Game of Thrones - HBO part 2 - Part 5

I heard that HBO is gonna renew it for 6 seasons so my guess is if he would die they likely know enough to end Game Of Thrones TV wise and likely his books would be finished from TV adaptation novels

GRRM told the two writers the ending so they could write the tv series and not mess anything up. If something happens to Martin the tv series is covered. The book series will continue the same way Wheel Of Time series continued after its writer passed. Another writer will be brought in and will use GRRM's notes.

And the tv series will need more than 6 seasons because, seasons 3&4 are covering book 3, Storm of Swords. They can't cover the last 4 books in only seasons 5&6. Its gonna take at least 8 seasons unless they drop a lot and alter things significantly.

I recall reading that GRRM doesn't want anyone else to finish the series if he doesn't. It's a question he usually dodges (with good reason), so I'm not entirely sure.

There's a lot of filler in books 4 and 5, so they can chop that down to a season each (though condense it so everything occurs chronologically). Since they have to cut stuff from earlier, they can probably do 6 and 7 in 2 seasons. Maybe HBO will give them a few extra episodes to work with.

I think 6 will cover it. As Spidey said Book 4 and 5 not only took place at the same time, but did have some filler in it, and could easily be trimmed down with no harm done to the story. That and you know they won't do book 4 and 5 like the books. No way would they have a season with out Jon or Dani. So it will probably go chronologically while following all the characters.

That and if worse comes to worse they can do an additional 2 episodes per season. With more money being thrown their way I'm sure they could do it with out harm to the quality.

I read that GRRM told the producers how to end it. He said he wanted no one to finish the books ever, but I believe he told the manuscript/outline of 6 and 7 to the producers. He wants to finish the story, I just don't think he wants anyone finishing his books.

I really dont think this can be done in 6 seasons nor do I think they will put books 6&7 into one season each unless forced to. Books 4&5 will most likely be altered/combined and cover 2 seasons. That will put us at 6 seasons. Unless they do a time jump like GRRM originally intended they will need at least two seasons for books 4&5. Yeah there is filler but those books combined are 2,000+ pages and not all of that is filler and the writers have already said they only want ten episodes per season. One season (10 episodes) for books 4&5 wont cut it nor will 13 episodes imo.

All those extra seasons will give Martin time to catch up on the reat of the books. :) Hopefully.

I did not mean six seasons. I meant six more seasons after this and so did the person you were replying to. So 9 all together, maybe just 8. Six would not cut it. I meant additional to the three we have.

Oh gotcha.:) If this series makes it to 9 seasons it would be the longest running show on HBO, correct?

I believe so. I think it will easily go to 8. I mean HBO knows they have to do this for the long haul. And it is doing very well for them, so there would be no reason not to.

If anything were to happen to GRRM they would probably finish the books even if he doesn't want anyone else to.

Someone just needs to light a fire under GRRM's ass. I don't approve of rushing anyone, but it's been almost two decades since the first book. Time to wrap **** up. :o

It's a shame Martin doesn't have his very own Christopher Tolkien :hehe:

Does anyone remember at the end of ADWD, the army opposing Daenarys sent back three heads via catapult? I'm assuming Daario was among those heads?

People must remember he is in his 80's and if something happens I would think the show would have to have an ending weither the books are not written or are.

That and he is in good health. I've never really worried about him finishing it, he will. The series has lit a fire under his ass. He'll get it done.

I dont mind him taking time. He just needs a decent editor who will fight him. His last two books have been unruly.

There was filler in there that was for sure, the core of the stories were still great. That is one great thing about the show, they can cut the extensive filler, and not have over sized seasons needed. One thing great about the show as GRRM put it, they can fix things he realized he should not have done.

There is a difference between taking your time and TAKING YOUR TIME. Basically 20years to finish a 7 book series is an extreme, not other way to say it.

Tolkien spent about 13 years for LOTR, and that was just 1200 pages (which was alone what A Storm of Swords was) all together, I will say GRRM has a much bigger story he's writing in a 20 year span.

The difference between LOTR and GoT is that he didnt release it until it was all written. And it doesnt seem like GRRM has a much bigger story to tell since it just seems like he is a slow writer and it just shouldnt take something like this (even though he has all the right in the world) to take that long. Does it really take him 20 years to think of how to write the series? To me, it is ridiculous.

To you maybe. To me no. I think the story is much more massive, and there are many more complex characters in the game. I will say Tolkien, had a much bigger world/history/languages he created during this time and after LOTR. But the story itself was not to the scope of what A Song of Ice and Fire is. To me I'd rather him take his time if he needs it. And really the difference is LOTR was one book, his publishers forced Tolkien to make it 3 to make more money and they did not want to print that big of a book. So it was not like some planned three books, it was one. GRRM is doing something much different, like many authors of today, creating a series. LOTR was not a series, it was one book split into three by other forces.

J.K. Rowling created a 7 book series that took 10 years to complete. GRRM has a 7 book series that will take 20 (+?) years to complete. Imagine if it took as long to come out with each season of the show. And it just takes him forever to complete a book because it probably isnt his main goal.

You don't know that. And yes JK really did put those things out. But again that means nothing. If it takes him longer so what? Keep writing good books is all I care about.
