Henry Cavill IS Superman: - Part 4

Yeah, Cavill's jawline is the traditional square-jawed Superman look. Routh has an oval shaped face and is not really square-jawed.

But more important than the jaw is the presence Cavill has. It is palpable and comes through in his still shots.

Routh simply didin't have that presence. Or Boswoth. They both look underwhelming in that photo.

Most actors don't. Cavill is, like Reeve, probably one of the few actors capable of doing the role justice because of his unique charisma/presence. IMO.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but let's remember we really don't know how good he will be in the role yet. He comes across very well in interviews, I've seen clips of him in certain things, but you just never know until you see some finished footage.
The Immortals footage we've seen isn't particularly impressive IMO.
But look, I'm completely behind this guy, I'm English so of course I want him to succeed. But I really don't have much of an idea how good he is as an actor.
He was in Woody Allen's Whatever Works, which I've seen some clips of. I'm a big Woody Allen fan, but I can't bothered to watch that particular film because it looks pretty bad.

^Exactly. If you enjoy his previous work I see no reason why one would be anything but optimistic about his chances of pulling of a great performance.

I'm hopeful not enthusiatic.

IMO MOS will do better than SR but will not be a 500 million plus blockbuster.

Cavill has a presence which comes across in his interviews and even in still photos. Something Routh did not have.

That presence is critical for any actor playing Superman.

Is Cavill a great actor? No. I've seen the Woody Allen film you mention and he did OK but nothing special.

He was stronger in the Tudors.

I'd describe him as a generally good actor with a strong screen presence. That and being surrounded by more solid actors like Crowe, Costner, Lane and Meloni should hopefully make the difference.

Enthusiastic - no, optimistic - yes.

last shot was already manipped!!

Damn. Even in the sub-par Superman Returns costume, Cavill looks badass. Wow. Exceptional work. :awesome:

I completely agree with you.

There is nothing he's done that's been stand out amazing in terms of acting. He's good on the Tudors. Totally shows talent and potential. And he was very charming in WW, in this kind of awkward way which I actually think was intentional.

But we need to see more to really judge his acting fully. That's not being down on Cavill, it's being fair to him. You shouldn't build him up as amazing only to have people tear him down.

As I've said before, I'll judge his acting based on Cold light of day, next year. Because I think that is where we will see a better range. Immortals is a bit different. You'd get as much of an idea of him as an actor as you would from Bale in Terminator: Salvation IMO.

You don't think The Tudors is enough. He showed a great range in that TV show.

Yeah it's really good don't get me wrong. Not 'blow me off my feet good', but good :) It's just one role on a TV show isn't much to go by.

And when your in with some big stars on a big budget film it's just different.

I hope Clark becomes Superman before Zod arrives on Earth... I wanna see Superman doing the things he became Superman to do... not to fight supervillains, but just here to help. An awesome montage of him helping in floods, building fires, flying people from danger, maybe even the old cliched handing a little girl her kitten from a tree.

At the moment, I’m thinking that Clark WILL become Superman and perform some heroic deeds before Zod’s presence is made known to the Public. I think that just as a good amount of the public is getting used to the idea of Superman, Zod comes in and messes things up by doing something evil, which gets Superman’s naysayers to get the public to further mistrust Superman since he and Zod are both kryptonian.

Or stopping a girl from committing suicide.

Yeah I'd love it that way too :)

This dude has as much charisma as Reeves did. Outside of RDJ we just don't see that anymore in these films.

Very curious to see that that translates into his american voice.

^ I haven't the foggiest clue what you're trying to say in your signature.

A 1960's Godzilla film can be as rewarding to watch as an Ingmar Bergman one when in the right frame of mind.

It's actually a direct quote, it always read clearly to me so I didn't bother fixing it (or even re-reading it for that matter). It is a very condensed form of two different points though. Character limits have their down sides.

should make more sense now.

That picture was taken a couple of months ago and I am sure that he is trying to get as big as he can possibly get before the start of shooting and if they shoot the scenes with Clark first then he would have even more time to add weight before the scenes in the skin tight outfit are filmed. He was not done bulking up by the time those pictures were taken so I am sure he will be a lot bigger by the time they start filming than he was in the pictures.

Not so much his muscles, but his proportions that don't really lend themselves to making him look tall/broad...certainly not like Hugh Jackman, for example...or even Routh for that matter with their lankier and broader frames. I'm a bit concerned that like Bale, the more muscle he puts one, the stockier and ultimately shorter he'll look without some considerable camera/efx enhancement, because of his natural proportions/frame....as opposed to, say, Hemsworth (Thor) and Evans (C.A.) who just naturally have longer arms/legs and broader shoulders regardless of extra muscle.

But it's not like we have a choice, so hopefully, everything will fall into place.
