Aside from that, fact can be stranger than fiction.

Indeed it can. One trip to a quantum physics wikia or textbook yields more bizarre things than one could possible imagine being true in our universe.

good scifi movies are better than bad fantasy movies. good fantasy movies are better than bad scifi movies. :)

if Interstellar was from Night movie fans and critics would destroy the movie.plus when Night has in every movie a predictable twist its bad. when Nolan has forced twist in the second or third acts movie after movie its no big deal.

Interstellar is a good movie. obvious . but to use M.Night as an example?

I was just responding to Marvel's post where he brought it up. Yeah, people might hammer it for the twist if it was M. Night. But I think the overall quality of the whole production would still be miles ahead of anything he's done in forever.

It's unfair to say that people are "giving it a pass" just because it's Nolan. I go into a Nolan movie expecting to get a Nolan movie. Just like I do with a Bay movie, an Abrams movie, a Cameron movie, etc. You're opening yourself up to their worlds and there's some familiarity that comes with that.

Not only that, but Nolan pulls it off much better than M. Night does. I loved Interstellar for being a truly ambitious film that nearly pulls it off. Michael Bay could have directed it and I'd still have loved it. Sadly, Nolan is one of the few working directors today whose willing to tackle films of this scale and complexity. I'd much rather have an ambitious film that comes close to achieving its goal over a safe, rudimentary film that does everything right. The former is much harder and typically more likely to be remembered. I think that's why Interstellar, despite being one of Nolan's more flawed films IMO, is possibly my favorite film of his. It represents more than just merely a sum of its parts - it's much bigger than that.

I'm not exactly sure where this movie fails, other than sound mixing. I think it pulled it off fine, the successes are massive and greatly exceed the minuses.

The hypothetical Interstellar directed by Shyalaman is irrelevant, if he had directed it it would have been a different movie. He made After Earth just last year.

Sound mixing seems to be a theater specific issue. The first theater I saw it in was horrendous - missed half the dialogue. I saw it at another theater and heard every line crystal clear.

My only qualms with the movie are some of the clunky scripting moments. But I agree with you that the positives far outweigh the negatives and that my grievances are very minor. I wouldn't be seeing it a 4th time tomorrow if I didn't think they did. :cwink:

It's a fact that Nolan diehards like to watch all his work through rose colored glasses but any other director that would have ended his film in the same manner (for one example) would be mocked out of the cinema. Put the words "m knight shyamalan" over this title or have Nolan use a pseudo name and release the exact same cut and most people would be blasting this thing unmercifully. There honestly can be no doubt about that.

The only thing that can't be doubted is you are attempting to project your opinion of the film onto everyone else. It is very possible for people to have a completely different reaction than you and to not be a bunch of brainwashed sheep as you continue to strongly imply in your posts.

Honestly...if M. Night had made Interstellar, you might have people people calling it a major comeback/return to form. If Spielberg had made this movie, the reception might be even better.

If anything, most of the bias I'm seeing towards this movie is more of a bias against Nolan.

Like DA Champion says, everyone brings a level of bias into the movie theater one way or another.

Come on, mayne. :whatever:

I'm not complaining about it. Backlash is inevitable when someone gets super popular and that's fine. But it's blatantly out there and it's not so subtle in most cases, just calling it like I see it. Not even saying people are "out to get" the movie, I believe anyone who paid money to see Interstellar hoped to like it. But these days I do think a lot of people like to knock him down a peg, while at the same time holding his films to a higher standard (ironically). It's the reason so many sites are running like 10 clickbait articles on "Everything wrong with Interstellar" a day, people eat that crap up. It's kind of a fascinating love/hate relationship Nolan's developing with the audience.

Nolan is the victim here.

Ha, I do love me the edit function. And editing is what I do for a living, so...yeah. :O

Well, I personally love seeing the context of your posts change every time I refresh. Never change, Batlobster. :oldrazz:

*I'll edit this later to look annoyed.

I personally am a fan of the man, but even I gave this barely a positive.

He is still in my top tep directors working today, but not my number one.

Lol, I honestly just went "screw it, it's Friday...a gif is always more fun." In hindsight Judge Judy...may not have been the best choice.

Considered seeing this again last night, but I decided I want to see it during the day or early evening so I can be super fresh for the second viewing.

The standard soundtrack has been leaked. In fact, I'm downloading it right now. :cwink:

Maybe it's just me reading too much science literature over the years but was the 5th dimensional concept confusing to some people?

It confused me when I first saw it. The whole thing that time is on a plane and not a straight line really screwed my brain. The cause can come before the effect is such brain short circuit, thus the time plane. The 5th dimension explanation really helped explain this. The video of NDT someone posted earlier is a very good, simple explanation.

Soundtrack is leaked. Not going to post the link here for obvious reasons, but man is it glorious :D
