He said he gained is 25lbs heavier than he was in Immortals. I remember the article as well. Frankly I'm glad that Cavill wore a loose shirt to hide his physique. He is not suppose to look big in a loose shirt. If he did, Clark would just look wrong.

There was obviously a strong use of camera angles and boxes. Photos of Welling in 'real life' tend to show his true size better.

Love him or hate him, I think physically Welling was as close to a perfect Superman body (in seasons 4-8 at least) that we'll get. Not a bodybuilder or really ripped, but just a big, muscley strong looking guy. The photo of him below with John Schneider (who's 6"3) is a good contrast with the recent Cavill pic; although they're both wearing baggy shirts in their respective photos, there's no disguising Welling's shoulders or chest.

Exellent example. People here are using the baggy shirt as an excuse to why the muscles weren't very visable, yet here, wearing an equally baggy shirt Welling manages to look HUGE.

Look, I'm not expecting Cavill to look like Welling here. His body type will never allow him to do that, but I'm just saying, the baggy shirt doesn't have that much to do with Cavills appearance. But this is something I'm actually not thinking to much about right now, I have accepted that we have to settle for a smaller looking Superman then what I was expecting.
My biggest issue is the suit.
When will it be released???
 
Don't we all. But after the first pic of brandon routh. I was a fan of his too as supes. I don't want to get to excited. Just in case it looks poo.
 
personally, i'm glad that Cavill doesn't have a Welling-like physique. Welling looks a bit gorilla-ish for my taste. Kellen Lutz has more of a physique i'd like to see for Superman.

however, neither of those actors portray the type of charisma and genuine honestly and humbleness that Cavill does in his interviews nor do they have the attractive facial features that Cavill does.

I have to agree with snyder. Cavill does exude a strange calm. And to me that's more superman than his damn body.

I never said he was, I just meant that if people were thinking Cavill wasn't very big because the guy next to him happened to look larger, then you should know that Lutz is ripped. Because even a large guy could look a little less imposing next to him.

And those pics are from this year, recent enough I believe.
 
an actor who is five foot tall could play superman guys. It just means the casting director has to hire people who are shorter than him. Gotta remember that everything is relative in a two dimensional image.

How tall are Michael Shannon and Kevin Costner?
 
The one thing Joe M has on Cavill is his size... the dude is huge. I saw him on tv the other day standing next to Mario Lopez, and at first I thought a kid was standing next to Joe. He seems like a really cool guy, but like Snyder said he just doesn't compare to Cavill, the way he speaks and holds himself.

Not that I'm saying Welling isn't big here, he is, this is from 4-5 when he was physically at his most muscular, but he is not wearing an equally baggy shirt, a good way to tell is how it hangs around the hips, if the tail is even all around the waist, it is an unfitted shirt, not designed for body types, whereas the shirt Welling is wearing the tail comes up to his waist, so it is a fitted shirt, which is more inclined to show of physique. As of now, Cavill could still be really muscularly defined, also being 2-3 inches shorter than Welling he only needs to put on 20-30 pounds less muscle to achieve the same definition.

I was a huge Joe Manganiello supporter when they were searching for a Superman.
He looks perfect, plus I had just read Birthright and there are many times in the book where you'd swear they based Supes off of him.
Also, he's a massive comic book fan, and a Superman one, and that sealed the deal for me.
But I think I got swept up in the excitement and I wasn't judging his acting like I usually would.
He's a pretty good actor on True Blood, but we need more than pretty good.
And Cavill just exudes the more important Superman qualities on and offscreen.

Cavill will rock it, I'm a full-on fan of his now. He's the perfect choice!

I was just pointing it out. And even if some actors are taller than others, we all know that there are ways around it, camera angles, off camera 'boosts' and so on and so forth. That's what a director of photography is for.

what is so funny is Zeus in trailer clearly states Theseus is a human lol dumb ign interviewer lol

I like the idea of a zod shorter than superman, the amount of power these people are packing just makes him all the more bad ass.

I like the idea of clark having tiny parent, all seasons was charming that way.

This is how I know snyder knows what he's doing. Cav-EL just seems to at like superman day and night. That damn smile.
