There is such unabashed hatred for this Joker looks....it's quite ridiculous, but I honestly think that people are projecting their personal "real world" preferences when it comes to this characters; do you hate tattoos, bling, all of that gangstah **** on people in the real world?? I really cringe at people like that in the real world, but maybe that's the point with this Joker; you're not supposed to like his style, you're supposed to be put off by it....just a thought.

Personally, I LOVE his look, the Joker is my favorite fictional character, among many reasons, because there is no "the Joker would never do this" thing with him, nothing is off-limits; the character has been reinvented and reinterpreted so many times, that I actually wanted to see something new with the character and we got it.

I've seen people going over and over again with the same thing "get rid of the tattoos and the grill, bring back the purple suit!!", and I REALLY hope they stick to this look (partially to piss off those people :D )

Thing is, conceptually, the Joker's look is all about being flashy and flamboyant, a purple suit might have been quite flamboyant in 1940, but nowadays is pretty tame (hell, I wore a purple suit for my wedding), Joker has to be the "loudest" guy around, and it doesn't get any "louder" than his current look.

After seeing the extended cut, I can confirm that I absolutely love Leto's Joker, and that the editing totally destroyed his performance; I think he was going for a ver "spastic" performance, with sudden changes in speed and body language and cadence; sadly, to be able to appreciate this things, you need to be able to have the camera on him for more than a few seconds at the time, you need to be able to see him go through all of this emotional waves....

I think if the character had been written or promoted as a cameo (as it turned out being) instead of a main character, it would have come more as a tease of what's the come instead of people being disappointed in how little of him we got (which I'm sure influences people's feelings about him to some extend).

I really hope he comes back for The Batman, because the Joker really shines when interacting with Bats and we got none of that yet.

Yeah, basically when that club scene started I felt really awkward and could only see Carrey in my head. I don't know... honestly I just won't see Skwad ever again.

I saw some horrid fusion of Carrey and Johnny Depp with occasional attempts at Heath's Joker voice thrown in for good measure.

Agreed. Leto give terrible performance and his Joker so bad and one dimensional character. Worst Joker. They need to make lots of changes to make him good version.

Yeah, using skwad instead of squad is just as bad as Leto's reimagining if Joker.

That really bad then lol.

Ayer: "Jared, which of these tats do you want?"
Jared: "All of them."

Doubt it. Ayer forced it on everyone. Even Enchantress has tats lol. I wouldn't be surprised if Batman did had Ayer got the first on him

Looking back, he does indeed have that full grill in the helicopter scene, and also in the final scene.

That just confirmed how much better Ledger is to me, even with that silly editing.

So because I don't enjoy a version of the Joker that is covered in tattoos, jewelry and has grills must mean that I hate all people who have those things in real life.

Alrighty

I'm sorry, wasn't it clear that i'm presenting a "maybe" scenario?? As in "maybe this is the reason why...", look, everybody is free of liking and disliking whatever they do for whatever reason they do, so I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear, and it's not about the tattoos or any specific point (I myself have tattoos and love'em), but more like the "type" in which the character's look was inspired; if I'm not mistaken I remember someone (maybe Ayer) saying that the "mexican cartel gangster" was the look they were going for??

Jared himself admitted that he took to Instagram in looking at the profiles of Mexican Cartel members.

What are people here's favourite Joker look? My personal favourite is his look in the story Endgame.

I absolutely ADORE Endgame :ilv:

Funny enough, I think one of the reasons I bought Endgame was because when at the comic book store, just looking around trying to decide what to buy I looked at the cover with the Joker sitting on the corpses throne with his head held back and laughing and I immediatly heard Leto's laugh in my head, true story; and when reading it, I felt like a connection between Endgame's and Leto's Joker and when I watched the movie (I read Endgame before it) his Joker totally reminded me of that one, but maybe it's just me.

Kudos, sir. Couldn't agree more. Except on the jewelry (or at least the chain(s). :woot:

Also, I still can't say I see a bad performance (I see horrible editing) but I can agree with the inconsistency in the make-up. Even in the extended scene of Harley chasing down the Joker. Look at how much whiter his tone is in the car compared to once he gets out.

They need to actually whiten his skin up all the way...like they did for Cesar and Jack. Hell, even Heath's face-paint was lighter than the tone they with for Leto. I think they got it 100% right for the rooftop/helicopter scene and for the very last scene where Harley gets broken out but everywhere else it's far too light.

Sometimes his skin tone looked too...normal.

Agree on the editing, although I did feel that the movie flows a little better with the extended cut; actually it made me appreciate it much better (despite still being the movie I like the least in the DCEU).

And yeah, the skin tone inconsistency, that was annoying AF, I actually liked either tone, ya know? Either albino-like or chalk white, just stick to one of them!! There were even scenes where his hands and face had different tones, IIRC.

But don't you dare take away my Joker chains!!! :cmad:

I took that as a nod to The Dark Knight Returns. He adds makeup when he "dressed all up for Harley"

Oh god, could you imagine if Ayer was the one to bring this Batman to life?

Nah, Superman's getting "Kal of Krypton" & "Lara" tatted. :D

Oh and Lois' name too.

I didn't like Leto's Joker at all, but did anyone think he was kind of hot?
