James Bond In Skyfall - Part 3

I think there's so many YOLT homages in other films because it's really the first Bond film to start toying with the more outlandish elements that the series ultimately became famous for. The previous 3 films had some fantastical moments but for the most part were far more grounded in comparison.

You mean previous 4. I agree with you that the silliness was really amped up in YOLT although it can be argued the clowning around first started in GF.

Update #3 of my James Marathond (?)

You Only Live Twice, I think it was a subtle change of style. It was weird to see a japanized Sean Connery, but it was entertaining. Some parts dragged on for too long. And like I said earlier, how much of an influence it was for modern movies (The Incredibles being only one example).

On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Oh boy. I think my biggest problem is that I can't see James Bond in Lazenby's portrayal. Is just a regular spy. I have no problem with the actor, is just that is hard to have that James Bond feel in there. One thing I did like about the actor is that it had faster movements, it was a nice-fighting Bond. More attitude when it came to fight or gun scenes. The car chase was also better than what I've seen so far from the Connery era.
But it's too damn long, and overall is just difficult to qualify it among Bond films.

Diamonds Are Forever tonight.

Don't go in expecting a Quantum of Solace style revenge flick. Or a revenge flick at all, really.

Should I just skip it? I mean, I wanna see all movies, but if I'm gonna waste 2 hours of my life, then forget it :p

It's definitely the worst (or, most disappointing) out of all the Bond movies.

But hey, it's a marathon, right? Every era had a bad entry or two.

Yes, you're right. Ok, gonna watch it.

There are definitely some good bits about DAF and although it's the worst of the Connery entries, it's still not bad. It's just more like a Moore movie than Connery one.

"Never Say Never Again" was a bit worse, in my opinion. I know that's not an "official" Bond movie or whatever, but it was nevertheless rubbish.

Useless without pictures!

Very dramatic, I think.

I find OHMSS to be one of the best ones personally. Lazenby was okay, but I think the best performances of this movie were from the supporting characters. I think that with the great Bond movies, the supporting characters were memorable. Blofeld, Bunt, Draco, and Tracy were all memorable characters.

It's definitely the worst (or, most disappointing) out of all the Bond movies.

Nope, you gotta watch it. No exceptions.

It is the most disappointing of all the Bond movies, especially considering that it ignores OHMSS, the villain's plot makes no sense (it's one of the few movies in which I couldn't explain the villain's plot at all; something about manipulating the diamonds market for something), Las Vegas is mediocre location for a Bond movie, Tiffany Chase is one of the worst Bond girls in the series, and Connery looks bored in the movie.

And look at this comment after you're done dyegoh:

When Bond sees Blofeld later in the movie, he acts as if the worst thing Blofeld did was give him a parking ticket.

And strangely, I'm in the mood to watch Live and Let Die, the movie after DAF.

What do you guys think of LALD?

Don't forget that excellent helicopter shot of Bond on the roof fighting off the agents in YOLT.

Amazing. I love that shot so much. It's one of my favorite shots in the series too. When i saw that shot, it had shown to me how much the Bond series had grown since Dr. No.

Here's the shot guys.

ah man disapointing they are dropping that castle as a location.

Blofeld isn't manipulating the diamonds market. He actually wants the diamonds for a giant laser satellite that will destroy the world's nuclear weapons, and then, since he'll own the only nuclear weapons in the world, everyone will be at his mercy. Not joking.

Connery looks older and less fit in there than in Never Say Never Again. The difference between his look in there and in Dr No is so dramatic, that it's almost like Elvis in the 50s and early 60s compared to Elvis in the 70s.

And strangely, I'm in the mood to watch Live and Let Die, the movie after DAF.

Let's just say that you have to be in the mood for LALD. After the Connery films, it's quite a change, especially that film with its voodoo, blaxploitation etc. It almost seems like a different genre of film.

Ok, I will, thank you :)
I'm about to see DAF but I forgot to say 2 things: that I laugh every time I see the first gunbarrel scene, with the "little jump" of the guy before he shoots:

And the second one, where the guy is struggling not to fall:

Also, I really like the credits sequences. Is one of the things I look forward the most every time I see the next one. It's cool to see how technology gets more advanced as the years go by.

Ok, enough. I'm gonna see that movie!

Is just the gunbarrel sequences I was referring to. Must be a problem with YouTube.

OHMSS is one of the best Bond films but sadly with the worst Bond. Diana Rigg looked effing gorgeous though.

YOLT is essentially a kids movie. During the `60s Bondmania, the merchandisers started to target children, so this movie was the end result. They even got Roald Dahl (Willy Wonka author) to pen the script. So, it gets parodied a lot because it's the one an entire generation grew up on.

Diamonds Are Forever tonight.

Heh. Good luck with that one. :cwink:

People exaggerate about DAF. The movie is ridiculously entertaining. It has some of the funniest lines:

M: We do function in your absence, Commander.

M: Refreshing to hear that there is one subject you're not an expert on!

Mr. Kidd: I must say Miss Case seems quite attractive ...For a lady.

Plenty O'Toole: Hi, I'm Plenty.
James Bond: But of course you are.
Plenty O'Toole: Plenty O'Toole.
James Bond: Named after your father perhaps?

[Plenty O'Toole is thrown out of the window by some goons perhaps from the 10th floor, and lands in the middle of the hotel's swimming pool]
James Bond: [looking down] Exceptionally fine shot.
Slumber Inc. Attendant: I didn't know there was a pool down there.

James Bond: Weren't you a blonde when I came in?
Tiffany Case: Could be.
James Bond: I tend to notice little things like that - whether a girl is a blonde or a brunette.
Tiffany Case: Which do you prefer?
James Bond: Well, as long as the collar and cuffs match...

Tiffany Case: Why, Peter, there's much more to you than I imagined!

Practically every Bond movie has good one liners. But DAF spectacularly fumbled the ball with the main villain, who murdered the one woman Bond actually loved, and treating that storyline as nothing more than pre-credits filler. I'm not saying DAF needs to be some dark humorless affair, but Jesus, let's have a little more gravitas with this guy than space lasers, for God's sake.

DAF has IMO one of the best fights filmed for a Bond movie, the CQC encounter in the elevator is just great. Interestingly if you see the special features of the DVD the actors filmed the scene themselves, since the shots were very close they were not able to use stunts.
