Robb went to war to get Ned back, not to fight for Stannis' claim. If Ned was allowed to live and sent to the Wall, they likely would have submitted to the Iron Throne and then been neutral in their war against the Baratheons just like the Vale.

Considering Ned was going to throw his lot in with Stannis, I question the odds of them remaining neutral.

Though presumably the Lannisters would have kept Sansa hostage. But one girl only gets them so much.

I wonder how Ned would've responded to Stannis pledging himself to the Lord of Light and all his dealings with Melisandre and taking out his brother and so on, had he survived.... I have to imagine not much different than Davos.
