He was actually in the running with Daniel Craig back in the day. In fact, I think (although I could be very wrong) he was actually cast as Superman in one of the failed iterations of Superman and the Bond casting search had moved on because he wasn't going to be available. It was something like that. Someone please correct me because I'm sure I got something wrong.

He was cast for McG's Flyby but that was a lot earlier than the Bond reboot.
I think he was in the running for the new Bond which ruled him out of doing Superman Returns as it would clash but he ended up getting neither.

He was runner-up to Daniel Craig and I believe director Martin Campbell's preferred choice for Casino Royale. Broccoli and Wilson were also very impressed, but they thought he was too young for the role as Bond is typically described as in his late 30s at the youngest in the Fleming novels.

There's just something about his acting and style that dosent strike me as Bond the way we know him. Confident in an arrogant way. If Cavill did that it would come off forced, I think. Unless it had a lot of humor and was more of a comedy really. Then I could see Cavill doing something a little over-the-top.

God, I love how Cavill so totally GETS this character.

On waking up during shooting and putting on the Superman suit:

On how long it took to get into costume:

Cavill is the man. I can't stress enough how much of a class act this guy is all the way. They've got lightning in a bottle again like they did with Reeve back in the day.

And I'm pretty sure 50 Shades' script will suck, so hopefully that's a "no" from Cavill haha. Sorry, mummy porn, he's Superman now. Dream on.

Cavil exudes too much pleasantness to be Bond. I mean, you look at the guy smiling and it lights up your day, perfect for Superman. But I'm not so sure that is a good quality for Bond. Being Bond requires a bit of a sinister streak. Daniel Craig's cruel mouth (straight from the books) and steely blue eyes are far more fitting. Lord help the next chap that has to play Bond. It'd be like following up Connery (yes, Craig is on that level).

He lost weight, IIRC. They did the suit fittings while he was training, and he got too big for the suit.

Might help, but I don't know, it's not just about age, but features as well. Age doesn't necessarily make someone look less wholesome. Craig has always had that darker look to him. He has literary Bond's cruel mouth as Excelsior mentioned. In 5 to 10 years, Cavill will probably just look like an older Superman. Just as wholesome and friendly looking, just more mature.
