Green Arrow series in the works at The CW - Part 1

How is that stupid. When they can highlight issues folks have with drugs, stds, and what not. Was it stupid when shows like one tree hill did it or sv, etc..... countless other shows.

Ya as long as it holds anywhere in 2-4mill viewers ratings will be fine. Plus hasn't the new cw president also mentioned they are looking to downloads, streaming options to judge successes more then just counting on neilson ratings, which I still say they need to be massively revamped.

Comicbook kid why do you ultimately think it would be stupid, cheesy if they did roy/mia. There is a lot of good things we can get out of that. With green arrow growing as a character and see the lone wolf approach isn't the only way things can be done.

Plus like I mentioned befoee they can get into dinah/black canary relationship angle with dinah and ollie. And for roy they can go into his drug problems, and him fathering a kid. Which could play into a good psa episode, and same with mia with her hooker backbround and having aids/std and all that.

If anyone is going to get the drug treatment it will probably be the partying little sister character. The actress already played it on the OC if I remember correctly. No need for Roy or Mia.

Sure they could have another vigilante, but a sidekick image of multiple "Arrows" is silly. He's already using his bow like a staff in the preview. Assuming he's gotten trained on the island, some kid picking it up takes away from the one man army.

So far, this is a personalize hit list. This isn't Bats' war on crime.

And like I said they wouldn't need to make mia or roy kid/teen they could age them up to ollie age. And they be partners, then like I said it can give growth to ollie character. That the lone wolf as I said approach isn't the only way to tale out the bad in the city.

And if they only go with the hitlist thing really how long you think that plot would work. And would get stale if that is only folks ollie is going after. When they can adapt ga villains, do the corrupt mayor turn villain thing. And other stuff.

I have always thought the whole arrow family thing was stupid, I have no interest in seeing partners. For those complaining about not wanting a batman rip off, if they bring in sidekicks they would be doing just that.

For me GA in the comics is way to convoluted and thats why they can never really nail down the character. You have his son, roy, mia. Thats way to many characters when they can barely right an enjoyable GA run.

Hopefully this series is a back to basics. One guy fighting crime in the city. Once sidekicks come in you know they'll have jumped the shark.

Also, Ive been reading comments, maybe not on here, that people want this to last as long as smallville. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'd rather they not have ten mediocre to poor seasons just for the sake of reaching that number.

Roy Harper doesn't have to be Speedy, Roy Harper is also known as Arsenal and if I remember correctly he often uses guns along with other arrows. Roy doesn't have to be his sidekick, he doesn't have to be his partner. They can be two vigilantes that have a common enemy like the saying goes "A enemy of my enemy is my friend.". They can spin it so that the media misinterprets their relationship.

One aspect of the Nolan films that should be explored especially on a tv show is once you have a costumed vigilante your gonna have copy cats. That is something I'd like to see explored more.

I'm not concerned with bringing in sidekicks at this point. It has to succeed at the basics of a TV show first before it can even think about enlisting collaborators for Ollie's war on crime.

Seriously. I mean, I get the excitement. But we're really counting our eggs before they've hatched.

Yes. It's stupid.

One Tree Hill and Smallville should never be used as a standard for anything, except how not to do Arrow.

Funny how bringing in Roy automatically leads to a cliche drug addiction storyline.

This show deserves better than that crap.

You're not in the minority. I'm for quality over quantity as well.

I like the idea of copycat vigilantes, but I'm not a fan of any of them being skilled archers on Oliver's level.

Oliver trained extensively for 5 years on the island. He has almost superhuman accuracy. He has a very unique talent.

From a storytelling point of view, it's way too soon for any sidekicks anyway.

Oliver's Arrow needs some years to establish himself with audiences before you can think about bringing in another character like him (like Arsenal):

Oliver is only 27 in Arrow. We saw how bad Smallville's Supergirl turned out when they brought her in and made her the same age as Clark...

They shouldn't screw up logic to try and shoe-horn these characters in out of context.

I gotta give props to the costume designer. Ollie's costume kooks a lot better then Smallville's version of his costume.

I didn't say anything about their age. Introducing Mia or Roy for a drug story is silly. The little sister has an already established connection of a family member with a drug problem if they need it. Plus it can foreshadow why he'll be that way towards drugs in the future as a nod to the fans without alienating the newbies.

This is a personal story is about him getting revenge for his father. How do you bring in someone else without it just being another revenge story on the exact same people?

As I said, MY NAME IS EARL as a key.

You think taking out one drug lord is enough until you realize how much damage he's done to this particular neighborhood and one target becomes several.

Ollie's supposed to grow a sense of purpose. Turning his personal anger towards a greater purpose of helping not just his own need for revenge is a multiple year story.

It's good to read the enthusiasm for the show, I've only read one GA book and am not really familiar with all the players in his city, which may be a good thing as the show might well vary and change up a lot of it.

I'm really hoping we can see China White. I think she'll make a good realistic villain. But ofcourse I hope we get to see villains from the bigger DCU that are non powered. Perhaps deadshot or Prometheus.

It would be good to get some pics of these characters in here to see how they might be adapted for the TV show.

Any designs done for character in Arkham based games seem to be pretty realistic and transferable to live action (Batman himself notwithstanding of course as he is still in full on skintight)

Protocida already did a great job few pages ago :)

The Riddler was one of Green Arrow's enemies when he was a goth Joker.

Solomon Grundy was also a recurring foe from times to times.

One of my favorites is the Duke of Oil, a robot that is also a rich texan oil baron.

Clock King

Not sure if people know this but Clock King was a GA villain until Batman stole him >:(

Sling Shot.
Slingshot_02.jpg

A psychotic and a cop-killer, David Drayson is one of Green Arrow's most dangerous opponents. He employs a number of weapons via his sling. He was recently killed by the villain known as Cupid.

I thought Slingshot could be pretty fun as well. He first appeared in the 70s, but was reintroduced in arrow/canary.

Thanks sethypants, I didn't realize GA had such an expansive rogues gallery.
I think China White, Merlyn, Slingshot, Constantine Drakon, Onomatopeia and Deathstroke could all work, and it would be cool to see The Riddler with his storm troopers but I can't see them getting the right to use him.

Even though he would need some rejigging I think Steel Claw looks fun as well. :D

This show deserves better than that crap.

Excuse me? OTH and SV ran for more than 9 seasons. If there is anything you could take from those series it would be how to achieve longevity. I would just call that crap if you are getting between 3-4 million viewers a week watching your show. I can't even believe you said that.

I just saw the pilot described by someone who's viewed the whole thing as Batman Begins meets Dexter meets Revenge.

I am aroused with excitement. :o:up:

Quality over Quantity. Such things aren't always mutally exclusive.

SV's longevity was at the show's creative expense. SV, One Tree Hill, Charmed, 7th Heaven etc all played towards the 'shipper' demographic on the CW network to keep it afloat. They were soaps.

Personally, I think "Arrow" deserves much better. IMO do "Arrow" with dignity or don't do it at all.

So far their "Batman Begins" approach is the perfect approach. Let's see how it's executed and whether the commercials are misleading or not.

Quality is subjective. What may be considered quality to some may not be the case for the targeted market. The truth of the matter here is that these series ran for so long that they must have had some level of quality that was acceptable to both viewers (the target market) and the producers. Furthermore, these shows received numerous awards and nominations from various institutions. It would be ridiculous to think that they were crap.
