Interstellar - Part 9

I saw "Interstellar" in 70mm IMAX last night, flawed movie yes but visually awesome movie nonetheless. There were times where my girlfriend who saw it with me had gasped at the sheer scope of it in space and what have you. The showing we went to was sold-out. I can't see this movie bombing. We travelled 3 hours to see it in 70mm IMAX. It was worth it. I might see it again at the Digital IMAX theater that's only an hour away.

It didn't bomb and has performed quite well, so your perception is correct.

I would like to see a prequel of Interstellar. I think a movie that follows the Lazarus missions would be very cool. We only know what happened to 3 of the 12 (was it 12?) missions, so there is plenty of material to cover. I would love to see more about them finding the wormhole, figuring out what it was, testing it out. Plus a nice tie in to Anne and possibly Matt to showing up at the end as we check in on the progress they have made.

It would've been cool if a Nolan regular made a cameo as [blackout]Edmunds (either in just a pic or even funnier if he was at the end with Brand to ruin Cooper's return). [/blackout] Maybe Murphy, JGL, or even Bale.

My friend who knew that [BLACKOUT]Damon[/BLACKOUT] is appearing in a cameo actually thought that [BLACKOUT]he's playing Edmunds[/BLACKOUT]. Every time [BLACKOUT]Edmunds[/BLACKOUT] is mentioned, she kept on whispering, "That's [BLACKOUT]Damon[/BLACKOUT], right?"

His chances are between slim and none of getting a Director nomination. The movie's story is too convoluted and not in the right genre to sit well with enough of the Academy.

They'd probably throw it a bone and give it a BP nod but Director doesn't seem likely IMO (especially with only 5 slots).

The Academy pretty much hates Sci-Fi movies. An unknown indie movie will win best picture if there is nothing else out there for them

Maybe Nolan will end up having the record for most DGA nominations without an Academy nomination.

Imo, not a topic that needs spoiler tags. But just in case...

Warped space/wormholes (at least hypothetically) offer “convenient” access to distant parts of the Universe - without all the problems associated with near-lightspeed travel (e.g., time dilation). Moreover, faster-than-light travel is a clear violation of physics - whereas wormholes are not. So I don’t see any dramatic advantage that Nolan could have gotten from a fanciful FTL scene that wasn’t already provided by the more realistic wormholes and black holes.

Organs are only built in churches. (Except for my high school piano teacher who had an electronic organ in her house because she was OBSESSED with music.)

So the immediate associate to organ music is religious and otherworldly. It really is perfect for space, for that reason. You automatically associate with being not from this world.

And I would argue against organ music necessarily being "creepy." One of my absolute favorite pieces of music is Saint-Saens' Organ Symphony Finale, aka the theme from Babe. It makes me absolutely cry with joy.
