Age of Ultron Early Avengers 2 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 2

My predicted top 4:

1. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens- $1.8 B
2. Jurassic World- $1.68 B
3. Furious 7- $1.511 B
4. Avengers: Age of Ultron- $1.42 B

I think you may be right, although I think AoU may settle at $1.4bn.

IF the Terminator movie gets very good reviews I think it could challenge AoU for the number 4 spot. I saw the original movie at a special screening this week and the cinema was packed. There's still a lot of love for this franchise.

Terminator is not making that kind of money.

So JW is already 11th highest grossing movie now. Will it overtake AOU? Will it catch up with FF7? Skyfall is now just outside the top 10. ET is soon going to be outside the top 50. :(

JW is guaranteed to make at least 1,50-1,55 bil WW.

it will overtake Avengers 1,52 bil for sure and get the n3 spot of all time.

its very possible it finishes with around 1,65 bil WW.

as far as Terminator there is no way it comes anywhere near Iron Man 3 for that matter.

maybe it has some chance for 1 bil WW.

JW is at $1.24 billion. It will pass AOU pretty quickly. It also broke another Avengers record in it's wake. The fastest to 500 million domestic in 17 days to 23 for Avengers.

No way Terminator makes a billion.

With the terrible reviews th ed studio should be happy with half that.

I didn't know Terminator wasn't getting bad reviews but it isn't that surprising. It looks pretty awful.

Unfortunately not surprising. At least JW has made a comeback but Terminator seems to be digging the ditch deeper. :csad:

Terminator is not making that kind of money.

I remember many saying the same about Jurassic World at the beginning of this year, and that AoU was going to be the highest grossing movie of 2015 and challenge Titanic. :yay:

But the reviews for Terminator don't sound promising!

I am enjoying all the box office surprises that 2015 has provided so far and hope we get more in the second half of the year.

Not all Terminator genisys reviews are bad some are meh and some ok.

It sitting on 38% on RT and Tarnsformers 4 didnt have better reviews or RT score either.

Even if it does 125-175 mil US it can still pull 500+ OS.

Plus JW reviews werent stellar either.

edit
(omg the RT score is now at 22%)

Jurassic World is the 8th highest now, having displaced Iron Man 3. It is just behind Frozen.

I think Star Wars is going to sweep in at the end of the year though. Not sure which spot it will take, but certainly at least the number 3.

Jurassic Park is pretty impressive though. After 22 years, it is still within the top 20.

Well it's about due now. He should do it now. It sounds horrible but yet good at the same time. Can't help but hope it gets made. I guarantee you Spielberg has a script laying around somewhere for it. Speaking of Spielberg, wouldn't it be great if he made a F4 film? I know it would never happen but it would be amazing.

Spielberg's F4 would be awesome but I agree it wouldn't happen. He would certainly capture the tone and spirit of the comic though.

And ET was in the Phantom Menace. :p

People are expecting too much from Star Wars, it doesn't have the overseas pull like Jurrasic Park or even Marvel movies

It didn't but it might get that. The last one was released ages ago and was decent overseas for its time. And Marvel wasn't that big overseas when they first started out.

Just what I think
I live in India and there is a huge fan base for Marvel movies, the Fast and Furious film series and Transformers etc, but I have never met an Indian who is a fan or Star Wars or Star Trek

Its different with Marvel, they have release like 12 movies in the past 7 years and built up their fan base

Jurassic Park 3 made only 187 m overseas and Jurassic World will easily quadruple that.

So we have no idea how overseas audiences will respond towards SW7. If it's really good, then sky's the limit.

Makes sense. The big franchises that have been out of the public eye for a while like Star Wars need to make an effort to get significant new audiences on board like India and China who won't have as much nostalgia for the old films.

yeah about that SW7 TFA.

Given that its a December release i dont see how it will make more than 455 mil that AOU will make DOM or more than 1,161 bil FF7 did in OS markets.

SW8 will have a much better chance. I think TFA will play out like Iron Man 3 in total gross if not slightly less.

^^ Yes but no other movie released in December after Avatar did more than 1-1,2 bil WW.

Plus Star Wars may be the bigger franchise but it is not Avatar.

Part of the reason is that big films have been released in the traditional dates (self-fulfilling prophecy). There's been a good number of recent examples of big films opening in different months and obliterating the previous monthly record for that month.

I gotta repeat, I don't think 1.4B is in anyway a lock. It's by all means totally possible, but what is possible and what is a lock are two different things and I would not call it a lock.

If interest is not there I can see this getting less than 30M in Japan. Actually I can see it getting even less than that.

It really all depends on Japan to get that 1.4B. Maybe if we are lucky it will blow up there.

There's still Japan left. It will do at least $40 M.

Terminator will struggle to break $400 M worldwide.

I can't see Japan doing less than Iron Man 3's $25 M. There's still a little life left in AoU at the box office. If Japan performs softly, AoU will still die at the finish line at $1.4 B.

Dinosaurs are much more palatable to the general-non-fans than say some long going franchise like Star Wars which releases its first movie in 8-9 years

Plus Jurrasic World was a reboot
