The Xbox One - Part 4

I think, just for the record, MS did make a decent profit on the 36O gen, but the original Xbox was such a huge loss in terms of profit it only kind of evened out. This gen's profit margins are going to say a lot about how profitable the brand is in the long run.

Also, I think it's pretty obvious that MS is shifting away from a game console to entertainment system that just happens to play games amongst it's many other features. I don't see how you can come to any other conclusion. I won't be surprised in the least if we get a rebranding to differentiate it from it's traditional gaming roots.

I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with a media hub. The PS3 was a media hub last gen.. The entire first half of its life they touted that it was a Blu-ray player every bit as much as it was a gaming machine.

I don't think the One is shifting away from games at all.. The games are still front and center. Does it do other things? Absolutely.. But even with its media features they talk about how they can be used with games, etc.

I'm fine with systems branching out.. I mean.. You can do more with a computer than just play games.. And I never hear the PC Elite complain about that. Suddenly tho since it's the Xbox that's bad and they're obviously changing for the worse.

The Xbox is known for gaming.. Simple. Could we see OTHER Xbox products that aren't gaming related? Sure.. Xbox DVR, Xbox Hub, etc.. No biggie if so.

Sad thing is I see sooooo many people hoping for MS to fail.. That may be the biggest thing that annoys me about gamers. No one here that I can tell but else where.. Yes. It's like half the haters of the XB1 simply can't afford it so it socks and they want MS to drop the brand.. When if this system were to fail (I don't think it will) then Sony would take a hit because they would have zero competition.. Nine times out of ten get lazy..

And no, I don't consider Nintendo competition at this point.

I wouldn't say they're shifting away from making games, but I definitely feel like the focus on games is starting to drift, and games will be looked at as more of one feature amongst many. The way MS marketed the One, especially in the beginning, tells me they already have this mindset to a degree.

It'll change, lol. Companies always come in with these bug, expanding ideas on how to improve their brand.. Then they come back to games when they realize it's the bread and butter they need.

MS, right now, is simply going through the phase Sony went through with the ps3. It will pass. :p

Eh, I wouldn't be so sure. MS is a much different and expansive company than Sony, and I think their goals are bigger than simply winning a format war with Blu-ray. And again, I want to emphasize that I don't think they'll drop games, but I feel like we're already seeing the seeds planted were games are one feature amongst many, as opposed to a primary gaming device that just happens to do other stuff. A rebranding in the not too distant future would not surprise me.

I would just like to say that playing my ps4 through my Xbox One has no real noticable difference. I expected lag and all sorts of stuff... Nope.

Neat feature, lol.

I think the name of the console says that. It wasn't by accident that MS called it the One. As long as MS keeps doing what they have been doing early in the XB1s lifecycle(buying up the rights to Titanfall, purchasing a proven IP) then im all for their focus being spread out. I want a device that does everything and the XB1 is closer to being that than any other console out right now.

I'm pretty sure MS makes a profit on the overall property, they just lose money on the systems for a few years.

Well, XBL is being dumb.. It's saying they can't check the rights for my CoD.. So.. I can't play it. Our DRM Over Lords have awoken.

I'm still waiting for my PS4 to become a media hub.........:o

I want an all out media hub. Shame the X1 doesn't have 10 HDMI In slots lol. But it needs to do media as well as any other huge company would on a non gaming media hub and it needs to do gaming as well as is expected of the generation. That means TitanFall, Gears & Halo fine plus lots more good new IPs, and with comparable performance on multiplatform games.

As a fan of IGN.. The ps4 foes have that app.
I'll trade you the IGN app for that ESPN app :word: Although I'm not sure if it's on X1, I was jealous of my brother having it on his 360 :hehe:.

I seriously freaked out last night though. CoD wouldn't load.. Kept saying I didn't own the rights, then I put in Ryse and *it* wouldn't load... Then my controller stopped working.

I was ready to throw crap out the widows..

Then I unplugged it... All was well after that. :p

Haha well man i wouldn't breath too easily yet. Iv already had to send my XB1 back to MS for repairs. The system stopped reading the discs.

Well I just got a new oak TV stand.. And I'm hoping that where I have it doesn't cause it to over heat.. With the amount of vents on the thing I'm not entirely sure how it would. :p

I still have first 360 paranoia.

It's 20 times as big as a VCR from the 80s, has its own power brick and has air vents coming out of its ass lol. If that thing still manages to overheat something is very wrong.

Haha yea I was messing with the placement of my consoles last night and the One doesn't get nearly as hot as my 360. I said before launch that the One could(and prob would) have issues, but overheating wouldn't be one of em.
