Which is sad, because the sound mix is terrible. I say this as someone who has a formal degree in sound engineering, and worked for a while in a professional studio.

It's sad because this just shows that Nolan is someone that won't let people do their job, and is delving into a territory that he has no expertise in. You can invoke an emotional response without having a crap sound mix.

I gave the movie a 9.5/10, and if the sound mix weren't so amateurish it would have been a 10/10.

It's not about clarity, it's about each track having it's own space to breath in the mix. When you have clashing frequencies as what was presented what you get is mud.

I had a feeling he would feel this way after TDKR came out and it was a crappy sound mix. What's funny is all of his other films, have a tremendous sound mix. It doesn't seem like Nolan takes constructive criticism very well.

Well said Tony. The sound mix is awful. Funnily enough, a large portion of the Academy will foolishly vote for it to win the Sound Mixing Oscar without even watching the movie.

Interstellar has become the Death Magnetic of movies. :hehe:

So are we looking at least 400 million overseas and at least 200 million in usa for at least 600 ww?

400 overseas is locked, but 200 in North America is not likely to happen. Hunger Games could hurt the film a lot. I would say 150 is locked in North America. Likely landing spot is probably around 165-170. High end if it holds well against Hunger Games is 180-185.

I hate to say it, but... Interstellar is the first of Nolan's films about which I can honestly say I have zero desire to ever see it again.
I liked it, and I'll definitely pick it up when it comes out on Blu Ray, but I wont see it again in theaters. Plus, there's too many good movies out that I rather see.

This year has had wayyyy too many good movies. I've been in the theater more in the past 2-3 months than I have in the past 5-6 years. It's crazy how many good movies are out right now.

I've been to the movies every week for the last 5 weeks, and I'll be going twice this week.

It's amazing.

But it is at about 100 million already in north America and that is after only a week and with thanksgiving coming up shouldn't that help? Also its second weekend didn't have that big of a drop off. Amazing spider man 2 got to like 203 million and it made I think 29 million more then interstellar on opening weekend so 203-19 would be 174 plus I think the world of mouth for this movie is better then asm2 was.

Yeah, it really is a ridiculously good year. With more to come too.

I'm seeing this a second time in IMAX with my gf next weekend though, sound mix be damned. The funny thing is I'm pretty sure she's not going to like it and I've warned her, but she's insisting on going anyway. But hey, I'll get my second IMAX viewing out of it so I can't complain.

So yeah, between tickets and all the popcorn...it's been a pricey fall movie season for me.

I saw TKDR twice in very different sized theaters and in the first one I really had to concentrate to catch Bane's dialogue.

I have been to the movies a lot more this year then normal to. In a normal year I probly go to the movies like 8 times. This year I have been to the movies I think like 14 times and I will probly go another 2 or 3 times before the year is over.

2016 is really going to be crazy though I may end up going to the movies like 30 times that year and may go poor lol

ASM2 was at $91.6m after opening weekend. Interstellar was at $49.6m after opening weekend. That's a difference of $42m, which would put your Interstellar target total at $161m. If Interstellar has the exact same legs as ASM2, it will finish at $110m. Obviously it will blow past that number. But no one knows how the film will hold against Hunger Games. I tend to think it's headed for 170ish, but could go a bit lower or higher than that.

I think the IMAX factor will help give it some legs. It's going to stay in IMAX theaters through the whole holiday season most likely now that they're not doing Hunger Games.

Hobbit 3 takes all the IMAX screens in mid-December. I am still skeptical that IMAX will stick to their guns with Interstellar in the face of a Hunger Games release. We'll find out next weekend if they fold under the pressure.

Are you sure I thought that asm2 only made like 80 opening weekend not 91.6. I would like for it to get to 200 to good of a movie to not deserver it. I guess 2 weeks form now we will have a really good idea of how much this movie will make has we will see just how much hunger games hurts this movie and we will have had thanksgiving weekend to see if that gives it a bost or not. Also by then the movie will have been out for about 3 weeks witch means that by then the movie will have made most of its money by then. Movies don't make much more after like a mouth. When does the movie came out in japan by the way?

Why is IMAX not doing HG?

Because they signed a contract with Paramount and WB first. Interstellar has over an hour of IMAX footage while Mockingjay has none. IMAX also seems very appreciative of how much Nolan has promoted their brand and format over the last 10 years.

Yes, I am certain ASM2 made $91.6 million.

According to WB's website, the movie comes out in Japan on November 22, so next Saturday.

Oh ok I was thinking that asm2 did less then that even though I love asm2 I no it didn't live up to the hype box office or fans wise. Oh ok I wonder how much it will make in japan with that being the last place for the movie to come out.

Japan is a mysterious market. Sometimes they embrace a movie in ways you never expect, like with Frozen. But then other times a movie might flop that you don't expect. I could see Interstellar flopping hard or being a big hit. Just never know. South Korea and China are eating it up big time.

Yeah I heard before that japan is a hard place to guess. Not that the movie is doing bad but I think like a mounth before the movie came out that the movie would be more like a 800 ww movie then maybe 600 but I think that was because it got talked about has a ascore movie where even the reviews are not bad it is not a 90 RT movie like I think a lot of people thought it would be. Yeah who would have thought that frozen would do so while. I remember when frozen came out it didn't do amazing on opening weekend its just the movie kept making money ever week in stead of having big drops ever week like most movies. Where I live most movies are only in theaters for like a month and a half but frozen was in theaters for like 4 months witch is by far the longest I can remember a movie being in theaters for.

Even if it got a score of 90 on RT, this movie is not for everyone. Memento got a score in the 90's on RT and we all know that one is definitely not for everyone either.

Interstellar will blow away some audience members and it will turn off some audience members. I think it is doing very well considering the fact that it's not the most easy to watch movie out there.

While yeah but there are some people that lisnes to reviews so if a movie get better reviews then people will be more inclide to go to a movie. I am not one of them. There are pletty of movies I have liked or even loved with ok to bad reviews and pletty of movies I hated or thought where ok with good or even great reviews. This movie blew me away though no don't.

I saw Dracula Untold despite the reviews and was pretty surprised to see it's not that bad of a movie. I can understand why people complained about it because it does make Dracula into a superhero and there is very little blood in the film, but I still enjoyed the movie overall.

Yeah I heard a lot of bad reviews with that movie but there are people like you that liked the movie. I never saw it. I also thought that the new tmnt was pretty good really funny and had some good action but then that movie a lot of people hated. If a movie looks interesting to me form the trailers then I will go and see it. Now if I am kind of on the fence about a movie then I will let the reviews decide if I am going to see a movie or not.
