Halo 4 - Part 1

I love it and I've been playing the MP heavily since Halo 2. I hate the boltshot and it's super killability, but other than that I'm extremely pleased with it. Dare I say the best Halo MP yet?
Great. That's what I think but I'm a relative newcomer having only played Halo 3 multiplayer years after it came out and played a reasonable amount of Reach. I've just read a lot of complaints recently on various other forums. Also did Halo get taken out of the competitive gaming circuit?

No clue, I don't follow that. BTW, what complaints have you been reading?

I'll have to try and remember specifics (which I can't right now, partly probably because I didn't know exactly what they were talking about) but most complaints certainly involved some comparison to previous games. People seem to love either/both Halo 1 or/& 2, complain a bit about 3 & a lot about Reach & 4. Until recently I thought it had been received really well by everyone.

Edit: & getting taken out of the 'MLG' was one of the 'proofs' given.

How has the multiplayer been received by the hardcore guys who play it all the time? Hearing mixed things on that.

Ive played the Halo multiplayer since CE splitscreen/LAN (if thats what you mean by hardcore) and every multiplayer online afterwards and I think 4 is better than Reach multiplayer but not as good as the first three games. I think the serious lack of maps is a large factor to this.

That's a good point. There aren't enough maps right now. Luckily I've got that season pass thing, so I'll have a ton of maps eventually, but right now there isn't much. 343 just started a forge test playlist that's pretty good. I played on a remake of Lockout that made me very, very happy.

They did?! I was wondering when Forge would appear in MM, darn it I didn't bring my Xbox to college!! Thats good to hear. I haven't played H4 in a month.

There are some decent forge maps. I just hope they don't replace the actual maps like in Reach. That pissed me off. Too many Forge maps.

The Forge maps in H4 are actually decent... I agree...Just don't have them appear more often than regular maps.

Good to know. I guess all the DLCs will have map packs so hopefully they get those out soon.

H4 online has the potential to be the best of the games when it comes to MP... They just need more maps... And less Jetpack. :p

AND WHERE IS MY GRIFFBALL PLAYLIST DAMNIT!!!

I read someplace that Griffball is coming next week or shortly thereafter in an update.

So I have a Halo 4 tournament to go to tomorrow and I'm ****ing sick. Been sick all week. It's a 2v2 team tournament and my best friend and I were going to take that tournament to town!

I am playing through Halo 4 for the first time. I am liking it a lot, game sure is might purdy. The Cortana/Chief stuff is all really good, makes me wish they had gotten into his head so to speak from the start.

My one complaint is the use of the Covenant in this game. I feel like they were REALLY shoehorned in this game and maybe I'm just burnt out on them. My favorite bits are definitely fighting the Prometheans even though they have like 3-4 units. Hopefully 343 uses the Covenant less in future games.

Just finished the game.

I thought the Didact boss fight was a little dumb. The story of Halo 4 is in a lot of ways very ho-hum. Most of the UNSC characters are pretty flat, the Didact isn't all that well developed and I still feel like the Covenant being here was a misstep.

All that being said I am really honestly surprised how much I liked this game in spite of its faults. I loved what they did with Cortana and Chief and just on the sheer emotion of all of that I went into the final level pumped up as hell, any game that can illicit that is doing something right. So all in all - I really enjoyed Halo 4 and looking forward much more to 5 than a week ago. Hopefully they can keep developing Chief along these lines while tightening up their larger narrative a bit.

Totally disagree about the Covenant. They make for far, far more interesting and varied encounters than the Prometheans.

Well then they can expand the Prometheans as a faction, I've been fighting the Covenant for 6 games now. Their role as total mooks and lackeys made their superfluousness pretty obvious, I mean how huge is this splinter faction supposed to be?

The Covenant was pretty huge. No idea how big this one in particular is, but there are probably lots of splinter factions.

I don't know, I feel like it takes a bit away from the ending of Halo 3 to have this huge and angry army of Covenant troops still hanging around. We resolved all that stuff already, if they are just going to use them as lackeys for bigger bads I'd rather they just develop their new enemies more.

If it means having to fight more Promethean Knights, then I say stick with the Covies. Good God I hate the Prometheans.

Ho-hum? The story was great... Right out of Halo lore.

BTW Episode 7 of Spartan Ops was really ****ing cool. Took the bland "Go here and shoot these guys" recipe and shook it up a bit. Also, I completed the Pathfinder perk and being able to move at regular speed with a mounted turret is AWESOME! I paired that with my Wheelman ability and now I'm unstoppable in a Mantis. Sooo much fun.

I never had a problem with Spartan Ops...but now that it's even less like an expanded Fire Fight... I'm happy.

I didn't have a problem with it either, I play it a lot, I was just extremely pleased when the formula got changed just a tad in Episode 7.
