Days of Future Past First Class Official Casting Thread

Wow. I had no idea that Singer really wanted him.

Kinda proves that the whole thing wasn't the studio wanting Twilight actors. Just Bryan Singer's usual bizarro casting.

I mean, Halle Berry?
Daniel Cudmore (whom he literally picked up at the gym)?
Kate Bosworth?

:oldrazz:

EDIT: Also, he says four weeks ago only one person was official signed. Wasn't it a little over 4 weeks ago when we had reports that Ben Walker was signed? I guess he really wasn't attached after all.

Or, perhaps I'm just over thinking things.

Yeah--I remember back when the Lautner rumor first came up, people were ready to jump on RothmanFoxblanket...now we know that it could've been Singer backing the entire idea.

I'm sorry, but Lautner can't be anywhere near this. He will forever be in the public's eyes just this Jacob character and nothing more. He would be a distraction in every movie he pops up in for a while now.

Nah, he will forever be Shark Boy.

:p

But the difference is, people actually watched Twilight.. :p

Where did they pull Meagan Good's name from?

I can see why Singer/Fox would want Taylor Lautner to be in it because he is hot property at the moment. Twilight is successful because magazines, blogs etc always talk about the cast and it is free publicity. Plus Taylor would bring over some of the Twilight audience making First Class more $$$. That's how a studio thinks.

Fans, however, wouldn't have liked it at all and I'm glad it hasn't happened. I'm glad we have Vaughn involved as he makes sensible casting choices. Singer has a habit of casting with his Johnson.

This blog started speculation with a nothing really to go on. I guess they could have check IMDB before/during the interview as she is currently listed on there.

Yeah, I remember when she was first mentioned..

I wouldn't mind her.

She has comparable skin complexion and is actually the same height as Berry or maybe less than an inch shorter.

Well, she's kinda too old. And she's a pretty awful actress.

D:

Who the heck would Lautner have played anyhow? :p He doesn't fit any of the top guy's characteristics anyhow.

Maybe, but I always figured the original Warpath would have been tooold for Lautner to play, unless they had planned to skip down to his younger brother. I dunno... I dislike the idea of making up newbies just to fit big names. I am happy with the casting so far without having to reach out to accomodate someone we don't really need. :)

Meagan is adorable but...as an actress? Can she bring the "fury" of Storm?

See, this is why this needs to be a reboot, not a prequel. If Bryan is going for another actress to continue the soft-spoken, mousy theme that we already have in Halle's version, I. Am. Out. :down Halle's portrayal of Storm was one of the weakest aspects of the first trilogy and this is one area where they need to completely let continuity go to hell and get it right from scratch.

Bryan's thinking on Taylor is so f***** up too. God...get him out of the casting chair NOW!!! :whatever:

Eh, even though I'm glad he's not in the film I can't sit here and say he would have been terrible. I've never seen him in ANYTHING so I'd be foolish to judge his acting ability. Just because he's in Twilight? Dakota Fanning is in Twilight and I wouldn't call her a bad actress. If an actor is in a film that is perceived to be bad, that doesn't make them a bad actor. Case in point -- Natalie Portman. Fantastic in everything I've seen her in except Star Wars. She's dreadful in Star Wars.

But, that is the nature of the geek community. If an actor gets his start in female oriented movies, he's awful (Zac Efron). But if an actor is in more male oriented movies he's awesome (Shia LaBeouf). However, Efron is a far superior actor than LaBeouf.

:/

I don't want a reboot. :( I'd rather have prequels we can build on or what have you. I was happy enough with the first three films not to need them done over again.

dont know about that shia in guide to recognizing your saints is better than anything efron has done imo

I haven't seen that. I'm just basing my opinion on what i've seen from both actors. Shia was dreadful in Transformer, Eagle Eye, and Indiana Jones. Efron, on the other hand, was great in Haispray, 17 Again, and Me and Orson Wells.

I definitely think Efron shows more promise as an actor than Shia does.

Shia was great on Even Stevens and Holes... I guess he's more of the comedy type

And Efron is more of the basketball, singing, dancing, type.

It's just that casting him would be so obvious. Taylor is very much a fad right now, as are all of these Vampire movies. To cast him in this would be just so...expected and ho-hum. And it'd clearly be a ruse to get people to come see the film. What these idjits behind the scenes fail to grasp is that the characters and storyline are all you need to really sell the film at this point. The X-Men are mainstream now and they can afford to go with brilliant, inspired, high-quality actors instead of whatever's convenient. Both Taylor AND Meagan scream "Microwave selections" to me. :whatever:

I agree with Electrix: Bryan was thinking below his belt if he was even remotely considering that kid. JP, it's the same damn thinking process that he probably used in getting Halle in the first place: instead of casting someone that works for the character, he just went for the "it-girl" of the moment.

Hate. It.

And Dakota is very cool and amazingly talented. They should let her play the Stepford Cuckoos and just triplicate her. LOL :p

Yes. I completely agree on all counts.
I was merely making a counter argument to those who would say that Lautner shouldn't be in the film because he's TEH SUXXSORZ. I in no way think Lautner would be good for this film.

What I love about the first two films is that they cast talented actors who were below the radar in terms of popularity, but brilliant in their craft. So far, Vaughn has assembled a cast that is exactly that. I'd even say he has a better group of actors because he hasn't cast any random model or a kid from the gym across the street from the studio (...yet!).
