Game of Thrones - HBO part 2 - Part 6

First season was very different from seasons 2&3. I didn't get into it until season 2. The new showrunner saved it for me. Of course they fired him too and reshot stuff in season 3 and I was largely disappointed with season 3 so who knows what season 4 will be like. As for the zombies, this isn't a sombie show in the typical sense. Its about the humans left behind and the zombies barely factor into the plot. The title "the walking dead" doesn't even refer to the zombies. It refers to the humans still living who are actually carriers of the virus but due to an anomaly don't turn unless they die. And in their universe there was no zombie lore nor zombies in pop culture at all prior to the outbreak so no one ever conceived anything like the dead rising. They dont even know the word zombie. The show flips the zombie genre on its head in a number of ways.
Really? Season 2 was the worst of the 3, season 1 was short but each episode had something going on, while Season 3 has been consistently good and has been putting the right amount of content for each episode. Season 2 almost made me quit walking dead and i've seen people losing interest because of its first half.

Not to derail further, but shane was my favorite part of the show, and he was on full display in season 2. The rick/shane dynamic kept me interested more than anything. I was hoping the gov would fill that void but he was pretty much squandered and paled in comparison.

Shane should have ran and showed up later as the governor.

Probably, but just spoil me hard.
You he "iron" as she will pay when she is seated on the Iron Throne but if it is the case it would seems weird that the slaver accept a loan.

"Paying the Iron price." is a phrase that House Greyjoy uses, it means killing someone and taking what they have as your own.

Ok so the slaver is fine with loan, that's it ? Daenarys didn't take any wealth from anyone yet.

Remember in last season's finale she took the gold from qarth. That got her a boat and she has some left over.

I remember Qarth vault being empty and that she sealed the girl and the black guy in it.

I'm pretty sure it was directed at Spidey-bat who is talking about walking dead.:o

To the topic at hand, who was the memorium for at the end of the episode? I wasn't aware a person died on set.

I mentioned it twice after someone brought it up. You don't need to respond with some detailed analysis of each season.

That was hardly detailed. Just wanted to respond since your assessment of walking dead didnt accurately reflect the show but if you wanna be grumpy about it then ok.

And after that her men raided the houses. Rememeber they are in Daxos house and she tosses Jorah a gold plate and she says "enough to buy a ship" then he orders the men to take all the gold. And they start grabbing plates and vases and everything made of gold.

Oh, my memories failed me again.
Ok, all things are on track again, thanks.

It's been established that slavery is pretty wide-spread in the east but is outlawed in westeros.

Is there a particular reason given as to why that is?

Simply the same reasons slavery persisted in different parts of our own world longer than in other parts. Culture, economy, religion, politics etc.

I know GRRM does like to base many of his cultures on real life history and westeros is more or less medieval europe and slavery wasn't really practiced at that time. So it makes sense.

I was just wondering if there was any specific event or decree in the back-story? The Targaryans as a people didn't seem like anybody who would have moral quibbles about slavery.

I can't recall any specific event or decree, but I could be forgetting. It seems to never have been a thing in Westeros prior to the Targaryans conquering westeros and they didn't bring it from Essos. Dany herself is very anti slave to the point of destruction as she will demonstrate.

Dany is anti-slave in name only imo. Kind in the, I don't want slaves, but I'll take servants who I don't pay.

in general, how faithful has the tv show been to the books?

Very good. They have been kind of like the Harry Potter films. The general idea, with the same destination, though sometimes how they get there is a little different.

The only thing that I think they have come close to messing up is Jon's story since season 1.

She calls them "interns."

:funny:

[Blackout]Her destruction of the Mereen economy, the destabilization of the whole economy of Essos, and countless people who died for her crusade against slavery says otherwise. If she really didnt care about slavery she would have maintained the fighting pits and allowed Mereen to operate as usual.[/blackout]

As for her handmaids, they can leave at any time. With her they live far better than they ever could on the streets. She doesn't mistreat them and they are given the best care of her entourage so I wouldn't in any way consider them enslaved. And room and bored and the best care available is a form of payment.

ah, ok. thanks.

not really familiar with the story. never read any of the books. watched some eps from the prior seasons. now starting to get into it.

it's kind of confusing with all the names, factions, agendas, etc..........lol

is the general idea that all these factions are vying for the throne, the one that the Lannister kid is currently holding?

are the books finished or still ongoing?

I don't mind being spoiled, if the story is finished, who wins the throne in the end?

As for her servants, they can leave at any time. They are no more slaves than the hand maidens that work at kings landing and they live far better than they ever could on the streets.

That is the whole point. When you make people dependent on you without an actual solution that doesn't involve them following you, it is pretty much slavery. You are free to leave, but you'll probably end up dead. You are free to leave, but I am your queen. You are free to leave, but my dragons will burn all those that don't follow me.

It is manifest destiny. You think Dany is going to show up in Westeros and not have a problem with others who don't think particularly well of being ruled by a little girl and her dragons?

[BLACKOUT]I have freed you. Yes I destroyed your entire economy and gave you no actual way to live. You are free to leave any time you like, but you'll probably end up dead. There is a reason why this storyline has destroyed the pacing of the series.[/BLACKOUT]

No, the books aren't finished, and at the rate they are going they might never be finished. 3 books in 4 years, and now 2 in 11, with at least 2 more books to come.

Yes, pretty much everyone wants the throne Joffrey sits on, except Jon and those at the Wall. They are fighting a battle to protect all of mankind.

And on the factions and names front. The show may seem a bit confusing, but they really cut down on that stuff. The books are way worse which is pretty amazing really.
