beverly Hills Cop movie.

But i guess they still would have offered more cartoony energy than Will Smith, who wasnt particular bad, but also not really the highlight.

Jim Carrey definitely does, look at Sonic 3. I don't know if Carrey playing the Genie would've worked though. Nothing about live-action Genie worked for me.

The only thing Zegler said during the press tour that I thought was slightly iffy was that all of Andrew Burnap's scenes could be cut: "It's Hollywood, baby!" But at the same time, she's a 20-21 year old kid just starting on the big stage in the movie business. I think she deserves from slack for saying goofy stuff. If I was in a similar position I would probably say opinionated things as well. Not with malicious intent or anything, but I'm sure if I was young and thrust into the spotlight, I would make mistakes.

Will Smith wasn't a bad choice for the Genie. A charismatic A-lister who's had plenty of box office success in his career. But I don't think they were looking for cartoony energy. Not a single one of these remakes have replicated that slapstick aspect from the original films but it looks like Stitch himself might be the one exception in the upcoming Lilo & Stitch remake.

When a movie is horrible, Nobody seems to question it. So why do we ask questions if a movie turns out to be, GOOD?
Huh? People question how movies turn out horribly all the time, especially on the internet.

That first sentence was SO SHADY. Didn't know you had it in ya

Eh, even if Ziegler was right about the original Snow White story being iffy, I did cringe for her when she brought it up, cause I knew they was going to cling to that and not let it go. She also had another iffy moment/comment when she stated that she took her Shazam 2 role cause of a payday. She is still young, but her PR team was working overtime. Lol

Lol yeah thats all stuff you save into you're well into your career. Lets not forget how Heigl was dragged for calling out Greys Anatomy writers for having her have fever sex with a ghost.

Sadly, I don’t see her leading another big ten tole flick, unless that is packed with A list around her and behind the camera.
