Neither. He'd be a Legendary Pokemon.

Guys, we've got our Red Viper.

Prince Oberyn Martell will be played by Chilean actor Pedro Pascal, who has previously had arcs on CBS’ The Good Wife, ABC’s Red Widow and USA’s Graceland.

“This was a tough one,” say showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss about the casting. “The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn’t easy to find and he won’t be easy to stop.”

This bode well for the rest of the Martells.

I'm further in the TV series than I am in the books, so I always forget that the Martells are supposed to be important.

Am I the only one who thought the name "Martell" didn't fit the Dornish?

Just seems like they would have less Anglicized names.

I'm past the part in the third book where he's been introduced. Interesting to see where season three covered, he could have been introduced.

Plus I'm half way through the third book and it's interesting to see where and how they split things up. I'm really surprised Martin didn't write about the Wall being climbed by Jon, instead skipping to them reaching the top. Also, I have to say the things added in the show elevate the material.

To be fair, season 3 already had about 2 dozen characters introduced over the season (or felt like it at times) and since he's an important part of the 3rd book, they probably wanted to distinguish him a bit by introducing him fresh in season 4

looks like a latino Nathan Fillion, I remember him from that Burn Notice movie

Hey! Nathan Fillion is the latino Nathan Fillion. He's also the black Nathan Fillion, Asian Nathan Fillion and Jewish Nathan Fillion. He got range, man!

Range, please.... he can't even convincingly play female. :o

No you're not the only one. The Dornish seem more like the Essos people which I think they are originally from Essos. I guess being in such close proximity to Westerosi culture they have picked up some Westeros style names. I think it would have been cool if the Dornish would have had two names. A dornish name they use with their own people and culture, and a name they use while around the Westerosi. So like the Martell name would be their Westeros name, but they have an "old world" name, as well. That make sense?

The original House Martel were Andals native to Westeros, Nymeria married into it when she invaded with the Rhoynar. Their full name is House Nymeros Martell of Dorne.

Well, that clears that up.:woot:

Michelle Fairley. Emmy nomination.

These are my demands. :o

I assume Sean Bean didn't get a nomination? Watch some Iwan Rheon interviews... dude is quite the actor.

I liked Iwan Rheon in Misfits but his current sitcom with Sir Ian Mckellen is awful.

Given that this wasn't in the first book at all, does anyone else think this might have future significance. Perhaps foreshadowing the two crossing paths at some point...

I think they just wanted to give Jaime something slightly dickish to do so he didn't look rattled after the breakfast scene. And reinforcing/expositing stuff about the Night's Watch.

Yeah, I think it's just Jaime being an ***hole. Just to ensure viewers don't like him if the whole pushing Bran out the window thing didn't do the job.
