The Dark Knight Rises Eckhart on Dent returning: "I could not possibly say."

So you're telling me, in that moment as he was asked the question, he somehow stopped, thought for a bit, and went, "Yeah, I'll smile because it'll throw all the fans off." You're giving him way too much credit. This was an interview, not a scene. His reactions were genuine - whatever they may imply. (And for all we know, he was just smiling because people still won't stop asking him about Two-Face. He's explicitly told us that Two-Face wasn't going to be in it before, so I imagine it must be quite funny that people keep trying.)

Yes, I am telling you that.
The man is an excellent actor, and any actor promoting a movie is "on". It's his second nature, he probably didn't even have to stop and think about it.
IT'S WHAT HE DOES.

He isn't coming back. Eckhart was just messing with that guy. You can totally tell that he's just teasing him. He's said on several occasions that he's dead and not coming back. Nolan told him so.

If they had Harvey riddled with bullets and bleeding out his guts, then, sure, it would be hack writing to bring him back. But Two-Face fell from a height alongside Batman; Batman miraculously pops right back up, while Two-Face is stone-cold dead? They left a lot of doors open for themselves. We don't see the fall, we only see a portrait at the funeral, etc. It wouldn't be hackneyed if Gordon has him hidden in Arkham. Harvey's certainly dead, but Two-Face should still be alive.

1. Bats was wearing his suit, and survived an even higher fall with Rachel at the party.
2. Dent had just dismissed himself from the hospital.
BTW, look at the last line of my post, I allowed for it to happen, but strictly for the whole "rises" part of the movie.

I love how statements he made when the final script wasn't in place are 100000% relevant now that it is finished.

God forbid Chris, Jonah and Goyer are banging out the final draft and come across a story issue and one of them says "Two-face!"

"No guys - sorry. We already told the press he isn't."

I think it speaks volumes that he's changed his answer now that the final draft is done.

Or he's just having fun with corky dorky the reporter since no matter what answer he gives the question won't go away.

Yes, scripts can get tweaked, re-written, etc, but knowing the general story and who is going to be in it is usually pretty well locked in around the time of the first treatment, and they only go about 7-10 pages, generally.
If a major character from the previous movie was going to be in it, they would have known with the first treatment, which was done LONG ago.
I just dont' think Nolan would do some sort of "disinformation" campaign. He's way to classy of a guy to do it. If he is in the movie, it will be in some sort of flashback sequence.

Its fun to speculate about it, and i loved his Harvey Dent/Two Face, and especially his Two Face really erased any memory i hade of the Two Face from Batman Forever.

But i think its pretty damn obvious this guy is just teasing the media, i mean the guy gets asked this question literally everytime by the media and fans so it would be boring if he just replied "No" everytime, i am sure hes just messing with people.

Though i could see this maybe happening , and i think it could work

We all know about the whole Gordon saying he killed 5 people but we only know of 3 maybe 4.

What if we saw a flashback scene of Two Face killing that 5th person, maybe that 5th person is important to the story in this film.

Yeah, that suit argument has never sat well with me, and not just because of the fact that that isn't how physics work. I believe the idea behind the fall with Rachel is supposed to be that Batman caught the air by deploying his cape mechanism just before impact. Otherwise, why isn't Rachel as dead as Harvey? That's either inconsistent writing, or Nolan has something up his sleeve. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and calling him a good writer with an intricate plan for the third film.

I said nothing about a misinformation campaign. But no offense my friend, as a *professional* screenwriter - please don't begin to lecture me on writing processes. They vary by individual. And unless you sit in on Nolan's brainstorming sessions - you really have no say in what does / doesn't happen. Story issues are worked out as you go along. Problems arise and complications ensue. One answer may lead to several other problems / conflicts.

I'm not saying it's a given. I'm saying the possibility is still viable to have had happened. And the fact that Eckhart's response has changed --- if I recall correctly this is actually the 2ND time he's been coy about the answer since November - maybe? Someone else know what I'm talking about here? I'm 99% sure we had him give a different answer once after from the "rainy beach" story point.

Watching the video, at first glance it seems like he is coming back, but maybe he just likes to F with the media?

As I said in another thread, I think he's just having fun. Just last week (maybe it was a week and a half), he cracked some coy joke and then when the interviewer took him seriously, he clarified that he wouldn't be back, and he wouldn't want it any other way. I don't have the link, but I'm sure Crissa has it somewhere.

Of course, I finish all my posts these days with 'but you never know...' :funny:

As for the differing fall between Batman and Harvey, I always took the difference as being Batman powerfully knocked him off, sending him at an angle that would break the neck, whereas Bats, who was holding the ledge, fell relatively straight (with a slight angle - this can be seen in the brief shot of him falling through the wood bars) and either broke his fall with his legs, or didn't land at such a sharp angle (in terms of crushing the vertebrae) as Harvey. I wish I had a little stickman diagram. :)

I remember a recent interview here he said something like "That wasn't my movie, that was Heath's movie" and he's said multiple times that he wont be coming back.
But you never know. :awesome:

Yes it would. Backing away from and reversing a plot point like that is, like, the very definition of hackneyed writing. Not to mention, if Batman is taking the fall for all of Dent's murders, why does he need to be hidden at all (and especially in Arkham of all places)? Shouldn't they, oh I don't know, at least take him to a hospital instead?

Dent fell from several stories high without wearing a Batsuit. There was a funeral held for him. And Nolan has explicitly said that he's dead. End of story.

so you guys are fine with Ras returning but u just dont think its possible for dent to return?

i think a two face return is more possible then a ras one at this point

I think it's a movie and anything Nolan wants to happen can happen.

Regardless of what he says to the press.

Two Face being alive means all the mob members who he put away being out again.

In terms of storytelling, I think it's far easier to bring back Ras then it would Two-Face.

But, in terms of simply having Two-Face there (dream sequence) it's not all that crazy at all. That would also account for why the change in Eckhart's answers came so late in the game, because Nolan could have decided to add in Two-Face into a dream sequence later on.

I still think the most probable answer is that Eckhart is just messing with people because he's tired of the question though. Heck, it's what I'd do after a while.

It's funny how you people think this means Two-Face is alive. LOL @ u. I'm taking a print screen picture of my post about how he's gonna be in the film and show ya'll in a year or so whenever it comes out.

.........................................................................

I'm confused; Eckhart, you dirty little bastard! LOL :woot:

I dunno though; I think he's still dead. They left him like that in DV too falling to his death............ but he came back, somehow. Gordon faked his own death too to capture the Joker.

I'm not saying yes, but I'm not saying no yet either. If he's back, then we're REALLY getting somewhere. :hrt:

If Two-Face is alive, this movie could be weighed down from too many characters. Hopefully they can pull it off, I have faith they can, but Selina Kyle, Bane, Talia, and possible Black Mask and Two-Face? I don't want another X3! However, this is Nolan we're talking, not Ratner.

in all honesty - wouldnt we all do exactly that if we were in his shoes? hahaha, he must be really tired of that question by now :whatever:

AAAAAnd, lets remember he is one heck of an ACTOR, who generally become quite good at CONTROLING and FAKING emotions. If he didn't want to smile there, he wouldn't have...

Yeah because movies are shot in one take....oooookkkkaaay

Seriously though, this would kinda suck. Bane, Catwoman, Two-Face....possibly Tailia? This turning into Spiderman 3. Nolan did a great job with multiple villains in BB and TDK, but this still seems a bit much. We'll see....its probably not even true.

I disagree. This movie isn't turning into spider-man3, it will be worse than Spidermanz 3. Boycott and save your money while you can.

Goddamit, Dent is dead. It said it in capital letters in the script, Jonah confirmed it, and Emma Thomas confirmed it. The man is dead.

If he ever appears it will be in flashback or in someone's mind.

If he is alive and well I'll be very disapointed. It takes away from the tragedy completely. The end of TDK wouldn't be as strong.
