It still doesn't touch a hair on "You Know My Name".
It still doesn't touch a hair on "You Know My Name".
One of the best Bond songs ever in my opinion. I view it as the anthem for the Craig Bond. Just as I view Tom Jones' 'Thunderball as Connery's anthem, and Carly Simon's 'Nobody Does it Better' as Moore's anthem. If that makes sense. It still doesn't touch a hair on "You Know My Name".
Nevermind, they did help make the foundations.
But I will admit in terms of the modern action hero, yeah, James Bond is up there.
A lot of action movies owe itself to Goldfinger which did raise the bar for all eventual action movies.
"We have All the Time in the World" is not a Bond main theme song. The main theme song for OHMSS is Barry's OHMSS instrumental. It is also the best by miles.
I know.
Can I still like it, please?
Off the top of my head my favorite 5.
1. OHMSS
2. You Know My Name
3. You Only Live Twice (Don't like the movie too much, but love the song)
4. Thunderball
5. Goldfinger/Goldeneye
Yeah, but it was written especially for the movie wasn't it? I mean it's still a theme from the film, just not the main title theme. More like the love theme.
"Bolded for truth".
I'm not really into Thunderball's theme though. I'd swap that with A view to a kill's.
I actually like the Jack White/Alicia Keys "Another Way to Die," but yeah, the solo Keys version is better. Either way, "You Know My Name" is indeed excellent. I didn't know how I felt about it the very first time I heard it, which was before seeing the movie, but once I did see the movie, it clicked, and I just fell hard for it.
When I think Bond themes I think of the main title tracks, which is what I thought we were talking about. So just a small misunderstanding on my part. But, as we are talking about the others themes used in the films as well, I really like Vesper's. Very beautiful, yet understated.
Barry's OHMSS score is probably his best.
James Bond was an influence on Indiana Jones. The first real action heroes in Hollywood cinema were the cowboys I believe. John Wayne in Stagecoach is a great example.
If we are talking "modern action heroes" I would say they are far more derivative of Indy and John Mcclane. Those that take a true beating but keep on coming. Even present day Bond is far more like them.
I like The Living Daylights. Nothing wrong with a little cheesey 80s music t:"The Living Daylights" is underrated. Not up there with "Goldfinger" or "Nobody Does It Better," but I like it.
I'd rather hear Bat For Lashes do a Bond themeCome to think of it, great as Adele may be, I think I'd rather hear Florence and the Machine do a Bond theme... I'm just loving everything I hear from her these days.
Connery - "From Russia With Love" by Matt Munro
Moore - "For Your Eyes Only" by Sheena Easton (My favorite Bond theme song of all time)
Dalton - "License To Kill" by Gladys Knight
Brosnan - "Tomorrow Never Dies" by Sheryl Crow
Craig - "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell
I love them both, but of the two, I really feel like Adele's voice is just tailor-made for a Bond theme.Come to think of it, great as Adele may be, I think I'd rather hear Florence and the Machine do a Bond theme... I'm just loving everything I hear from her these days.
