Hans Zimmer Scoring The Man of Steel - Part 2

Frankly I don't think John Williams' score is as memorable as everyone assumes it is. When most people think of the "Williams Superman music" they really mean the Williams main theme ("da-dadadada..."), nothing more. I'm sure his Star Wars music is more memorable in part due to more films and merchandise using it.

Some few will also think of "Can You Read My Mind", but that's a song with lyrics.

Even fewer will be able to recognize other pieces from Williams's score by ear. Probably not even the Krypton fanfare.

You're right about Star Wars. Star Wars has many themes and the Imperial March is just as recognizable as the main theme. But even though the Kryptonian fanfare may be lesser known, it's still more recognizable than many other main superhero and movie themes. I'd put it up there with Han and Leia's and Luke and Leia's themes, in comparison.

Ah, I understand now. Yah, that was kind of annoying how they reused that same bit - but I still think its a nod to the first film. In BB, the music played for Ra's Al-Ghul. In TDKR, it plays with his daughter Talia. That's the only reason why I didn't mind that sequence's scoring too much.

A part of it also played during the Joker's fall in TDK. Honestly, I personally enjoyed it and it made sense to me as being a recurring cue for when Batman "wins." But hey, I just really love the TDK trilogy scores in general.

On topic, so far I'm liking what I've heard from MoS. I'm not going to jump the gun and say "best thing ever!" based on samples, but I am very excited for it and think it sounds pretty darn good so far.

of course the scores of John Williams will be memorable since it was released years ago, if that was Hans Zimmer people would say the same thing.

To call this soundtrack your favorite of Zimmer's based on 90 sec previews, is like calling MOS your favorite movie based on trailers. Lets just see how it all plays out.

Oh honey, don't be like that. Let them get their expectations get so high that nothing will ever suffice. :o

HAH! You say that as if a lot of people on here haven't made that choice yet.

I just want to the full soundtrack, but I doubt i'll listen to it before I watch the movie. I don't like knowing all the music before seeing a movie because that's all I focus on when I do.

Soundtrack is not out yet right? when is it out?

Guys, the soundtrack will be released on June 11. Just be patient.

I am keeping an eye on Empire website this Tuesday. Maybe they will stream the whole score like they did The Dark Knight Rises a week before release. If they don't I am still betting on it leaking by Tuesday.

Every time I see this thread at the top of the forum, I come in wondering if the scores been leaked :p

Oh yeah!

@Latinoreview: Cool to see @Pharrell involved with Daft Punk and as a featured musician in MAN OF STEEL soundtrack. He's in the Drum Orchestra.

No, he was talking about Pharrell's collaboration on both DP's new album and the MoS soundtrack.

Oh I got it, the thought of Daft Punk doing a Superman score actually got me thinking how awesome that would be.

Pharrell's involvement was mentioned in the MOS Soundtrack Press Release last month. It's not really new "news". lol

In addition to his orchestral arrangements, Zimmer, no stranger to stepping outside the confines of traditional film scoring, has assembled two unique musical entities to contribute music to Man of Steel. The first, a drum orchestra, which was brought together for the album, is described by soundtrack co-producer Peter Asher as some of the best drummers in the world all playing simultaneously in a space designed for a symphony orchestra using not only rock drum kits but tympani and field drums as well.

The membership of this elite assembly consisists of many of today s top musicians including John JR Robinson, Jason Bonham, Josh Freese, Pharrell Williams, Danny Carey, Satnam Ramgotra, Toss Panos, Jim Keltner, Curt Bisquera, Trevor Lawrence Jr., Matt Chamberlain, Ryeland Allison, Bernie Dresel, Vinnie Colaiuta and Sheila E. Their contribution, under Zimmer's musical direction, creates a towering and powerful musical accompaniment to the film.

Another distinctive group the composer assembled was a gathering of eight of music's finest pedal steel guitarists who play classical string section parts. This collective, consisting of Chas Smith, Marty Rifkin, Skip Edwards, Boo Bernstein, Peter Frieberger, Rick Schmidt, JD Maness, John McClung, was described by Asher as, a uniquely new metallic orchestra added it's own distinct and soaring musical stamp to the soundtrack.

Daft Punk scoring Man of Steel would be beyond awesome. Their style of orchestral writing and usage of electronics are so much more sophisticated than Zimmer or any of his associates. And their command of theme writing is impeccable.

If only Snyder loved their music and wanted to work with them. Now I have to go back and listen to Tron Legacy again.

You're saying Zimmer sucks at orchestral writing?

Not that I completely disagree with you on Zimmer, but I find it kind of ironic that you mentioned Tron Legacy soundtrack being better than the work of Hans Zimmer, when he himself actually helped work on that score.

I like Daft Punk and the TL score, but I can think of 5 Zimmer scores in the last decade alone that were better, let alone his earlier work.
