Green Arrow series in the works at The CW - Part 1

The title may be Arrow, but it's still clearly going to be Ollie's story.

Just because the title of the show was 24, doesn't mean that handing the show over to anyone other than Keifer Sutherland as Bauer would be a good idea. When the lead leaves, show's over. This past season of The Office has assured me of that.

Ya I would too like to hold speedy/red arrow/arnseal to around a 3rcd season myself. I rather see canary happen first. Since we have dinah on show. And maybe do a storyline during season one that leads to hear wanting to take the fight on crime. But leave it maybe as a cliffhanger to season and she officially becomes canary in season two.

Holy crap! Who'd a thought Sky would take a shot at it. I thought if anyone tried it, it would be Watch, syfy, or fiver - maybe FX at a push. And week for week too by the sounds of it

What is sky for uk compared to us networks is it a major boardcast one like nbc/cbs/fox/abc, or something akin to a lower boardcast/cable network like cw/fx/syfy/etc....

Sky is the channel here that got Lost, 24, Fringe, House, Glee, NCIS LA, Prison Break, all the Stargates... Many shows of which is bought out from other channels after they had them for a season (Lost and 24 primarily, which the BBC and Channel 4 lost)

Speaking to The Outhousers in a podcast, writer Marc Guggenheim talks in detail about his new CW show Arrow and what fans should expect---

On whether that's indeed Deathstroke's mask in the teaser trailer and if we can expect him to show up in the series?
Marc Guggenheim : That is most definitely the mask. I would encourage people to watch the show, particularly watch future episodes.

Will the show be similar in tone to Smallville?
MG: This is a brand new take. Smallville was an amazing show, it was an incredible vision of Superman and a lot of other DC superheroes including Green Arrow. This is a different take. This is taking Green Arrow from the ground up and making him the center of a show and we have to change the tone to fit the character. [The show] will be much more grounded, more realistic because he's a more realistic superhero than Superman, he doesn't fly, he doesn't have x-ray vision, he doesn't have super powers and our show reflects that.

It shares similarities with Smallville in so far that it's produced by Warner Bros., it's on the CW, David Nutter directed the pilot, Glen Winter was D.P. on Smallville, it shares certain talent. But apart from that it is a new and completely different kind of show. How many episodes will the show have in its first season?
MG: We got picked up for 13 episodes. The standard [network] order is pilot +12 and that's what we're writing towards. But we have plans for what episode 22 would be, what seasons 2 and 3 would be about and with any luck, we get to tell all those stories.

Who made the decision to change the name of Green Arrow's hometown to Starling City?
MG: Basically,the decision was made by me and my co-writers, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, and was in keeping with the notion that the show should be grounded in the real world, as much as possible. And we asked ourselves the question, "Would there be a city named Star City, in this day and age?" It sounds very science-fiction and we made the decision that it took us out of the tone that we were trying to set with the book.

We thought about setting the show in Seattle because Seattle was where Mike Grell (Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters) had set his Green Arrow run but we steered away from that idea because we wanted a fictional city that we could blow up or get into its politics or create gangs, the artistic license a fictional city affords you. Originally it was going to be Starkton City but then to avoid comparisons with Iron Man, Andrew came up with Starling City and we all liked the name. If you check out the series, we tried to include references like Star City is what the tourist bureau calls the city.

Any other DC heroes appearing in the show? MG: I
would say, watch very carefully and watch more than the pilot.

Ya I thought the same thing. How would starkon city be any more realistic than star city? I'm surprised they didn't ask if this realistic take will be include metas or not. Since you can still have heroes with powers and be realistic.

Well maybe they will have metas. There is plently they can explain thrrough science/tech means like cyborg/first blue beetle, and othere of those caliber of heroes. Though if they don't want metas off the bat. Then I would say stick to the likes of question, sandman, wildcat and other no powered/limited powered guys of street level. And ya the whole rename deal was stupid. But I am happy they did say star city will be there in ways.

I agree, I Googled Star city and got a video aracade did the same for Starling city and found a place in Australia. The tourist bureau calling it Star city though is a nice touch.

I'm fine with it. It's the seeming ease and carefree attitude to killing that concerns me a little. It's a little like GA's argument for using arrows over bullets in the first place (aside from he didn't have access to a gun to learn from on the island anyway) - you can disarm with an arrow, pin someone to a wall, injure and immobilise, as well as kill. Bullets pretty much just kill. If you have no problem killing people all over the shop, then your perfect aim with a bow isn't really all that - you could just shoot them all.

Though maybe he only kills those couple guys from the trailer and realises he's gone too far and is still a little "native". Who knows

10 Page ARROW Comic Book Tie-In To Be Given Away At This Year's San Diego Comic-Con

The pilot episode of Arrow will premiere at this year's San Diego Comic-Con,and the have revealed plans to release a tie-in comic book at the event which fills in some of the gaps between that and the the second episode.

"It's almost like a little mini episode after the pilot but before the next episode," Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe), who co-wrote the story with Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Geoff Johns, tells TV Guide. Mike Grell (Green Lantern/Green Arrow) pencilled the cover which you can see to the right, while the interiors have been handled by Omar Francia (Star Wars Legacy). "People tend to think of Green Arrow as a little more lighthearted and sort of a ladies man," adds Kreisberg. "And the Oliver Queen that we're doing a show about is a little bit more tortured, a little darker and lives more in the real world."

The story will apparently feature flashbacks showing more of Oliver Queen's past as a playboy before he became Green Arrow. There will also be a fair bit of time spent looking at Detectove Hilton; a character created by Kreisberg during his run on Green Arrow for DC Comics and played by 24 star Roger Cross in the pilot. They also go on to tease that Deathstroke (spotted in one of the trailers for the Arrow) will be involved somehow. "To us those 10 pages are canon," Kreisberg conludes, "and [for] anyone who grabs a copy: Hold onto it and as the series progresses, you'll appreciate it more and more."
