Owen Teale returns for Season 4!

Of his part as Alliser Thorne on Game of Thrones, Teale had this to say:

“He’s a ruthless sergeant major-type character. He’s a twisted character who’s been very damaged in the past. He’s great to play and there’s some fantastic dialogue.”

The antagonistic master-at-arms Alliser Thorne was last seen in Season 1 Episode 8, “The Pointy End,” and last mentioned in Season 1 Episode 9, “Baelor,” when Lord Commander Mormont explains he is sending him to King’s Landing with the hand of a wight.

Is there any big story reason how it took him 2 years to get to King's Landing? Was it the war? Can the wight's hand survive that long as it's magical source?

He was supposed to be there in season 2, but they replaced his scene with a letter that Tyrion reads to the council instead. And by the time in the book that he actually met with Tyrion, the hand had already decayed.

Is there any big story reason how it took him 2 years to get to King's Landing? Was it the war? Can the wight's hand survive that long as it's magical source?

That's great news as I really like his take on Thorne. The scene where he talks to Jon and Sam about how it is in winter beyond the Wall is one of my favorites from the first season, and it's not even from the book.
