Disney's live-action Pinocchio

I'm getting RDJ Dolittle vibes from this.

The CGI looks like ass too. And why is the fairy bald?

Having seen Doolittle, dude this ain't it. At least this movie won't involve someone shoving their arm up a dragon's butt.

When I saw the ratio on the trailer, I thought I was in for something really bad, but I liked it. Looks like Pinocchio, and a lot of fun. Kids are going to love it.

That said, the ratio probably has a lot to do with a black person having the gull to show up in a film.

Because the actress is bald?

So when are we getting a team-up movie? Would love to see Pinocchio and Dumbo take on Ursula

Well, it doesn’t mean the actress plays only bald characters.

I assume it was just an artistic choice to give the fairy an otherworldly quality.

Cynthia Erivo keeps her hair short. It wouldn’t look right if she was wearing a blonde wig styled like the original film.

The Pinnochio remake… pass. I wasn’t a fan of the original to begin with (Pleasure Island sequence still gives me nightmares) and this looks like a slavish remake with a few new wrinkles a la BATB ‘17.

I wish Disney would focus on adapting more fairy tales and folklore into animation. There’s a trove of unadapted stuff (like from Grimms) that can be expanded into feature length. I’m sick of them adapting their animated classics into inferior live action fare.

We all know why it's getting downvoted... I'm sure there will be tons of videos about this all week on how Pinocchio is now "ruined."

Also I noticed how they left out Aladdin in the beginning with the "from the studio that brought you..." Guess they really don't want you thinking about Will Smith's connection with Disney.

I think it looks good. Surprised they didn't take this to theaters, especially with Tom Hanks, but whatever.

Of course the usual suspects will have something to say about Cynthia Erivo, but what else is new.

Erivo looks and sounds amazing as the Blue Fairy, but her character got like two scenes in the 1940 film. Rather a thankless role for a lot of actresses.

I might check this out for her alone, as well as how Lorraine Bracco's seagull plays a role in this.

The animal cgi and their activities and Hanks role in this doesn't look much better. And its concerning that the focus is so heavily on Hanks, thr cricket, and the animals.

She's playing a character. Not herself. Put a wig on her or cast someone with hair.

They could have went with a darker hair color. Or went with a pearl white, silver, or even blue. She's pretty much uniformly blue and covered in cgi, anyways.

Pleasure Island left some scars on me. Even as an adult I dont like watching the original.

Wasn’t this movie made for streaming? Same with Chip n’ Dale? Soul, Luca, and Turning Red were made for theaters and then put on streaming at the last minute (which I agree was unfair). But I do think that there should be movies intended for streaming (and hopefully good).

It was. But I still think that there's enough interest to justify a theatrical release.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Pinnochio is one of my favorite Disney films and might be the easiest to translate to live-action from those of that era (the likes of Bambi and Fantasia sure can't be). The trailer looks like it does a good job of capturing the zaniness of the original.

However, Disney has a bad track record with these adaptations (Chip n Dale broke that trend, but is nothing like the original so isn't a great comparison) so I'm always going to be hesitant. I'll give a shot though when it comes out.

I do wonder if they will change the fate of the Coachman. He was basically the one Disney villain that I know of that wins and gets away with everything. It really kind of sticks out like a sore thumb in their lineup. So it will be interesting to see if they give him some comeuppance here.

I'm not so sure. It is a short role, but a pretty memorable one. A lot like the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella who was in ONE scene, but is maybe the most popular character from the movie (aside from perhaps Lady Tremaine).

Just basing on the trailer, the effect seems to work to me. The original did this by having her be the only rotoscoped character in the film, but obviously that isn't an option in live action.

Don't know why they made this a streaming-only release. I'll probably watch it when I'm visiting family. But while Hanks is a perfect Gepetto, GDT's version is the only Pinocchio I'm interested in this year.

I will say it's nice to get a Blue Fairy that looks more like traditional otherworldly depictions and not the stereotypical Disney-fied blonde white lady take.

You are getting dangerously close to defining how a black woman should look to please your view on a character whose hair is 100% meaningless. So maybe just don't.

…and you’re probably searching for something, what you wish to find
Btw I think she looks good.

I prefer good movies skip theater direct to streaming than mediocre movies (like almost every netflix movie)

Tell me what I'm "looking for".

racism where there isn’t racism.
It’s just about haircuts - it’s nothing what you defined as “dangerously close to defining how a black woman should look“

Could be fun for newer generations, but just why do they make this?

1 Reason: Money.

This trailer isnt interesting at all.

Disney is just only making stuff now purely for the money.

Isn’t that the number one reason to make anything?
