Run of the mil my arse. This is easily sounding like one of the best soundtracks of the year.

I was one of the people slightly upset about the score from Trailer 3 (I've grown to love it lol), and even before that I thought it sounded 10x better than the Iron Man 3 OST lol

I'm with ya. I've been looking for a stream for the past month. Lol, too excited!!

I was pleasantly surprised by IM3 score.

He means Remote Control Productions, Zimmer's company that houses lots of composers who work in a similar style to Zimmer.

I think the MOS score sounds awesome though. My guess is most people who loved his TDK trilogy scores will love it, he'll win over a few skeptics, but most of his detractors will remain unconvinced.

This is so awesome. I wish my high school band director was this cool!

Me, too. I'd actually say I really like/love it. There's a clear theme and I think it works well to pump you up during the movie and while listening to it in the car.

Really need to here this soundtrack in full. I'm already humming the bits we've heard.

Man I can't wait to hear the full song of the music in the Nokia Trailer, right after "Every person can be a force for good, if he can forge his destiny."

I can't wait to listen to this at the gym and on my runs starting Tuesday. I may try to take off, emergency room be ready.

I've been listening to the 90 second samples at the gym for the last few weeks, it's awesome to train to, super motivating.

That's pretty cool! I remember back in high school the director had us do the Elfman Batman theme for a halftime show and we formed the bat symbol out on the field.....which was pretty awesome!

Zimmer's "Remote Control" Productions, in which all of Zimmer's protege's help him write the majority of his scores and produce scores of their own that all have the same flavor and characteristics. They create dozens of scores that feel bland and extremely similar (for example Steve Jablonski of RC composed the Transformers scores, which borrow heavily from Zimmers DK trilogy scores, especially the two-note main "motif").

I was hoping MOS would be a return to the good old days of Zimmer's better compositions, but it seems so far like its just the regular RC fluff that can be transposed onto any film. Music mass produced.

Are you telling me that last trailer didn't do anything for you? Play it and only listen to the track. what about An Ideal of Hope? Nothing? Dang. I hate to see what gets you going if that doesn't. the tracks I'm heard have a lot of color and emotion in my opinion. Cant want for the whole score.

I'm not sure what you mean. Was that supposed to be an insult?

I'm not a big Zimmer fan myself for most of the reasons you cited here, but from what I can tell, I would not call the MOS score "mass produced" at all. Going by Zimmer's Collider interview, he took the project incredibly seriously and put a lot of thought into how to approach each theme, spending almost too much time developing each one, and worrying about whether or not he could possibly follow up Williams. He has some insightful things to say about his inspiration for various pieces.

Not to mention, many of the people who've been coming out of recent screenings have mentioned how great the score is, and how much of a positive impact it had on the movie. More than one person has said something to the effect of: "I bought/pre-ordered the soundtrack minutes after leaving the theater." It sounds like he's produced something special here.

so basically you don't like his recent work so therefore it's "mass produced" and you feel you can say that like it's fact?

Why are people so sensitive? I mean dang. I just find it hard to believe that you wouldn't get evan a little bit pumped up for some of the tracks you've heard from MOS.

I said the RC work feels mass produced because it is so collaborative and there are so many similarities between the scores. Its a fact that many of Zimmer's scores get handed off to his underlings to do most of the writing. Just one example among many: the most recent POTC score, On Stranger Tides, is credited to Zimmer as "composer," but a glance at the liner notes reveals that much of the score was also composed by Matthew Margeson, Geoff Zanelli, Guillame Roussel, Tom Gire, John Sponsler, Jacob Shea, Nick Phoenix, Thomas Bergersen, Eduardo Cruz, Eric Whitacre, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero. Its a musical score composed piecemeal like a factory line rather than largely by one artist.

RC work tends to be largely collaborative and thus all the scores receive much of the same generic sounds, reused motifs, and structures so that the pieces can be put together and rolled off the assembly line.

I'm not being sensitive. I was asking if you meant to be insulting / patronizing in your phrasing by asserting that my opinion is unbelievable, or if you in fact meant something else. It was an opportunity for you to clarify.

I tend not to get offended by forum discussions.

I've no doubt its popular, as are almost all Zimmer scores. At the risk of being misunderstood, though, I'll note that Justin Bieber's music is popular but many would hesitate to call it "something special." I'm not saying Zimmer is like Bieber (I'll head those straw men off at the pass) but I am saying popularity doesn't necessarily translate to quality in any direct logical fashion.

Nope. I'm not the one to insult anyone for their opinion. We all have different styles and tastes and thats cool. I could care less about who likes what in all honesty.

One thing that does irritate me (I'm not saying you did this) is when people try to get all profound in their reasoning for not liking something, and they start throwing factual assumptions out all over the place.

I completely agree with this. However, when someone says they like a musical score and want to immediately go out and buy it, I'd say that's a little more indicative of a good piece than, say, someone liking a shirt design and wanting to go buy it. Most people don't truly appreciate musical (instrumental) soundtracks in my experience.

The thing is RC music has a similar style and tone in terms of the productions style.

But Hans Zimmer as a composer still has his own voice, and I hear that voice coming through in what I've heard of the MOS score.

Like I've said in the past though, I'm sure I won't love every cue, there will no doubt be a few dull sound design tracks on the album (which will work fine in the movie), but in terms of real emotional juice- I think this score will have plenty.
