Over $100 million tells me it's over $100 million.
Even if it's a cent over that amount that fact remains.
That means it isn't $100m. :funny:

They won't say how much this cost, because they are worried it is going to bomb. That doesn't mean it will, but after Pacific Rim, they ain't saying anything. Which is why all we get is over 100m and that the budget is 9 figures.

It didn't bomb but it underperformed like hell.

Was PRim a bomb?
It bombed until China "saved" it, but not really. The Chinese numbers made it look respectable, but they lost money on Pacific Rim, which is why WB passed on the sequel.

And I love Pacific Rim. I'd love to say it was a success. But it wasn't.

Did your eally need to bring back your conspiracy theory? The budget has already been discussed in interviews, they don't have anything to hide.

Sheesh. This is literally the only platform i've ever seen anyone discuss the budget with such skeptimism.

This has had bomb written all over it from the beginning. There is no core audience and those trailers I've been forced to endure while seeing other films....woof. NO appeal whatsoever unless you're really into the games, which is an extremely limited segment of the population.

I have no idea why this was made, but since it was, I have no idea why they're marketing it as the most generic fantasy action film ever.

World of Warcraft had 12 million subscribers at it's peak. You're telling me noone of those 12 million players aren't interested in this movie?

Also if I really wanted to reach for something, what about 20 million people who play Heartstone?

Again guy watch the clips. They may change your mind, even if it's a smidge.

That's never a strong case considering how many films about extremely popular video games have flopped. A video game is a video game and a movie is a movie and each medium has to be sold on its own merits. We all know by now that video games don't always make good movies and movies don't always make good video games.

A niche audience can carry a smaller film to success, but big budget blockbuster needs to get the general population into the seats. I could be wrong, but I fail to see how the marketing for this is going to have people rushing to the theater. It doesn't even look visually appealing to the masses.

It's the clips that are really giving me hope for this film. The trailers were poor, but the clips look better and better, and now this bit, from what I suppose is a Con in Moscow, looks pretty damn fantastic:

Wow! It really looks fantastic!

there are many many Really ******** Comic Book movies Out there too and nobody has said the Genre is Cursed , and the reason why the Game Movies where **** is Because some Idiots has sell the Rights to another Horse**** people Uwe Boll and Paul WS Anderson http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0027271?ref_=tt_ov_dr

Maybe they're taking an experiment. Mild budget and and giant fan base. At the very least - they don't lose money. But if the film is good and appreciated by GA as well, it's a start to a new franchise. And, hopefully, a cinematic universe.

Not to mention Duncan Jones himself has done a fantastic job selling the movie to gamers. He's done plenty of interviews to gaming websites such as Gameinformer, he's been to PAX and Blizzcons, etc.

+ the movie is being released early in some countries, so the potential WoM + reviews can help the skeptics out there, but I still do think the WoW players alone will have a good kick off.

The strange thing is, I criticised the trailers but when I actually saw the trailer in a cinema two days ago it nearly moved me to tears how awesome it felt... true story bro.

Dunno how to explain that. I thought it looked just good on monitor, but in cinema it moved me so much. Maybe because it was part of my childhood coming to life on the big screen, but man, it was so enchanting and so emotional to watch it. Seeing this film is so near and the simple fact that it actually exists made me so happy.

No kidding.
In bold ESTIMATE. If $150 mil is a hunch so be it.

Didn't see it nor in front of BvS, not in front of CW in my theater. Trailers did terrible job at selling the film, but recent clips, that are more substantial, really did that. I was going to watch the film anyway, regardless of it's quality and promo campaign, but still... And yeah, a really special feeling seeing all these character come to life. As a kid you go about nearly everything you enjoyed - I wish they made a film out of it. Well, here you go. It took only 20 years.

Trailers and good t.v spots are what sells movies not clips. They need to cut a good trailer and have good t.v spots.

Yep. China made Pacific Rim's numbers look okay but if the film had made money WB would have given the sequel a shot.

Warcraft players still isn't enough to make this movie successful. What makes everyone so sure they want to see it? Maybe they'd rather just play the game.

i'm very excited for this movie i feel this will surprise alot of people

Because many here actually know what they are talking about. But I looked. Can you provide some links that confirms the budget? You said it has been discussed in interviews, but I couldn't find anything on the trades and even Mojo doesn't have it listed and they are almost always willing to post it when it is "confirmed".

I liked a couple of the clips. I still think this movie is in trouble if it doesn't get great reviews. The studio is apparently worried about this film. Confirmed by the trades. So they are worried about it bombing.

And what if the reviews are not good?

Something some are not considering here. This movie is opening up against two films which are sequels to well liked films in The Conjuring 2 and Now You See Me 2.

An estimate from last month.

Pacific Rim 2 is like Galavant season 2. Don't expect it, but if they surprise me, I won't mind.

I don't think clips will save the movie. Or even great reviews. The marketing has done a terrible job of building interest, and the trailers have not helped. And it's release date will be absolutely brutal.

Good reviews and WOM only got Fury Road so far.
