Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 1

Have you watched Avatar recently? It looks like a cartoon. If people liked that movie and expect this to fail because of it's CG, they must be confused.

The sad thing is there were plenty of reasons to want Fant4stic to fail.

1. The studio having a bad track record with the property
2. Wanting the rights to revert to marvel
3. Not liking the cast/crew involved
4. preferring the tim story cast/aesthetic
5. not liking reboots or the concept of reboots

But why do people want this to fail?? Warcraft is the first and only honest shot that fans of the series may ever have at getting a live action theatrical release of this franchise. It's, in many ways, one of the few high fantasy properties that might ever have a chance to thrive on the big screen. And for that matter video game adaptations.

There are so many reasons nerds should want this movie to succeed. I won't be so quick to write it off.

Say whatever you want about Avatar, but visualy it was very impressive, been 6 years since and not many films have come close.

Well, it probably has been said but the CGI is bad. It just looks way off.
I know it is hard to do CGI humanoid characters but it can be done.

I just can not see this doing well.

The scope of how much CG was in that movie combined with it's emotional resonance, was indeed impressive. But I stand by what i said, watching it today, in a 2D home theater environment, looks like i'm watching a cartoon. Granted, a really well animated cartoon (think Final Fantasy Spirits Within). But a cartoon nonetheless. Bear in mind, i dont use that as a direct insult. I love and respect cartoons even in my adulthood.

I think since Rise and Dawn of the planet of the apes, mocap and realism in animation has improved leaps and bounds. Caesar and Koba don't look like cartoons. They look like real apes in a real world.

Will that translate to this film or future Avatar films? Possibly. But we'll have to wait and see.

Does anyone want it to fail though? I know I don't. Some people don't like what the trailer has shown, myself included but I don't want it to fail. I'd love for it to be a smash hit and really surprise me. It just seems to be going in the opposite direction. Callin it as I see it

I literally haven't seen anybody in this thread hoping it turns out bad. Just a lot of people being disappointed in what we've just seen and are hoping there's more to it than that.

People wanted fant4stic to fail. And homeboy said this is just like that.

Nah I don't think any sane person wants this to fail. I think there's some dissapoinent or skepticism unless they're a bunch of loons.

Watchmen and District 9 looked better from the same year.

i think the cgi is actually pretty impressive..

imo the problem is that designs from a game not necessarily translate to the silver screen.. it looks very cartoony as some people already pointed out..

furthermore I read they only had like 3 days of locationshoots.. thats not good in my book.. cgi is good thesedays but you can still always see the difference which takes me out of the movie..

They should've gone animated then, it's the humans that look out of place after all

Yeah, the one qualm I've found so far that is sort of nitpicky is the human armor.

Lothar's shoulders are very WoW. Unfortunately not very aesthetically appealing in live action.

Although not unreasonablly so.

So is this a well conceived trailer for Warcraft?

It certainly gets more of the story and concepts across.

I know little about WOW. I think it looks really generic in its execution. The concept is interesting enough.

I have to agree with notion that SW TFO trailers are made for people already familiar with the old trilogy.

WarCraft trailer maybe tried to speak to general audience but the result was too generic imo, which is a shame. They should have dug deeper into the lore and bring some more interesting stuff. The "everything was ok, now something dark is coming, I CAN FEEL IT" stuff was just too bland. Enemies that need to work together sounds somewhat familiar too... Man, I hope the next trailer is going to bring some truly awesome stuff to keep me hyped.

My problem with the armor is that it looks cheap. Like a (decently made) cosplay, instead of a beautifully and masterfully crafted armor. There is a ton of little things they could have done that would have vastly improved the look of the armor, but its like they stopped half way through and said "good enough".

This is something I can agree with. But in all honesty, in a fantasy setting, we can't possibly know what their metals/crafting efficiency is like. Maybe they can make armor light (in both look and feel) and durable without it looking the way we know "quality" armor to look.

Watched a trailer breakdown and they ran down so many things I missed when I first saw the trailer. It's crazy how faithful to the world they're being...yeah the timeline seems a bit off but other than that...beyond excited.

...I'll actually be upset if I dont see a Murloc...:sly:

Full cgi will make this look like the Beowulf movie.
Not if the humans are as cartoonishly exaggerated as the orcs. Which would basically make this movie a big-budget game cinematic... and I'd be perfectly ok with that. :o

So excited for this. The trailer was kinda generic, especially with dialogue, but they obviously have tons of more stuff to show. Really love the games and the world, there's so much good stuff to adapt.
