Also, assuming everyone in the current list is going to participate, I'm locking us down to 12 teams.

If more want to join, just have them follow along as 'alternates'. That way, if someone needs to drop out, they can take over their team.

A while ago. You must have thought it was Leaguer posting, and ignored it.

And he must have thought it was you posting, and done the same.

If you want to use a split list, that's fine. I'll just use it as one list, going down the ubers, them meds, then regs. (If that's the order they're in.)
We'll confer and then resubmit. :whatever:

*left eye twiches*

Ok...

Just make the list as long as you can with the ones you want most at the top. After that, just copy and paste in a bunch of filler characters from the old Update thread. That way you won't run out and risk being shorthanded.

Locations Locations Locations?????

Raccoon City amidst the zombie infestation (this would be best for the regs only line up i think cos theyre more likely to get turned and that could be cool)

Antarctica during the predator vs alien battle

Any Star Wars location

waterloo 1066

hogwarts whilst Harry is in lesson (so someone can sneak up on him and pop him one in the back of the head....i nominate Deadpool....LV its all yours)

hoover dam and las vegas (during autobots and deceptacons battle)

san andreas during an earthquake (could be good to see people having their heroes saving people)

ok im out of ideas for now....

Well, just to let people know, Ahura hasn't actually gotten back to me about his strategy/list ideas, so I'm sorta in limbo. I'm gonna go back to working on my solo list just in case...

Can I make a suggestion regarding locations? Let's keep most of them pretty basic. I mean, in the past we've included some really out there locations, where a large chunk of the writeup ends up being just how you're dealing with the fact that the whole battlefield is under water or getting bombed or whatever. But to me that makes the battlefield more like a theme week, when really it ought to be just a little flavor and a common starting point for the writeups. Especially if we're trying to keep the writeups short and make it mostly about combat strategy, I don't think we should be having to spend a chunk of our writeups explaining why the battlefield doesn't instantly kill our characters, or writing about how we deal with other random characters running around.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with repeating battlefields we've done from previous seasons, or doing a couple of similar battlefields in the course of the season. I'd say most of them should be fairly generic -- maybe a few cities (e.g. New York, Metropolis, Gotham), a jungle environment (e.g., the Savage Land), a space station or moonbase (Asteroid M, JLA Watchtower, etc.), an underground environment (the Batcave), etc. We've done most of those before, but who cares? They're good simple environments where every character has a reasonable chance to operate. Plus, we don't have to waste a ton of time each week researching the battlefield -- even if you know nothing about the Watchtower or the Savage Land, you can understand "It's a high-tech tower on the moon" or "It's a jungle with dinosaurs" and be good to go.

If the battlefield can't be adequately summed up in a sentence or two, or if it forces us to jump through a lot of hoops to make our characters functional, then I say don't use it.

there go my locations lol.....nah i see your point tim....

but i personally like busy locations.....especially the idea of a zombie infested racoon city and just our regs to fight em off.....that would be sweet....IMO anyway

In particular, I'm opposed to doing a lot of "We're in the middle of a war" battlefields with tons of random characters running around. Let's keep the focus on My Team vs. Your Team, not my team and your team vs. Darth Vader, Sauron, George Bush and the cast of Friends.

To add to my above suggestions: how about a medieval setting? I'd also kind of enjoy an ultra-minimalist environment (Great Plains?), but maybe that's just me.

i got a wierd suggestion....this could work or maybe it couldnt but it could kind of join onto tim's medieval theme, but how about a powerless theme?

so basically any powers are gone.....the ability to fight such as martial arts etc can remain cos theyre still powers but any characters with powers like super human strength, flight, telepathy etc are turned mortal for a battle.....it then atleast means anyone whose chosen powered characters for their whole team have to stratergise using just fighting etc....

just an idea but i think it could be interesting...

New here. So I got invited by Aza. I'm Ellusionist on the Herochat boards. I'll be back, though.

Regarding locations: I personally love the locations where a lot of junk is happening around your characters. But I see Tim's point, especially if we're supposed to be going for shorter, focused write-ups. All of the other, location-specific things are just distractions, really. I'd say keep all of the locations basic and empty for the regular matches, but all bets are off for the playoffs.

I really like the idea of a zombie-infested location.

I like that theme. It's kind of similar to the regs only theme, but I'd prefer no powers.

See, I'm just the opposite. I think regs-only would be great -- really give the lower level guys a chance to shine. But no powers I don't like, for two reasons:

(1) It unfairly favors the people who happen to have chosen a martial-artist heavy team. I mean, if you're regs are Quicksilver and the Human Torch, they're just ordinary guys, but if they're Captain America and Batman they're suddenly two of the top guys in the league.

(2) How would it even work? I mean, is a "powerless" Thanos strong enough to knock out a "powerless" Juggernaut? Who the hell knows? And what if one of your guys is a robot or something? Seems like it would just lead to endless debates on how powerful the de-powered guys are.

Geez, I'm like the anti-Nightwing! ;)

I figured "powerless" meant they'd all be reduced to unpowered humans. Even the robots. Maybe it should be "human week" rather than "no powers week."

Yeah, but Mike Tyson and I are both "unpowered humans", and only one of use could knock the other out with one punch. You can say Spider-Man is as strong as Peter Parker, and the Thing is as strong as Ben Grimm, but how strong is Thanos or the Vision given that they've never been "ordinary humans".

I consider that the lesser of my objections, though. The main thing is I don't think it's fair to drastically inflate the characters who aren't reliant on powers (because they use guns or martial arts or whatever) at the expense of everyone else. I'm drafting my team on the basis of how their powers work together. Without their powers, they (A) aren't the characters I drafted, and (B) suck.

Its a superhero league. Making them fight without powers is like making my fantasy football team compete in a round of golf.

And making them fight with only regs is like making a synchronized swimming team compete only with one-legged swimmers. :cmad:

Whatever, you're right. There's no way to gauge who'd be stronger than whom without powers and, given how hard it is to gauge who'd be stronger than whom with powers, the debates would just go on forever. Regs only is the closest we'll ever get.

I've got no problem with an All Regs week. But I'm not feeling No Powers.

Heh. We should have an all Middleweights week since they get no love.
