Green Arrow series in the works at The CW - Part 1

But the thing is that some villains are very much in between a few superheroes.
Riddler had a good run with Green Arrow. Merlyn also was involved in League of Assassins. So its really hard to say which characters are completely restricted. IMO I think the top few iconic villains would be restricted. Everyone else would be fair game. Thats pretty good IMO because I don't need to see another version of Joker or Lex Luthor or Two Face. Would be interesting to see more obscure characters. Magpie for instance was originally a Superman villain but then Batman ended up fighting her for the rest of her career. Similarly I would not be surprise to see some obscure batman characters in the show. Matches Malone, Lady Shiva and etc

Wonder if they will create any villains worthy of translating into the comics.

I hope so. Like others have said, GA's rogue's gallery is fairly bare...

I'm sure almost all of batmans will be off limits except for those ones that aren't his exclusively. Ditto for lex as well.

Drakon is a good adversary because he seems almost capable of being fast enough (without being superhuman) to dodge all of GA's shots, thereby making it frustrating for Ollie that this is the one guy where a bullet would actually do the job because of its speed.

Deathstroke of course is a brilliant choice because of his fighting skills combined with his tactical mind - you can see the hunter becoming the hunted here.

Merlyn, an obvious one. A member of the league of assassins who finds his reputation is suffering and targets aren't as scared of him because there's someone new on the scene who may or may not kill you and whose skills rival Merlyn's own.

Deadshot - again, someone who Ollie can barely come out from cover to get off a shot before Deadshot is firing again. A series of murders could be what brings him to town, hired of course (Deadshot never goes out killing for free does he?)

Shado - more of a deadly Catwoman figure. Sultry and intrigued by Arrow, enough to confuse his emotional feelings for Dinah with his former lust impulse control. But she still needs him dead; just after a little chasing.

Brick - a difficult one to do. But possibly an increased keratinisation of the skin coupled with denser bones due to increased differentiation of chondroblasts to osteoblasts and an unregulated osteoblastic/osteoclastic response. His muslces as he grew up would have to big thicker and bigger to compensate for the increased mass of his bones, and therefore he'd be able to wear thicker body armour, hit harder, and his skin (though obviously not arrow proof - hence the body armour) would take punches and kicks better and he's be harder to break anything (neck etc)

I get all the restiction and all that. But still in batman case even if they are starting up a reboot. It still will be a few yrs before anything happens likey. Like I was saying probably be minium 5 yrs give or take to we see new bat on screen. So I was just saying maybe they would be more leanit on bat foes like black mask type of guys. While batman and the ionic guys like joker are left out. But who knows features and tv division are two different things and they all have to play ball with each other.

I am just saying 5 would be idea time frame. So like 03 hulk and tih hulk or sm 3 and tasm, so it gives time for nolan series to have past. And not have a new one out to quick. Plus just going from script, casting, director, and filming usually takes 2 yrs to complete everything. In dc/wb case they should wait a bit. If the new superman is a success that could be there new golden goose for a few yrs. So in that take try/do at least another character ie flash/ww/aquaman/etc... then with time past and new characters out. And if they finally are doing a more shared universe for films where x hero can met up x hero. We can set up a world better where a more comicbooky batman could operate with super powered heroes/bad guys.

Why is it so hard for CW to come up with a good image campaign? I am still left staring at 90210s promo from 3 years ago, same with GG. Time to stop being lazy and give all your shows new ones instead of reusing the same ones from when they first started.

WB still knew how to do it

That promo makes me feel like this show won't last past a second season, not because it will be bad, but rather because its on the CW. I don't know much about what the show will be about, but it doesn't seem to be as heavy in teen drama as Smallville was for a lot of years, which is what helped it fit in after the merger.

But seeing as how the Vampire Diaries is the only show they actually try to promote, I don't see a bright future ahead for them on this network.

As long as they can pull around 1.8/2mill viewers they will be good.

I don't say that we had good press so far. And come on cw fall schedule doesn't start to oct. And we still have a lot more time for cw as a whole and x shows to get media blitz. And it duesnt really matter for ones like gossip girl which are ending.

Plus you also have to remember we have a new pres in charge at cw and he wants more different shows/demos. As for vd being promoted more its probably due to fact it, spn and nitika I believe are the highest rated ones on network currently. So that is probably why they are still cataring to viewers from that to keep network going.

Either way, they still need to promote all their shows a little more. It is probably one of the reasons why they have been failing so bad. If you dont promote something how do you expect people to know it is there? They stopped promoting 90210 after season2 and it went downhill after that.

The CW has been well known for their poor marketing of longer lasting shows. Heck, they've pushed both of their better shows, Smallville and Supernatural into the death slot, where they obviously weren't going to gain more viewers.

Granted, SPN hasn't been the same these past few years and Smallville was already on its way out, but when you spend almost an entire minute plus ad that is supposed to showcase your new lineup on mobile devices and apps centered around your most promoted show, it kinda makes you wonder just how well they want the others show to do.

Whoever is in charge of CW promo department needs to be fired.

Actually the fact that it will be on the CW, means they have lesser expectations. TVD premiered to 3.1 mil viewers this year. We're talking about CW's hottest TV show. 3.1 million. This number would be axed after the 1st episode everywhere else.
Green Arrow don't even need to put in much effort, they can easily be the network's second highest or highest debut.

I would disagree. Smallville and Supernatural was given an extra long life due to them being moved to Fridays. Smallville was able to hold solid numbers and gain the highest 18-39 numbers for their timeslot beating CBS, ABC, NBC and FOX for a number of episodes. Beating the big 4 at 18-39 ratings is amazing. Largely due to both Smallville and Supernatural being paired together on fridays. Yes, its the deathslot, but considering at the deathslot, it was able to get solid numbers, the studio would definitely put that into consideration. Besides even on fridays, Smallville was the 2nd highest rated show on CW. Thats why it went on for 10 season.

Plus its a well known fact CW is just a dummy network where CBS and WB uses it to gain net worth for their shows and actual revenue comes from international sales and DVD. Reason why Nikita was renewed was due to its solid overseas sales.

Actually looking at their promo you can tell that they're ****ing out Arrow and Carrie Diaries. No surprises there since both shows already have in built audience and received tons of media attention even before the series premier.
My guess is that Hart of Dixe, 90210 and Emily MD might be getting the cut this year.
Beauty and the Beast should do well, but considering the fact that they're being paired with TVD, it puts extra pressure on them to perform. Just like Secret Circle.

I wouldnt be surprised if this is 90210s last year, CW just wanted to get them to 100 episodes so they can get a nice syndication deal.

The CW also doesnt reach as many households as the big nextworks do, though some of their shows would probably do better if on another network. Just look at The Game, getting CW numbers while on The CW, but they moved to BET and premired to like 8mil.

The fact that this is on The CW and not NBC or Fox gives me a hopeful feeling for the show.

He's gonna wear a mask under the hood how sweet is that.

Doing better in ratings doesn't matter because they're competing with the other shows in CW, not shows in all the network.

I know that. I'm saying they would have the possibility of surviving on other networks.

Right. I think it just has to be the right network. Would these shows work on CBS? No. These shows are serialized and aimed at a younger audience. CBS shows are episodic and aimed at the old. But, say... The Vampire Diaries on ABC or ABC Family? That could work.
