It would be great if some could vote for the final match of the contest of Marvels thread given we only have 3 votes so far...

Sorry to post this here :o

Yeah, that'd be interesting.

Do we have any idea when we need our draft lists in by?

I sent pm's to Kaboom and Liquid Green because they're the only two that haven't been active lately. I haven't heard back from either of them.

Is it possible to resubmit draft lists while you're waiting? I was going to retool mine and Leaguer's tonight.

See Fantomex's post?

He's planning on participating.

I thought I saw Amazo and C-Man on the too uber list?

im a happy bunny today (totally off subject but hey...) ive got my xbox 360 yesterday and i been playing halo 3 all day.....anyone else got it?

also does anyone know what devices are compatible with xbox live?my BT home hub isnt working for all mulitplayer games......(again random and off topic but you ask in any other thread and you dont get much of a response)

Are power copiers banned?
Not universally. I'm pretty sure everyone who can copy unlimited numbers of powers and keep them indefinitely would be considered too uber. Amazo, Composite Man, and Super Adaptoid have all been ruled too uber.

Exiles Mimic is allowed as a medium, since he only copies up to five powers and his starting powers are all reg-level (even Colossus power might be reg since Mimic only gets it at 50% strength). 616 Mimic is allowed as an uber, since he starts with Jean Grey's power. So far as I know Paragon is still allowed as an uber even though he can copy unlimited powers, since he has no starting powers and he loses any copied powers if you go out of range (plus he can't copy androids, weapons, tech, etc.)

Every power copiers copied powers were lost by the next round, just like memories are wiped.

So the unlimited powers bit would be null and void, correct?

*Dramatic Entrance*

Howdy. As soon as I figure out what the hell's going, steal me an avi and make me a sig, I'm in.

Yeah, everyone goes back to their default powerset after each battle (e.g., 616 Mimic reverts to the powers of the original X-Men). I guess the main problem with guys who keep powers forever is they tend to start the battle with a million powers. E.g. the complete powers of the Avengers, or the Legion of Superheroes, or whoever. Mimic keeps powers forever, but because he's limited in number he only has five fairly modest powers. Rogue can in principal keep powers forever, but almost all versions of her only have one person's powers (Ms. Marvel, or Sunfire, or Thor in that What If?) -- and the one version I know of that permanently had a lot of powers is too uber.

Anyway, I guess the general rule is that power copiers with a ton of starting powers are out. Not that this is an official rule per se, it's just kind of the way things worked out when we lowered the uber bar after season 2.

I'm not sure how people would feel about, say Composite Man w/ no starting powers (except those common to his species, of course).

Fantomex and False Profit:
You might want to send a private message to wiegeabo (the league commisioner) to make sure he knows you're interested in participating.

I am willing to take Composite Man with no starting powers except those he gets in combat.

Why in gods name is Rogue with a bunch of powers too uber? Just how many did she have?

If I remember right, she briefly had the ability to recall any power she'd ever borrowed on command. I think this was during Claremont's god-awful X-Treme X-Men.

Although on second thought, I might be wrong about that version having been officially ruled too uber. The list says Imperiatrix/Rogue, which I'm guessing means Rogue possessed by the Brood Queen.

Proposed Rules Change
I've been thinking about it, and I think we ought to change the rules so that our characters all get a very brief description of the opposing team's powers before the fight.

The point is to eliminate the ridiculous advantage some characters have because no one knows who they are. Take Paragon: he had only a single Pre-crisis appearance, so probably wouldn't be recognized by even most DC characters. He can probably take down half your team before you realize that his power is to copy your guys powers at an amplified level. Or what about Jesse Custer? Again, no one will know him, and without knowing what he can do you pretty much have to let him get a free hit on one of your guys -- and if he says "Attack your own team", you're going to spend the rest of the fight at a 6-4 disadvantage.

Obviously the argument against this proposal is that it removes some of the incentive to pick characters with varied knowledge (a mix of Marvel and DC, etc.) But if we keep the descriptions of powers very brief, having that extra knowledge would still be extremely valuable.

Example:
For Superman, it would say "super-strength, super-speed, durability, flight". It wouldn't tell you how fast or strong he is (e.g., Rogue would have virtually the same description). And it definitely wouldn't tell you he's weak against Kryptonite, or vulnerable to magic, or that he's powered by the sun, or that he won't want to kill his opponents, etc. So being familiar with the character still makes a huge difference.

For Paragon, it would say "Duplicates powers and abilities". It wouldn't spell out all his weaknesses (range limit, can't copy weapons or tech), but it would still be enough to give your guys the idea not to send your best uber charging in to face him.

For Jesse Custer, it would say something like "unbreakable commands". Again, it wouldn't tell you all the details of how his power works and how it can be thwarted, but at least your guys wouldn't just have to walk blindly into it.

So the general idea is all your guys get a vague idea what the opposing team can do, without knowing the details or any specific weaknesses or vulnerabilities.

I think that's a good idea in theory, but I see it leading to a lot of those long debates we all love so much.

"You gave too much of a description of my characters' powers!"
"Nuh-uh!"
"You said he could fly 'at the speed of sound'!"
"So?"
"So that's too specific!"
"Blah!"
"Blah blah!"

Well I figured the general rule would be "name the powers, but not the degree of power" -- e.g., flight is flight, strength is strength, speed is speed, etc., but with no modifiers. (I guess you could say "super", as in "super speed", but that just means "better than a normal human")

More complicated powers are summed up in the simplest way possible (e.g., Hourman's time manipulation is just "time manipulation", with no specific examples). Non superhuman powers wouldn't be listed at all (e.g., Captain America or Batman would be blank).

Under no circumstances would it list specific weaknesses or limitations.

Yeah, it could lead to more debates, but on the whole I don't think these guidelines would be too hard to follow. And ultimately the voters can just decide who's right in any debate.
